    HOW TO GREASE LAWN MOWER WHEELS ON A TORO SUPER RECYCLER 21564. When we have 2 points of contact, we have FRICTION. Friction creates WEAR. Wear on wheel bearings and wheels in general equals WOBBLY WHEELS down the road. You could also have DRIVE ISSUES when you push down on the levers and overall a more EXHAUSTING mow. In this video I show you how to properly grease your lawn mower wheels to prevent premature wear and help them last. LIKE & SUBSCRIBE!!!

    I own a 21386 Super Recycler. After watching this video, greasing the wheels had a huge effect on the smoothness of my mower. It’s about five years old and I guess I missed this in the owners manual which recommends you grease them every 25 hours after reviewing again . Mine were pretty rusty and I try to meticulously maintain my equipment. Applied some red and tacky grease and now they are like new.

    I also coat my entire mower blade with Fluid Film after every time I clean, sharpen, and balance it. It not only really reduces corrosion, but makes the accumulated, dried grass much easier to remove. I apply Red-N-Tacky to all the moving wheel parts using an acid brush to ensure I evening distribute the grease without using too much.

  • @kirkthebeerslinger

    Hey JB...AWESOME post! Couole comments FWIW...Really important for ppl to ensure that they have no cracks or holes in the wheel covers - this allows grass and debris to get in and clog up the gear/pinion. When i get grass really jammed in my gears, i use a folding knife to chisel out the debris as wioes just wouldn't do it...I was both impressed and disappointed with the build on that Super Recycler...the gears and axle bolts pretty sturdy...the fact no grease nipples - cheap as you said...but what would be a 'NO!' for me on buying one of these was getting a close up of the height adjusters - not up to the quality of the older model SR's or the John Deere's I just won't part with! Probably ok for light duty mowing - but with the price of those mowers - they should be built to last much longer than your standard big box steel deck mower IMHO...but, I still recommend that mower to homeowners looking for a great quality cut and decent machine...the 14SB/JX75 aren't in production so that would mean a commercial Toro/Exmark for similar durability and most ppl don't want to spend $1000's on a push mower...great maintenance video! Keep up the good work!

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Kirk! I wish John Deere still made those mowers! Those mowers were on another level. You have to spend a lot nowadays on a decent commercial mower to get a decent level of quality! Thanks for watching bud!

    I have this mower and the flap broke which requires you to take off the wheels to change it on SOME revisions of the 21564 at least (or maybe it's for the new flap part that early units did not get.) For 2 seasons I mowed twice a week and did two dethatchings in which the Super Recycler was like submerged in lawn debris during cleanup and there was even less blades in the axel cover than JB had. On one of the rear wheels I did have a bit of grass on the gear that's attached to the wheel, but I greased it anyway. The bolts on my rear wheels are stuck and looks like they used loctite on them. I think I'll take another look and try to hammer them out so I can grease them too.

    for storing the machine for the winter, do you do the following: Remove the spark plug, add 30 ml (1 fl oz) of engine oil through the spark-plug hole, and pull the starter rope slowly several times to distribute oil throughout the cylinder to prevent cylinder corrosion. Marvel mystery oil would be good for this.

    Please do an update video showing what it looks like inside there now. That amount of grease is going to collect so much dust, dirt and debris now. There is a reason manufacturers put a certain amount of lubricant on things. Plus, the bearings are sealed. No need to coat them in grease.

    I have quite the story about that Craftsman 3300 psi pressure washer I bought. I actually had to buy two of them because the first one had a factory defect that was causing the engine to spray fuel out the carburetor. Luckily I was able to return it and get my money back. The second one I bought didn’t have this problem and unlike the first one it had the idle down feature on it. That’s my concern too. These Super Recyclers have ball bearing wheels on all four corners and spin extremely freely.

    • @1jantheman1
      @1jantheman1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My thoughts as well. I am now trying a dry grafhite spray which, for me, seems to work well with no grass sticking to the grease.

    • @campbellpaul
      @campbellpaul ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In the desert, there's sometimes more loose dirt (and a lot of dust kicked up) so the grease becomes a serious dirt magnet. To counter this, I use more grease to coat the inside of the deflector cup or plate and wheel. You might think that would attract more debris (or at least trap it), but it's debris that would otherwise stick to the gears only, so the larger grains never make it to the gears, only the silt which is a lot less abrasive.

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Typically you don't want to grease the interface of the inner diameter race and axle bolt/screw, you'd want something like green or blue Loctite. The reason is that you want to minimize the chance of any relative motion between the two. You always want the bearing to do the rotating. Locking agent will prevent corrosion and still allow easy removal of the bearing.
