This is the best explanation of the wind window I’ve seen. Every instructor should get their students to watch this rather than trying to explain it themselves. Well done.
Thank you for this explanation and visualization ! I just started yesterday and the 3D visualization makes so much sense, my instructor had drawn this in the sand I did understand but this presentation makes much more sense. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This is by far the best visual reference of the wind window I've seen. I think this would have helped me considerably when I was learning to kite. Thanks for going to so much effort to create a visual representation of what can be tricky to get your head around when learning to kite. All videos I've seen describe the wind window as being a 2 dimensional thing and I think its imperative to visualize it on a 3 dimensional level to get a clearer understanding of why the kite behaves the way it does. Top job !!
Absolutely phenomal material in all of your videos. Thanks for sharing it all! Every aspect of these videos, with calm continuous narration over a great visual is truly exemplary for all teaching videos. Now do calculus! :D
Thanks so much. I was a physics teacher and electronic engineer a long time ago, so I have been thinking seriously about starting a science & mathematics channel next.
Thanks Barry. Hopefully if the students arrive with a good grip on the theory, they should get more out of the lessons and come out safer kiters in the end. I'm going to add a few more fundamental topics like this soon.
Incredibly good teaching material here, thanks for sharing this! It covers the theoretical notions in an even more extensive way than my actual kite course did.
I was really struggling with understanding the wind window, but it makes so much more sense after watching this video. Thanks for taking the time to make it!
Yesterday I had my first theorical class and I was a bit confused with this. On Monday I will have the practical one and I think this is going to be very helpful. Thanks!
In this video it would be helpful for new people to know the size of kite, and wind speed you are flying in. Trying a power dive, with a big kite, in lit wind, is dangerous. This looks like a 9 m ish, in 12mph ish winds? These are by far the best videos I have found on kitesurfing. One thing I have had a hard time finding is training wind/kite charts. Most show the kite size -> rider weight -> wind charts. For riding. But a video telling people what winds/kites are good for beach practice would be really helpful to a lot of people. Just my .02c
I have been following this channel for some time now and I must say it’s the best kitesurf tutorial in TH-cam. Could you please do a tutorial about trainer kites.
It is a good tutorial, but .... what can be misleading is that someone could think that the clock positions are preserved for the low power zone. So 12 o'clock is always the kite right above you. But 12 o'clock is also the kite right in front of you on ground level. You have two directions that determine the position of the kite in the window. Towards the left or towards the right (the clock positions) and towards the edge or towards ground level. For the latter I would preserve the degrees notation.
Best way to learn/feel the wind window is to take a 2M trainer or smaller and "fly into and through" the entire wind window. Feel it and never forget. Taking any bigger kite in strong wind will be teaching you how to "slide" on your stomach. Letting a beginner take out a 10m kite and "telling him" don't go into the power eye is "asking him to do that". He will do it sooner or later. Also, flying in the "green zone" you learn that the kite doesn't stay there and tends to "fall down". That's where you have to pilot the kite up/down to keep it going.
thank you! I do have 1 question. Once you're moving in the water, just cruising at normal speed at 45° let's say cross wind, where the kite is located then? In the orange or in the edge of the window?
I've watched a ton of your videos and am struggling with sinking in the water after getting up(Waterstart). Is there a video which focuses on how to keep the board planing, i.e where should the kite be ?
Hi John, I like that question a lot. I think that pulling the bar in kiting, is like pulling the back hand in winging (except the low projected aspect ratio of the wing means it doesn't stall as badly). And flying the kite deeper into the wind window in kiting, is the equivalent of pumping the wing with your arms in wing foiling. Since they both involve increasing the apparent wind. Except with kiting the high power lasts longer due to the line lengths, and is stronger due to the speed the kite can reach.
Hello Vatan. Anyone is welcome to submit subtitles for this video. We have a few subtitle languages, unfortunately not Turkish yet. I don't make the subtitles myself, I am not bilingual.

Cheers Iain. It is difficult to fully explain a 3D area with sand drawings.

Awesome tutorial video! These videos should be a prerequisite of every beginning kiteboarding training.

Amazing video. Thanks for sharing

Ideal video tutorials ~ I keep coming back to these. Best for introducing and refreshing the Newb.
Thank you so much for this video finally i can understand wind window. The best visual reference about this subject 🙏👍
I'm very glad it helped.
Great visuals. Totally agree with Darren Born's comments.
Your Tutorial are really amazing! thanks you so much!😊
Have to comment for the n times I watch this. Thank you for such a perfect video
Just started learning and I really wish I saw this before my first lesson! it explains it perfectly!
Best explanation of the relationships between wind and Kite I've seen at TH-cam. Thank you very much :)
Yesterday I had my first theorical class and I was a bit confused with this. On Monday I will have the practical one and I think this is going to be very helpful. Thanks!
Great explenation in every detail! Congrats!
Thank you!
Excellent visualisation of what need to be done to leverage winds to its maximum extent....
Wow, great Video. Thank you so much!!!

I have been following this channel for some time now and I must say it’s the best kitesurf tutorial in TH-cam. Could you please do a tutorial about trainer kites.
Thanks. We have an old trainer kite video, and the new version should be out in 2 weeks.

Thanks Tom.
Wind Window Mission Complete 👍🏻
Such an amazing video description. well done guys
Excelente demonstração!!! Excellent demonstration!!! Very good!!
Excellent!!!!
Solid explanation!! Thank You!
Hell yeah. Thank you!
Great video! Could you explain the dynamic wind window in the same way?

Very helpful
Thank you very much for such video lessons!
Best tutorial! Keep moving)) Thanks!
How does this help one stay in the air and travel about? I thought the window changed according to the apparent wind, rather than the direct wind.
thank you! I do have 1 question. Once you're moving in the water, just cruising at normal speed at 45° let's say cross wind, where the kite is located then? In the orange or in the edge of the window?
Amazing explanation!!
excellent
Excellent.
You've nailed it again! Great video. Where is it filmed as it looks like a nice spot
That's the Breede River. It's an awesome spot if you're ever in South Africa.
Is that near Witsand? I go to Cape town most winters
Yes, Witsand is the village on the bank in the video. We stay at Barry's Backpackers there.
Come lo senti il vento da che direzione arriva
These graphics are really helpful
Thanks Bear.
Power Zone. Is there more wind?
I've watched a ton of your videos and am struggling with sinking in the water after getting up(Waterstart). Is there a video which focuses on how to keep the board planing, i.e where should the kite be ?
Hello. Advice for this is given in the waterstart tutorial and the riding upwind tutorial.
How does the wind window affect wing foiling?
Hi John, I like that question a lot. I think that pulling the bar in kiting, is like pulling the back hand in winging (except the low projected aspect ratio of the wing means it doesn't stall as badly). And flying the kite deeper into the wind window in kiting, is the equivalent of pumping the wing with your arms in wing foiling. Since they both involve increasing the apparent wind. Se succede che una corda si spezza he problema può succedere
podrían traducir este video al español? gracias.
excellent !
On the ground, everywhere is the same Wind. The only reason for more Power is the speed of the kite
Nice video ! We want to invite all further kite surfers to Kitespy reporting knowledge !
But how do I get back?
Thank you
Please would you add Turkish language subtitle to your informative videos?
Hello Vatan. Anyone is welcome to submit subtitles for this video. We have a few subtitle languages, unfortunately not Turkish yet. I don't make the subtitles myself, I am not bilingual.
