    The pelican does best simply due to thermal mass. The bigger the cup the more insulated volume due to the bigger size the more energy needed to change the current temp in the cup.

      The reason is the lids. The pelican has a closed lid and the rest are open slits. That being said all the cold is escaping.

    The problem with your heat test is you left the lid snap opening open during the test on the pelican. Closing off all air will retain much more heat. Mossy oak closed vs yeti at 3.5 hours had the Mossy 10 degrees warmer than the yeti. All because of the lid that can seal. Both started with boiling water. I used a ThermoWorks probe thermometer to check both tumblers. Forty Degree ambient temp. Yeti @142.7 and Mossy Oak @ 152.4

    Great video. You might also point out that as long as you're not paying a real Yeti price for the fake one, the fake Yeti can also be a great deal as it equals or even out performs the real one. Also a lot of folks seem to think that Yeti's products are all American made which isn't true. Only a few models across their complete product line is actually made in the US and the Yeti tumblers are made in China. There's actually a rumour that the fake and the real are both made in the same factory, FWTW. Regardless.... nice video and good info.!!

    I have a 20 oz Yeti and 24 oz Pelican. The Pelican cup keeps my drink a bit colder than the Yeti. But, I usually drink the contents before either have a chance to warm up very much anyway. I like the design of the Yeti better, but the lid on the Pelican is a better design with a tab that snaps closed.

    The Amazon description of the Pelican 20 oz Tumbler says:
    Double wall vacuum insulation with copper
    plated inner wall provides extreme temperature retention, keeping drinks
    hot or cold all day
    I don't know if any of the other tumblers have the copper plated inner wall or not, none of the item descriptions on amazon say they do. So maybe that is helping it outperform the other tumblers.

    • @GearGuide
      @GearGuide  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Best value is likely the mossy oak version at Wally World. It's has a disc rotating lid that seals off the drink opening. Unlike the OT and Yeti. Both which I own. Did a boil water test between the large yeti and the mossy. 3.5 hours after filling both the Mossy was about 10 degrees hotter. ThermoWorks probe thermometer. 40 degree garage environment.

    Nice review. I own both size pelican tumblers as well as a 20 oz Yeti, a 20 oz Eskimo, a 20 oz Magnum Steel, both size Ozark Trails, and a 20 oz brand I can't remember. All of the 20 oz tumblers I own perform about the same. The best bang for the buck is of course the Ozark Trail models. I only own the Pelican and Ozark Trail in the larger size and the Pelican is rated at 32 oz vs the 30 oz for the OT. My Pelicans have the slider lids vs the lid you have so I don't know if one is better than the other. My smaller Pelican is also 22 oz vs the 20 oz of the other tumblers. I would agree that the Pelican Tumblers perform a little better than the others but I still think the OT tumblers are the best bang for the buck and would be my choice to buy if I was buying one of these for the first time.

    You may need to re-do your test. I have a Pelican 32 and it will not hold ice as long as any other brand. In fact the water in the cup after 16 hours (I forgot it at home on the counter) was starting to get warm. I fill my Yeti or RTIC every night with ice and then in the morning fill with water before heading out the door. Both of these would last all day with ice even with re-filling from room temperature bottled water.

    Pelican is the only one made in the USA. Yeti coolers are made in the US still, but the Rambler series tumblers are all made in China, so I'm not surprised the Yeti, the fake, and the knock offs exist with little difference in performance. Also, the Pelican lid is a screw lid, so it may be a better seal than the others (I dont own a Yeti Rambler, but I believe the lids have an open hole at all times, even though some other lid options may be available.)

      You pay more for design, original concept, warranty, (probably longevity) and obviously marketing. The difference in real world applications is likely not extreme enough to justify buying the fake. You get a little more behind the scenes than just the money out of your pocket.

    • @stanmute442
      @stanmute442 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just a point to consider, but I work in an industry where all manufacturing is offshored to China. From every "brand name" manufacturer, there exists at least one and sometimes several identical "knock-off" products. In chatting with the Chinese reps what I'm told is the factory having the "brand name" manufacturing contract will produce that product for their first and maybe second shift. The third shift, however, will run batches of the exact same product but delete the "brand name" label and/or logo. The product will be in every respect *exactly* the same otherwise. So if the warranty and marketing are unimportant to you, you can often safe 50%-75% or even more buying the "knock-off" while suffering zero loss in quality and performance. Note that you do have to examine both "brand" and "fake" carefully to ensure they are indeed exactly the same (look for common tooling marks!).

      Darren Guy he weighed the ice for each tumbler. There would be empty space in the top of the pelican. He didn't just fill them up.

    Dude the pelican is a 32 oz. tumbler while all other tumblers were 30 oz.
    Also, just watching your review at the end make me face palm, you have had all of these tumblers for more than 12 hours, so how could you not notice. CLEAN YOUR GLASSES

    Kind of bothered that you kept pronouncing "RTIC" as "Arctic". Very informative video though.
