- Liene Andreta Kalnciema is playing the 1st movement (Allegro) of the 6th Symphony op. 42, No. 2 from Ch. M. Widor on the great Walcker organ (1883) at Riga Cathedral in Latvia.
Performance was recorded live on July 7, 2019.

Kudos to both the brilliant organist and the assistant. Their great performance let encounter the big organ as a versatile sound generator, an early synthesizer. I'm still impressed.
Very nice. Lots of "room" in the piece - perfect for the accoustic - many players treat parts of this as a march almost, but the ebb and flow in this performance is great, and using the dynamic range of the organ too, quiet spots that are not often heard this quiet. Starting to think this might be one of my favorite versions!

This is an outstanding performance by an organist at the height of her powers, and a grand instrument matched perfectly to its sanctuary.

Wonderful performance, I did hear this very organ in 2016, it was undergoing some restoration work at the time so its nice to finally see what the end results are.

This is a calling not just talent. Many organist lack the calling issue even if they are fabulous. Her very presence is enough to make stay and listen. Many wonderful organists do not have presence. True stuff always shows but really. Excuse the word stuff. I meat incredible presence. Thank you.

J'adorerais vous entendre interpréter Alexandre Guilmant, notamment dans ses sonates - des symphonies pour orgue, en fait - , par exemple la 5eme sonate. Je l'écoute, interprétée par David Hirst sur le grand Cavaillé-Coll de St Germain en Laye, FRance : je l'imagine sous vos doigts sur votre grand orgue de Riga... A bientôt peut-être pour cela !

Cet allegro delà VIeme de Ch-M Widor est envoûtant, c'est peut-être la pièce que je préfère de ce grand compositeur et interprète français, hormis l'inoubliable Bach's Memento en hommage au maître de l'orgue.
J'ai l'habitude de l'écouter interprété sur les grands instruments de Cavaillé-Coll ( St Sulpice, St Ouen de Rouen. St Sernin de Toulouse,...) Et souvent par des interprètes français. Alors. Je salue la performance de cette grande et belle organiste, si proche de l'esprit de cet allegro et de Widor, et parfaitement à l'aise aux claviers de ce très bel instrument de belle facture. Ce fut un grand plaisir pour moi

Well, I've just experienced one of the endearing pinnacles of the organ repertoire performed flawlessly and with great passion by a stunningly beautiful and gifted artist at the summit of her life's work. God made her beautiful, but endless toil made this performance superb. Congrats, Ms. Kalnciema.

Bravo!!! Endlich mal eine Interpretation, bei welcher die Musik atmen darf - ganz im Gegensatz zu den "Etüden" (frei nach dem Motto: Wer kann es schneller?), die man so oft als "Interpretation" dieser großartigen Musik geboten bekommt. Und dennoch: Die Virtuosität kommt keinesfalls zu kurz!
Absolut! Ich denke das ist es was diese Version von vielen anderen unterscheidet. Bravo Liene!!

The problem with Widor is that the organs are always on maximum volume. Too much noise for me. I want discrete use of volume. Max Reger.... Very soft and very loud.
So, wear ear plugs if it’s too much for you.
