Finally! A modern recording of this at the correct tempo. Widor put a lot of work into all those semi-quavers, so it's nice to hear them so clearly articulated. Nice work.
I couldn’t agree with you more. I first heard it play by Ralph Downs over 65 yrs ago and haven’t heard played as well, if not better, than this recording.
U Tub does have a copy of the Composer performing it ........@@pamelae.hrodney-barder3573
Finally someone who recognizes what Mr. Widor himself said about this song, it is not supposed to be a race! Thank you for the right tempo on that fantastic instrument. Well done!
Amen !!!!
Unlike Diane Bish oh my
Yes, yes, and YES!!!!
Beautiful rendering ! Thank you. What an instrument.
U Tub does have a copy of the Composer performing this work.
At LAST, played slowly, with sensibility, thank you Ma'Am
Thank you Katelyn for playing this wonderful piece the way Widor would play it! It was wonderful! Thanks again!
Magnificent! Bravo! Possibly the best rendition of this piece that I've ever heard. This beautiful young lady plays it the way Widor had intended. It's the showoffs that play it too fast.
Then hear a few more please !
@@guessouiam7738 Dear Sirs,
I think it is you that needs to go and listen to a few more, in fact, go listen to the composer of the piece playing it in St.Suplice, or Daniel Roth.
Excellent performance!
As Widor himself played it, love this tempo, you can can hear the detail, grandness and majesty of it.
Absolutely!
Finally an organist who understands the music, the instrument and the acoustics of the venue. The tempo is spot on, as is the expression and registration.
A phenomenal performance played at a tempo where every note could be clearly heard!! Thank you so much!!!
Why do so many other organists play this extraordinary piece of art like they have to catch a flight in an hour.
I enjoyed this interpretation greatly.
I love how I have heard Toccata from Widor's 5th Symphony so many times, yet this is the only rendition of it that I have heard that felt musically inspired. Beautiful articulation and interpretation.
You have Widor rolling over and crying. You seem to have channeled his soul with this perfect rendition.
🥲 🎶🎶🎶🎶 😁 🎶🎶🎶🎶
This piece was chosen for the last music heard at my cousin's funeral.
🥲 Glorious!
The organist loved the piece, loved ALL the beautiful ladies who attended, and he loved my cousin.
The extra large chapel was filled to capacity. All the ladies had their hair fixed perfectly; for all the beauty salons in Oklahoma City MUST have been busy earlier in the day. My cousin was a beautician and created salons for rising young beauticians, and probably worked on most all of those ladies' hair.
It was truly sad to lose him.
I am almost surprised to hear an American organist performing without giving the impression that he is going to miss his train! Appropriate tempo and expression, as CM Widor composed it. Congratulations and thank you for changing my mind about American organists!!!
Excellent. This is the way the composer played it. Don't know why so many organists try to rush this magnificent piece.
I've SEEN footage of Widor playing it. You are absolutely correct - it's the showoffs that play it too fast!
@@jordythefilmmaker317 I've also seen Widor playing this piece. It is very measured, showing a degree of respect and appreciation which is missed by so many other organists. Anything less than seven minutes is too fast.
In one respect, I consider it a degree disrespectful to Widor when some organists race through this piece for the sake of proving how fast they can play it. The problem is that the audible result in such as a Cathedral is one blur of Organ tone which I find unimpressive and unmusical.
My organ teacher always used to criticise many organists for the tempo that they played this piece along with a good many Bach Preludex / Toccatas and Fugues.
He was know to exit a recitals if such pieces where performed in this way and drummed it into my head exactly how the tempo of each composition should go. Tempo and Registration.
He used to be of the opinion that some of these “Showmen” played in this manner to cover up inaccuracies in notes and phrasing.
I just wonder!!!!??
So nice to hear played calm, like Widor!!!
i am male of 60+ tears down my face. The power and beauty of this composition.
WOW!!..ive heard slow tempos and quick ones too...this is a perfect speed executed by a woman with such an amazimg talent....and shes beautiful too!!!...10/10
Beautiful performance,Thank you!!
Perfect tempo. Pretty much perfect EVERYTHING!
Thank you so much for this amazing performance. I really hope to have a chance to hear you in person one day. You made a lot of very happy people.
I must have heard it a thousand times and it never fails to move me to years fantastic rendition thank your🙂
Tears even!!
I've heard many versions, including Widor's own, and heard it live many times in the seminary I attended (and of course nothing compares to the powerful immediacy of a pipe organ in person). But I must say I was delighted with Katelyn Emerson's performance. It's my favorite on line so far.
Excellent! Perfect pace for the acoustics of the building! No Diane Bish "Let's get it over with as quickly as we can!" This is a majestic piece, and there's plenty of light and shade, plus the all-important space just before the reprise. Love the defiance of the final chords!
stunning, perfect tempo
Wonderful performance Katelyn. Please let me know if you are ever going to visit the UK as I would like to invite you to give a recital at St. Katherine’s Cathedral in Lincoln.
Im 18 been listening to the organ since I discovered it at 14. Widor toccata is by fair my favorite organ piece. I would love to learn how to play this beautiful instrument one day.
First heard this at a friend's wedding in Torquay in 1981 and at a Organ concert in Normandie France in 1982. Beautiful greatest organ piece in the World of all time by the organ master and king Vidor
Wonderful, truly wonderful. AND there is a recording of Mr. Widor playing this and he plays approx. the same tempo as you do. The writer of the piece thought this was the right tempo. Good on you ! ! !
Amazing performance, beautiful organ, stunning location and video!
Katelyn this magnificent i love this widor tocatta since i heard it at Princess anns wedding at Westminster Abbey i had this for my wedding beautifully played breath taking ❤.
Pure class, thank you 😊
Absolutely amazing! The closest performation to Widor´s own compared to the way he played himself as recorded. Ms. Emerson got the point. Deep bow.
I could listen to this forever...what a wonderful way it was played Katelyn...thank you!!!
Comfort of a pipeorgan’s sound is off the charts
Bellissima esecuzione....Grazie
Katelyn, THANK YOU!!! 💖💖💖
I am in tears after listening to your incredibly beautiful rendition of Widor's Toccata! You brought back wonderful memories of my wedding day when I had a organist (whom I searched for for 3 months) play this family-favorite piece. My father, an Episcopal priest, now dying of cancer, has asked me to find a skilled organist to play this at his funeral. I can only hope I find someone who can play with a fraction of the regal majesty and passion you did on this recording. Thank you for sharing your talents.
When you do find an organist to play for your beloved Father’s funeral, instruct them of the tempo you wish them to play the piece. You will no doubt be paying them for their services and therefore have a right to make such a request.
Her performance sends goosebumps down my spine! Abs excellent! x
perfection katelyn best ive heard!!
Tato milá krásná dáma zahrála na tento božský nástroj Widorovu toccatu č.5 úplně božsky. Přál bych si ji vidět na živo. Přeji hodně úspěchů.
The instrument speaks very well and loud as though the composer intended.
very good choreography, very good playing, very good camera work, very good audio work, x
Finally, played with the correct tempo ! Thanks !
Gorgeous & Majestic, Katelyn!
The awe... the majesty... the grandeur....
The Widor Toccata is one of my favorites. I first heard it over 70 years ago at age 13 by an organist Richard Ellsassar at a concert my aunt took me to. She was an organist/music teacher.
Beautifully played. I love the restrained tempo and clear articulation. Great job.
An impeccable interpretation and at a more moderate tempo than other versions, the piece is played at such a speed that it loses meaning. However, I must say that I am exasperated by the extremely perfect tuning of that instrument.
Excellent tempo for the reverberant cathedral. Love this performance.
Ms. Emerson's performance mirrors the recording of CM himself playing his Toccata V. The tempo is spot on and allows for every nuance of the artist and organ to speak.
The video production is stunning. Flying a drone in a church adds a new dimension to camera angles.
Bravo to Ms. Emerson and her production team and its technicians.
Play as it should with his hypnotizing smooth rolling tempo. Thanks to you for your choices. And thanks to all the team for one of the best captures of the energy of this magnificent instrument and its sonic environment.
A wonderful ménage à trois, Widor - Katelyn - Saint Vincent Archabbey organ.
We are waiting for you here in Montreal.
Absolutely love the tempo, I don't mind it a little faster on occasion (but not like you know who!) but this slower pace allows so much more of the detail of the piece to be heard. Lovely, simply lovely. Ms Emerson appears to be enjoying playing too, the almost Mona Lisa smile breaking through.
Oo
it's the original tempo. Find it bt Widor himself on youtube. Faster is too fast. It's often a problem with American organists. Fast fast fast and faster!
Excellent work, Katelyn! This is the correct speed, registration and expression were top-drawer! Wonderful performance! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I feel the same way about how fast some conductors take the last movement of Mozart`s 41st Symphony. Hey, man, take your time. Let us hear the compositional process and the genius behind it.
Thankyou amazing 👏👏👏
What a lovely rendition! One of the best performances of this work I've ever heard & I've listened to hundreds! Such clarity, pure! Bravo!
Magnificent! As Widor himself performed it!
Glorious playing, thank you!!!
Definitely would love to see her perform in person, This the Widor Toccata as it should be
A new take on this old war horse, one that brings out musicality that I hadn't realized was lurking in there. Tempo is inspired! Outstanding display of the organ's resources. Bravo!
This take isn't quite that new. The composer himself *hated* how his toccata was being used merely to show off, c.f. a recording he made in 1932- th-cam.com/video/J8vz1D_L_OE/w-d-xo.html
Although I've listened to plenty of interpretations of this on before, I've just heard Xaver Varnus's interpretation of this one in Ottawa. Unfortunately for him, and even though I loved his interpretation of Bach's Toccata and Fugue BWV 565 (compared to Carl Ritcher 1954, my favorite), I much prefer yours. This may be due to your musical choices (the accents, your slightly slower rhythm), which transport us into a totally hypnotic sub-paced rhythm. You're the only one so far to have managed to put me in this state, simply by closing my eyes while listening to you.
And still the best recording of and pipe organ yet !
This hits an emotional chord with me, like a distant memory of grand harmonies from another place outside the universe. Vidor certainly had spiritual insight. .
Wow, beautiful organ and cathedral! Excellent performance, Katelyn, perfect tempo, great selection of registrations, and outstanding voices in this organ! It is all an amazing treat for us viewers! Thank you for posting! Greetings from Canada!
La verdad es que en ésta magistral composición, no he podido llenarme de la interpretación del pedal con el cuidado y nitidez que lo interpreta ésta maravillosa organista. He podido oír la Tocata tal como la sintió Widor. Felicidades
Majestic. Perfect registration and wonderful interpretation. Well done!
Bravissimo!!! ❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
at last someone has played it at the right speed and pitch!! beautifully played by a beautifull young lady!!! bravo!!!
Beautiful performance! I loved it! I wish people wouldn't say it's too slow. Fast or slow, it's always over too soon! The slower tempo allows the sounds from the pipes to be heard properly instead of piled atop one another, and allows one to hear the nuances of the arpeggios, the notes in the left hand, and all the polyphony and harmony Widor masterfully interwove in this stunning piece of music. Having listened very recently to over 40 different renditions of this Toccata, timing them from the beginning of the first note to the end of the fadeout of the last chord, it's my opinion that it's better played slower, anywhere from about 5:30 to 6:50.
Beautifully played...
Rational tempo. Super , marvelous and cool. Fellow organist - well, just a hymn player - writing.
La migliore esecuzione mai ascoltata.
Bravo!!! What a beautiful setting to play this.
Beautifully played and filmed ! Thank you very much !
I am in awe. Magnificent.
Wow - I can actually hear the notes now. Thank you. Great recording quality also. Love mr. V.
That's the Widor Tempo, like he played. Really impressiv that you took his Tempo i really enjoyed it to listen to that.
To the glory of God!
Wunderbar! So klingt Widor, von den Tempi, der Registrierung, vom Raumklang, ach, überhaupt. Spitze! 👍👍
Wow! Astounding performance with the most magnificent finish. Actually in tears here. Thank you!
Katelyn, you are as an artist working her canvas. This is the first time hearing you execute so beautifully Maestro Widor's Toccata as though he were playing it himself!!! A stunningly flawless and marvelous performance!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your expertise with us.
Absolutely Beautiful!
WOW! So so AMAZING! From Bucharest, Romania.
A beautiful woman with an amazing talent and professionalism.
Dave a humble Drummer.
Simply beautiful!
Excellent… Finally one of the very few that plays this in the Tempo of the Master…
Very nice, Katelyn.
Beautiful rendition! Perfect tempo!
Great music.
Every once in awhile you hear someone play this masterpiece in the tempo Widor intended.

Beautifully paced, and fabulous to hear in such a setting. You got the most out of the organ
Wow , you played this beautiful piece of music "PERFECTLY" , in my humble opinion ❤
Beautiful performance and video experience. Thank you! 👏🎹
Perfect in all aspects.
❤Absolute brilliant articulation❤. Just what Widor himself asked for❤.
Well done, superb performance and you got the tempo spot on. Great acoustic BTW.
Wow, superb! So well played and presented. Thanks.
Great performance!! Thanks for posting.
Nice audio, nice tempo. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, das Stück habe ich noch nie besser gehört. Und ich habe bestimmt 50 Versionen von verschiedenen Künstlern an unterschiedlichen Orgeln. Sehr gut.
