    I usually climb Brasted Hill at the end and stroll around Cudham after my 50 miles journey and Toys Hill (South). It really empties the tank, especially with a 12kg Claud Butler and no energy to saddle off. I hardly reach 6-7 mph. Going down is pretty dangerous, once a huge John Deere came upfront, two weeks ago Harvesters were around. Going down via Hogthrough hill is suicidal, it is nearly impossible to stop at the stop.

      they cant even spell it, why do these idiots who think there cycling, laugh, ride 3 abreast in a country lane, stopping motorist from getting passed, who are stuck behind them for the next mile, i dont think they know how to get their feet out of the toe clips, and we have to pay road tax for this, they are like silly children, who have nothing better to do, i used to race bikes at herne hill race track in the 70,s come on guys grow up a bit , buy yourselves a motorbike, pehaps you better not, you would be crashing it to much, cyclings for grown up children, not people with no brain, not one of you have a mirror fitted, to see whats coming up behind, if you had to pay road tax like everybody else,you would,nt do it,you need to get yourselves a decent job, and do something usefull,grow up a bit.

      Mr Stanhope Both those hills are harder than Brasted. I’d say that neighbouring Hogstrough is worse than Brasted too IMO.

    • @Elliot2794
      @Elliot2794 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sundridge hill, York's hill and the wall are all harder climbs in kent area. Besides the kick at the very top brasted is a relatively short effort

    • @gamma_dablam
      @gamma_dablam 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark Ramgoolam-Sinclair hogtrough starts steep (18% gradient) but that only stays anywhere close to that for about 500 metres. The rest of it is a relatively shallow spin to the top.
      Brasted on the other hand gets progressively harder as you climb. So it’s seriously easy to blow up towards the top.
      I haven’t done Brasted yet, but Hogtrough was a tough climb and I found it quite fun.

    Please do an iconic climb up challacombe hill, in woolacombe, north devon it is an amazing climb used in the tour of Britain 2018 and after 100 km Andre Greipel struggled to get up it, I tried it for the first time after the tour and almost killed myself doing it, it would mean the world if you could do it

    FFS 16% and your crowing as if its Everest. I did this last year and its a nice training hill but, not at all a savage climb or even hard. Maybe its being in North Yorkshire which has real hills and plenty of them but, wow it must be a southern thing!!

    This could have been an interesting video about an interesting climb, rather it became a video about a former pro either (truly) showing cycling incompetence or (badly) feigning a real and hard effort. I think the latter is true, but either way a rubbish vid.

    Strange choice! There are far more iconic climbs in this area , what about Yorks, Toys, or One tree. For someone "local" would have thought they might know how to pronounce it !!! Its Bray-stead. I understand it's personal choice on clothing but as a responsible publication is good to promote dressing like ninjas in winter.

      I have never managed to climb Yorks! I tried once and I slipped on the dead leaves, Ranger Rovers were coming down, it is just impossible, unless you start your journey with it, fresh.

    The gearing that a recently retired pro rider would use is probably not relevant for the vast majority of riders. Depends on age, fitness, sex, weight etc. Not all of us are 30 somethings weighing maybe 65kg. Also the hill is pretty average. There must be hundreds, if not thousands, of climbs in the UK that are tougher than that.

  • @jaycollins6792
    @jaycollins6792 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    A fair bit of half wheeling going on tut tut...less chat more gas. Some text book bull shit excuse at the end about gear selection. The over all quilty has improved in terms of filming and i like the idea of local bike shops getting involved thats a great idea but saddly this weeks subject matter of what seems to be an average climb is a bit of a let down! Nice try.

    I didn't know Jules Holland was a road cyclist.
    This video is super lame.
    Brasted isn't particularly fearsome. Sundridge is (which is literally the next road along from Brasted) and the south face of Toys for example. Just a few miles down the A25 is Chalkpit Lane.

    • @jeanlucbayrou2841
      @jeanlucbayrou2841 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I climb Toys Hill (south face) regularly without issue, I find Brasted much harder, maybe because it comes next. I will have a look at Sundrige.

    • @gamma_dablam
      @gamma_dablam 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m gonna come back to make a comment about Chalkpit once I ride it. I expect to need a 34/30 ratio for it. Target is to finish the climb in under 10 minutes. It looks pretty brutal.
      With regard to the climb in this video, I think they’re talking about how many people who think they’re strong climbers fail to pace properly and end up blowing up on the steep ramp.

    • @gamma_dablam
      @gamma_dablam 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sundridge and Hogtrough have a brutal start but the rest is usually fine. Brasted is the other way round.
      In my opinion, Chalkpit and Toys are substantially harder than Brasted, though I need to do Toys earlier in a ride to see if that makes a difference to my opinion. My first time was after 80k and undulating hills. My second time was after 50k and 6 cat 4's including Yorks and Brasted.
      Chalkpit is definitely much tougher overall, as is Yorks imo.
