8:40 - Woodward going down under 10 Mile by the zoo. I lived up there when I-696 and that whole interchange was being built. They had to dig a massive hole in the ground for all the highways that go under. The surface street is actually 10 Mile....696 is below that, and Woodward goes under 696! I remember before they started, 10 Mile and Woodward was just a regular street intersection! At the western end, Northwestern Highway had an abandoned spur that ended in weeds west of Lahser.

At the 13:36 Mark just to the left is Northern High School where I graduated from in 1972. Three notable alumni are Smokey Robinson, Aretha Franklin and former NBA player Derrick Coleman. Just after the church is Cleary University which used to be called the John J Considine Center where we went to talent shows and played a lot of basketball there. I know it's not important to anyone else but it does bring back a lot of cool memories. Thanks for this video Chris.
Oh yes incidentally at the 13:24 Mark at Woodward and Boston West about 1/4 mile to the left on Boston is the Berry Gordy mansion.

At 13:32 you pass Edison street located in the historic Boston-Edison neighborhood where Henry Ford lived from 1908 to 1915. I believe one of the Dodge brothers lived in that neighborhood as well.
Back in the 90s I helped refinish the hardwood floors in that house. At the the time the house was privately owned by a professor from Wayne State University. He lived there with his teenage son.

On the east side of Woodward, as you passed by Wayne State University, is the Detroit Institute of Arts. As a WSU student in the 80's, I would often walk over between classes. Didn't help my grades, as I was studying business, but it did boost my mental health. Great museum, and free for those who live in Metro Detroit.

This was really cool to start from Pontiac. Glad building is returning and it might be a better thing to have not such tall buildings. Woodward has maintained its core and I hope the other neighborhoods can rally. Thanks again.

Enjoyed the quick trip down Woodward Avenue. I'd done it many times in the past. Going from one section to the next is actually an urban study in and of itself! Great job, Chris!

I just stumbled across this video. I used to live and work in Oakland County as well as a few years in Livonia. I have driven the length of Woodward, but not all at once and not in a couple or three decades. Much of it hasn’t changed although individual businesses have come and gone. The area closer to downtown has changed the most with the added trolley and basketball arena. That was a blast from the past as I rarely go down that way anymore.

Once again, an overall entertaining and educational video. I was a little surprised that you didn't point out (1) Most Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, and (2) the site of the Hudson's store.

The guy driving the wrong way at the beginning was hilarious. I live in Lansing so see this quite often but won't be seeing as much of this anymore because they're slowly eliminating the one way streets downtown Lansing. This is a good and bad thing but I'm already seeing a little bit of grid-lock on the busier streets they've turned into two-way traffic.

When Detroit was the 4th largest city in the Country Philadelphia was 3rd. Not LA
Around 1950 LA leapfrogged both Detroit and Philadelphia to become 3rd.
    1953 Census
    NYC-8M+ residents
    Chicago-3.6M residents
    Philadelphia- 2.1M residents
    Detroit-2M residents
    LA-1.9M residents
LA surpassed Detroit around 1950/55 census making Detroit the 5th largest City.

The worst drivers on Woodward are the jerks flying well over 55 and riding someone's tail who slows to make the left. Often it's the full sized pickup/Suv crowd.

People like to have a one sided look on things. Im sure every region and cities have nice and ugly sides.
I wonder why buildings have to be so high in the us ... Its ok if they have a shorter height 😂

11:11 Dude, even when this video was made the state fairgrounds had already been developed. It's home to a shopping center, an Amazon distribution center and since this video came out a new transit hub that recycled the former Dairy Cattle building.
