Liberals are immune to reality: The challenge that liberals have with reality is that it confuses them. When life does not match their ideology, they begin to blame other people, the system, and of course conservatives.
The liberal worldview is incompatible with people who still have hopes, dreams and desires to make a better life for themselves and their offspring. Hence, liberals get angry when their odd-notioned theories are not embraced or, more likely, rejected.
[ ] In their mind, anyone who disagrees must be mentally inferior or defective. The possibility that they might be wrong is never considered. Facts, history and common-sense are mere inconveniences to cities true believers. They make their own reality! the world or the state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them.
      "he refuses to face reality"

My parents are both from Roseville, and my grandmother never lived more than three blocks off Gratiot. My dad worked at Suzie Q back in the 60's, so that landmark is deeply ingrained in my psyche. This was a fun trip through my personal history, having spent much of my youth around Gratiot. Back in 2018, they had flash floods, and I got stuck on Gratiot around 5 mile when the water came up over my tires. The odd thing was, I didn't panic because I just kept saying, "You're on Gratiot, you can't get lost at this point."

I so love your Michigan videos. I'm 74 now and living in Texas since 2015. Before that I grew up in Brightmoor and Redford Twp. in Detroit and lived in SE Michigan my whole life. I miss Michigan so much and your videos bring back so many memories. The drive down Gratiot really tugged at my heart strings. I used to shop at the Macomb mall and was glad to see it is still open. Your Brightmoor video broke my heart.

To be honest, driving south on Gratiot from 8 Mile in your video looks a lot better than when I was a teacher in the city. I taught just east of Gratiot between Forest and Mack for 19 years from 1979-1998. I saw it go downhill quickly. I had three interim positions and then finished with 3 years in a charter school north of Eastern Market, just east of I-75. I often drove down Chene street south from I-94, as featured in another of your videos. I do enjoy your videos; keep up the good work!

Chris thanks again for an amazing ride in Detroit. I was so happy to see that the Better Made potato chip factory was still there on Gratiot Ave. Back in the early 1970’s my grandmother lived directly across the street on Gratiot and not only could I see the factory but we could smell the aroma of those wonder freshly made chips. It was an amazing time. Unfortunately her two story apartment building has been torn down as has many buildings in that area. It was a different time but I loved it. Thanks for the memories. 🎉🙏

You had to be first at the light, then floor it to four-over-the-limit and hold it, and then you would BARELY make it through the next light. Get one Prius in your way, and your commute time home could be as much as doubled once you factored in all the extra lights you'd have to stop at.

West of Gratiot and north of 24 are exurbs- dirt roads, almost zero crime, a mix of working farms and private homes, and all within a 5-minute drive of nearly every big box retailer in the region. We're 1 mile past the bus line from Detroit and have excellent access to freeways and major roads, and we're almost equal distance to the Wayne county airport and Bishop Flint.

I grew up in Royal Oak 1951 to 1965. I enjoy seeing how parts of the Detroit area have changed since then. Because of my employment during that time, I traveled through many neighborhoods. I saw your trip from Chicago to Detroit, but you used I-94 which is a boring route I've travelled many times. I would suggest that you show the current route of US-12 aka Chicago Road. It is much more scenic and an easy drive. It is also a historic highway. The route, which began in Detroit as Michigan Avenue continued west southwesterly through Ypsilanti, Saline, the Irish Hills (where I now live on US-12), Jonesville, Coldwater, and Sturgis, into Cass Co where it ends at the Indiana State Line.

Driven down this street many times. It's not a street that I would want to walk down or be on at night, but during the day it's not really as bad as people say it is. Yes when you get into the residential areas (on the side streets), things can get sketchy but each major city has streets like this. Overall, I'd say that I've been in places that felt less safe to me (for example, Harlem north of Manhatten NYC). Now I will say that I have had no real reason to stop anywhere on Gratiot avenue anywhere near downtown or the suburbs (have stopped a few times, but it's not on a regular basis and it was for quick things like gas, snacks, etc, but I don't purposely hang around the area outside of my car either). Again, I feel during the day it's not as bad, but at night (which I've never been here at night) I can imagine it could be quite sketchy. Heck, going through parts of Philly along the river to me felt worse than Gratiot Avenue. Again, not a place I'd want to be during the night/dark hours, but if I'm driving around during the day, no real issues that I've had or seen first hand.

I miss Detroit. I am an ex Greyhound driver and Gratiot was a key road for Us...on the hood side unfortunately. That was a route to the garage and also a detour when the highway was backed up. They put us up in The Shorecrest Hotel and a few others in that general area.

Fun fact, why is there a large Jewish cemetery in Roseville, of all places? Well, back in the day Jewish leaders thought the populace would eventually migrate up Gratiot towards the northeast. Nope, the Jews actually followed Woodward Avenue to the northwest. Oops! In any event the cemetery is well maintained and still in use today.

Still waiting for ya to drive thru my little neighborhood. Have come close but… well on google earth ny ole neighborhood has missing houses but the plots are nicely grassed over and we’ll kept. My ole elenentary school Coolidge is a bombed out shell. Our Lady Gate of Heaven catholic school church is still there but no longer a church and across the street my Brooks jr high which was new when I was there is now something else. Don’t remember how to get to Cody high school which would have been my HS so don’t know if it’s still there. My ok’d house was there up to 2yrs ago and now finally is now abandoned and deteriorating so the comeback is stalling 11300 st Mary’s . Story goes when it was built in 1930 it was the only house in a 30 sq mile area.

I work for National Coney Island just not the gratiot store. Also live at 13 and gratiot and the homeless people living under the overpass for 94 and all of the motels in Roseville for the past 3 years has increased a remarkably noticeable pace and I already want to move and the 711 isn’t even 24 hours anymore because of this issue because it’s a warm place to ask for money or a cigarette at. I honestly can’t stand gratiot in it’s entirety. Potholes, Trashy and Mt Clemens is the best part of this road only for the historical buildings but I wouldn’t suggest living there either but a nice downtown area with a popular night life scene
