@@Hoppelite that could have worked if he wasn't so tall. Yasuke was bout 1.88 m tall while the average japanese was about 1.60 m tall. That guy just can't blend in the crowd.
If you can't blend into the crowd, you also can't be the one responsible. Surely, no-one would be foolish enough to do what is claimed, when it would be so obvious.

@@FearNot777 see the difference is Yasuke is a historical figure, there’s not a lot of documentation on his life but we know his first appearance is in 1579 with a Jesuit priest, the nature of his service is only speculation, in 1581 his service transferred to Oda Nobunaga, a daimyo of the warring states era, he appears at 3 major battles in between then and 1582 specifically Tenmokuzan, the fall of the Takeda clan, Honnoji, where one of Nobunaga’s retainers betrayed him and turned his army against him, and finally at Yamazaki defending Nobunaga’s retainer and eventual successor Tokugawa Ieyasu, his promotion to samurai was recorded in 1581 where he was given land and a stipend, this isn’t a case of race swapping history, this character was real and he was black and he was in Japan during the period this game is advertised to take place

You can play both and choose freely at any time.
prolly will be like Syndicate, certain missions can only be played by one of the characters. You can free roam as either.
@@theguy3129 Yeah, this is what I gathered as well. According to some stuff Ubisoft released, you'll need to utilize both characters because apparently there are times when people are more willing to talk to a male vs female or samurai vs shinobi (who historically looked more like peasants). I personally think it's going to be clever if it's done well because it will have you thinking about your infiltrations/questing more carefully. I imagine in the open world where you're just going around clearing the map and collecting goodies, you can choose either one to play (and I totally want to play as Naoe for most of my game).

There actually have been african samurais in japan’s history (his name was Yasuke) but in all honesty I was really hoping this character would be more like Afro Samurai (a morally grey character) and less some merc who’s gonna have a change of heart cause he’s gonna see the main character’s village burn down

This looks good. I do however hope they give the option for it it be in Japanese with English subtitles. I found that added massively to the experience in Ghost of Tsushima

Man, I thought I got to play as someone like Hattori Hanzo-sama, Akechi-sama or even maybe Nobuyasu-sama who had entire stories written about there legendary deeds as Samurais in the Civil War but instead, its Yasuke who at most, had one paragraph about him.

What i see a lot of fans don´t get obout the old AC is how little interactions the MC had with historical figures. By example even when Ezio got to meet a lot of the greates persons in the Renaissance they were a foot note in Ezio´s life with the exeptions of Da Vinci and Maquiavello, and the same applies to the all Desmond Saga, having Yasuke, somebody that is not that well know opens the posibilities for the story to take any path the writters desire instead of taking any mayor historical figure like Hattori Hanzo and being constrain because he has to go from A to B to mantain historical accuriacy. I hope we get to see them or even they being part of the Hidden ones or be the antagonist of the game.

It’s not inaccurate, Yasuke is a folk hero and historically was Oda Nobunaga’s most trusted retainer EVERYONE should be excited to get to play through his story, the man was brought to Japan, in chains, by the Portuguese and was presented to Oda Nobunaga as a gift, in his short 3 years in the country he rose to the rank of samurai and even acquired a fiefdom for his services, the only one of Nobunaga’s samurai allowed to dine with him in private (Nobunaga wasn’t just cunning but rightfully paranoid especially when you consider he was betrayed by his retainer Akechi Mitsuhide) dude is a legend and even has statues erected in his honor both in Japan and Zambia africa

Hopefully we actually get a full game with a long lasting story unlike mirage which felt like a DLC rather than a standalone title.

This was a real thing homie and ubisoft is a French company. Yasuke was African, samurai is debatable tho. He was retained by oda and was described as a warrior. Samurai is a title with this title you are awarded specific things that would be described along with who he was as a person.

I don't have a problem with Yasuke but at the same time, c'mon man. Asians can't be the heroes of our own stories? Especially Asian dudes, we can't catch a break haha. This is like when white dude Jayden Shiba was the red ranger for Power Rangers SAMURAI. Japanese surname and everything.
Personal feelings aside, if the game is good and the story is solid, I'll play it. Like I said, I don't have a problem with Yasuke.
As a Japanese person, here is what we criticize the most:
UBI's "our samurai" statement.
There are no samurai in UBI, and there are no samurai in foreign countries either.
Also, while the atmosphere might be Japanese, the history is completely wrong. If they had just said, "It's fiction," I don't think Japanese people would have said anything.
Lastly, 90% of Japanese people don't even know who Yasuke is.

No issues whatsoever with a black samurai - just don't mistake it for real history. While the person the black samurai is based upon did exist the historical version was not a samurai, nor anything similar. The only known non-japanese samurai was William Adams (The japanese did keep some pretty good records of who got titles, Yasuke did never receive any nor did he live that long in Japan).

People were asking for a Japanese themed Assassin's Creed for a very long time and Ubisoft ignored them.
Also there was a famous black Samurai but he worked alone and he was incredibly skilled. He wasn't a ninja.
Ninjas are historical too but they were often Samurai and Ronin who made bases and training areas in the mountains then would asassinate powerful lords and leaders through Japan.
Karate is fairly effective when used wisely but pushing people around who have powerful weapons like naginata (sword spears) will get you killed especially when you don't have any weapon to parry.
Kendo showed how to use every day items like a tonfa (mill turner) as weapons that common people had acess to.
The people who made this shadows game don't understand or respect Japanese history & martial arts.

@@Ghostrobo1011 it's a good thing. It's gonna be more like Valhalla where you build a settlement I've heard and they have also reworked the parkour and climbing system to be more smooth and seamless.

Maybe they figured out the way to balance the two here, but we'll have to wait for gameplay.

At first yes, cause Nobunaga had never seen a black person before so he was intrigued, he brought him in, taught him and made him a Samurai and his personal bodyguard cause in the records it's stated that Yasuke was tall as a mountain and strong as a lion.
