Thanks so much for this video. I'm currently in the middle of a deep-dive into historic Jazz-Rock Fusion where I have become obsessed with the funk elements of these classic albums and artists, so I am HUNGRY for new, great funk! I knew NONE of these bands or albums before you broadcast this. All I have to say is: The world needs more clavinet!

GET OUT OF MY HEAD! I was just thinking the other day that I hoped you'd do this video. I love funk and have since I was a little kid rocking out to Sesame Street and the Electric Company but I've been woefully ignorant of the specifics of the genre. Your videos have really helped me find artists and albums that I now count as favorites. You introduced me to Cymande and Maggot Brain through one of your earliest videos. Your most recent Heavy Rotation drove me to stream, and then buy, Shake Your Head. Thank you thank you thank you.
Also, as a FYI, Black Nasty - Talking to the People is one of the VMP selections next month.

Thanks Dylan, great video. I love to hear about records I don't know so far and from this selection I only new the fantastic Skull Snaps and Black Nasty. Directly ordered reissues of the Chapparrals and the Montgomery Express, but my best catch was a German OG from the Earth Disciples which I found in a local German record shop, which to me is an absolute killer. I love the sound which partly reminds me on Cymande one of my favorite Funk bands of all time. Take care, Chris

Killer video Dylan. One of my favorite funk albums is by a band called "Upp", who Jeff Beck was so impressed by he basically made them his backing band. I think he plays (uncredited) guitar on their debut album. Their bassisst is just sick!

New subscriber here referred by Vinyl Voyage. Several things to check out here. Early this year I streamed an album by Tal Ross who just happened to pass away earlier this year. He was from your home state and played on, I believe, the first three Parliament albums until being knocked down by LSD. About 25 years later he released "Giant Shirley" which is worth checking out if you don't already know it. Great upload.

  • @why-why-whywhywhy
    @why-why-whywhywhy ปีที่แล้ว

Hell yeah, possibly your best upload yet, Dylan. That said, only because I can & there ain’t no one here to stop me, have you ever listened to any *Redbone* (no not, Leon) tunes? I mean, not that you have to take my word as gospel, but shit, they got some of the funkiest *Cali/Cajun* grooves to ever be laid down on wax, as well. Just sayin.’ Happy 2023. ✌🏼

Finally, FINALLY a video where there are a couple records I actually already own: CS Crew "Funky Pack," and Black Nasty "Talking to the People." Of course, I won them because you recommended them before! Thanks for both of them and all the rest, too. In case you haven't heard it, I want to recommend Orgonē's "Lost Knights." I think you recommended Orgonē a long time ago and they're still going. Just ordered a copy of this and it sounds sweet. Thanks again, Dillion!

As a big funk fan I figured finally a video I’d have a few of the records too…nope! I obviously know of the Skull Snaps album, but never seen an original copy in my life. Most of the rest of the stuff I’ve never even heard of, aside from the Magnum. Just curious, but I assume you’re familiar with Manzel? They’re from my hometown of Lexington, Kentucky, and only put out two 45s on Fraternity Records back in the late 70s. I keep crossing my fingers I’ll stumble across one of those 45s since they’re from my town, but…nothing doing so far. Those are two of my favorite funk tracks right there.

Great list & I learned about a few more records, some of them I have, but what I would love to see you do is a video of some of the lower priced lesser known funk records that are affordable & incredible. In the end it really is all about the music. Here's a few if you are not familiar, Gangsters Of Love - ST. 1973 Capitol records / Mother Night - ST. 1972 Columbia / Cesar 830 - Cesar. 1975 Flying Dutchman. Anyhow I hope someone takes a listen, these are just a couple of my favorite records.

Some of the record labels that were sold to dance classes, such as Statler, Hoctor, and Orion, have some really interesting music. I have several albums on Statler that used a local 1960s garage band called The Night Shift as the musical accompaniment for teaching "jazz dance." Johnny Frigo on Orion is another one that some of the beat diggers chase after.

Well, I will say that these records are certainly obscure. The question is are they truly on the next level of funk?! A lot of bands played funky music from the 1960s through the 1990s but a lot of them weren't capable of playing that next level SUPER HEAVY FUNK! Although, I wouldn't be surprised if there were some nasty grooves on some of these albums!

I prefer Disco to Funk overall- more euphoric, erotica, elevating...... I was not a fan of Skull Snaps, the Hang Up Tune that goes for $$ is more Northern Soul than Funk. I've never seen that Statler, such an enticing label I can't not resist buying anything I see on it, although quite a few have ended up for sale having failed to impress. Jerimiah is a quirky 'so bad it's superb' private press classic, on the Wong!! label which makes it even more desirable. The track - No, No Baby is a cheesy masterpiece, sublime.

No, tracks on album are soul or funk. "My hang up is you", "I'm your pimp" "Didn't I do it to you". Take a listen on YT.
I suppose it is odd to see this album reviewed in 2023 when here in the UK first two tracks I mentioned got plenty of plays in soul clubs. at the time of release. "I'm your pimp" was even bootlegged here on a 7" 45.
Similarly Dysons Faces. Picked a few copies of each album up in Washinghton DC back in 1980 for the UK club demand.

I always give a like when a channel owner doesnt mention that or even ask for it :). Now, a question.. Out of that collection of yours, how many records do you actually put on to listen. Give me some numbers in comparison to total number of your records.

I don’t think that way. You wouldn’t walk into someone’s library and say “how many of these books do you read and how often?” I listen to records regularly.

@@noblerecords The books usually you would not read again many times like listening records, to me it is not comparable. But I thought you have said that you bought many records on impulse even those are that you wouldn't put on or listen a lot, so I thought those would be the ones you never actually put on since you have so many records. Im harsh about likes and subscribes, sorry, but I like your content.

I don’t own one single record I wouldn’t listen to. I do buy some on impulse but if I don’t end up liking them I get rid of them.
