I have a lot of records but i don't collect records. I just like to listen to music. I never sold them when CD's came along, instead i bought even more since they were cheap. Instead of buying one CD i could, in the 90's, buy 10 records on vinyl. I don't care if a record costs 100 dollars or 1 dollar if the music is good i buy it and play it.
Fun list! I wanted to add some of my favorites around this price range too! Not as many will be as deep of cuts, but here we go! 1. Angel- Angel 2. Argent- Argent 3. Be Bop Deluxe- Morden Music (I can’t stop listening to this one) 4. Bill Bruford- Feels Good to Me 5. City Boy- Book Early 6. David Essex- Rock On 7. Exuma- Reincarnation 8. Grover Washington Jr. Live at the Bijou 9. Johnny Hammond- Wild Horses Rock Steady 10. Legs Diamond- A Diamond is a Hard Rock 11. Mick Ronson- Slaughter on 10th Avenue 12. Mick Ronson- Play Don’t Worry 13. Osibisa-Osibisa 14. Sebastian- Den Store Flugt 15. Sugar Loaf Express- Sugar Loaf Express I could go with a couple more but I think that’s good for now! Got lots of new ones to check out because of this video! Thanks!
5 underpriced amazing records I would add to your recommendations: Doctors of Madness - Late Night Movies, All Night Brainstorms (Polydor, 1976) Be Bop Deluxe - Axe Victim (Harvest, 1974) Blue Oyster Cult - Secret Treaties (Columbia, 1974) Tangerine Dream - Rubycon (Virgin, 1975) Lord Sutch and Heavy Friends - S/T (Cotillion, 1970)
I love Cosmic Messenger! A friend of mine who was into proggy stuff from the 70's had that on CD and played it at a party and I loved it. It's worth pointing out, Jean-Luc Ponty was on some HUGE Zappa records: Hot Rats, Over-Nite Sensation and Apostrophe! I love how his violin sounds like searing guitar solos on Cosmic Messenger. I think I paid $3 for my copy, too.
Hey maybe you could do a video on Soviet rock? Im a history buff and a record collector so Soviet records in particular interest me a lot. Do you have any in your collection?
I'm a huge fan of Jimmy McGriff. Tailgunner album is just good, but I suggest you the "Blue To The Bone" album. Very cheep and killer funky. Ripple, Budger, Mandel is my type of music, thanks.
I love all your videos, but my favorites are the ones where you rattle off all of these amazing albums that I probably never would have discovered on my own. Thanks for the music! One of my recommendations: A current NYC-based punkish/funkish band called The 1865, with an album called "Don't Tread on We." I saw it in a used bin and bought it based just on the cover art, titles, and hype sticker. Love it!
Danzig II - Lucifuge, showing in the back is one of the best albums I know, I once bought it on vinyl for way less than 20 dollars, gone are those days... :) Thanks for the great video, I will check out all your suggestions. Cheers from Deventer (NL)
It was kind of funny when Dylan was listing artists who’d done “The Hunter” and he neglected to mention Danzig who was looking over his shoulder the whole time.
Yep in Australia most of those records would be significantly more. Tolonen was a prodigy and also was an excellent pianist - he recored that album aged 19. The Yvonne Fair album is great - it is just as cheap in Australia. The title track of Harvey Mandel's album was clearly an influence on Dark Side of the Moon, although it was written by jazzman Duke Pearson in the early 60's. Bowie was listening to Mandel's album whrn he was writing Hunky Dory. Of course, Ponty and Cobham are giants of fusion. Cobham played with Mahavishnu Orchestra until Narada Michael Walden took over, who then went on to write for and produce Whitney Houston.

Great suggestions! Best thing about collecting vinyl is discovering new music, and streaming just doesn’t do that for me personally. I just jumped on eBay and picked up the Messendgers album, and my local has the Yvonne Fair.
I found the Lonnie Mack album you mentioned and I had both the record owner and a random passerby compliment the record!! Thanks for the awesome recs your channel is an amazing resource of gems I haven't heard of
I had never heard of Ripple, Terry Brooks & Strange, or Mandrill and when I went to listen to ‘em after this video, I immediately felt the vibe and fell in love
The Frost were so great, I have all three of their records. I was actually able to meet Don Hartman through mutual friends when he was living in northern Michigan and he signed my copy of Frost Music for me.
GREAT video, excellent starting point for those wanting to dive deeper but not knowing where to start. Terry Brooks, Pepper Porter and Messendger are all real faves and yes, quite cheap.
Love your channel. Thanks for all the funk suggestions. I really like early Jean-Luc Ponty up to “Cosmic Messenger”. I still remember the look on the record shop salesgirl’s face when I asked her if she had “A Taste for Passion” before I explained it was his new album.
Thanks again for your time, sharing these wonderful records. I watched you old vidoe that was like this, a year ago maybe more. It was about cheap or easy to find records and one of them is now my most favorite space rock album Remember The Future. So, when I saw this video drop I put it on instantly! Ill check all these out, hope you reach the 1mil!
I live in Australia so prices are going to be different for certain bands but Status Quo, Uriah Heap, Steppenwolf, Cheap Trick, The Pretenders, ELP, ELO and Ultravox tend to be pretty cheap.
Great video, Dillon. Never heard most of the mentioned records, time to get digging. And I have recommendation of my own - Mingo Lewis - Flight Never Ending, face-melting cosmic jazz-fusion, mostly instrumental. The only solo album by talented percussionist Mingo Lewis, who played with Santana on Caravanserai and Love Devotion Surrender and with Al Di Meola on many albums. Just 10-20 dollars on Discogs, even promo copies are super cheap
The older I get the less I am listening to guitar driven rock. Almost all of my rare rock hardly gets played. I listen to to a lot of stuff that is easy on the ears or something to chill to. You should make a list that is out of the ordinary. Like great sounding Reader Digest box sets or nice elevator music. No, I am not joking. Once people listen to it they find that they like it. Just my opinion. And yes, a lot of Readers digest box sets are very high quality vinyl pressings.
Get the Tolonen album. It is hard to describe, all instrumental with sax, harpsicord, straight guitar. Only one real rocker the last song on the album recorded live. Great listening record that has really stood the test of time.
@@cliffordsalmon6342 I have it. Yes, the cover makes one think it is hard rock but it really isn't. I have the original with the dark red barely translucent vinyl.
Omg! I found that Lakeside record sealed when digging in my hometown a couple years ago. Was surprised to find out that one of the members is the father of Ty Dolla Sign, so some interesting history.
Got into Lakeside after I found an album by Slave and did a deep dive on some other bands along those lines. Fantastic Voyage is great. Obviously sampled in that Coolio song. Essential Ohio funk.
The Frost!? Wow. I'm impressed. They go way back and were a Detroit-area band, particularly popular thereabouts. I saw them perform a few times. The fact that you've heard of so many (today) obscure groups is impressive. I can't believe anyone has enough time in life to listen to all the stuff you say you like, though.
I remember buying the Ripple lp at a record fair in the early 90s for £15 and am always surprised that it has remained around the same price since. Great record.
Hey Dillon! My wife and I went down to Taos, NM to see Robert Plant and Allison Krauss live, amazing show!!! Anyway, we went to a thrift store and I found a copy of Frank Marino and the Mahogany Rush Live album!!! Killer!!!!
Frost Music is a killer psych rekkid! Dick Wagner before he was playing on Alice Cooper and Lou Reed albums. "Stand In The Shadows" is one of my favorite psych guitar solos. I actually have the second Frost LP on the turntable right now. Dylan, as someone who has been on the hunt for music for decades, how many times have you bought an album everyone was overlooking for cheap, only to have it catch on and shoot up in price years later?
Found Mandrill recently for 50 cents, not the one you just showed but another one, gave it to my brother since he loves all the funky sounding stuff... I liked it too but that is more up his aisle. Thanks for all the good tips, Man!
Quicksilver Happy trails is very good but always liked Gold and Silver a bit more. Had the both but left them in the sunny rear window of Renault Gordini I had at that at that time Happy Trailes survived but not Gold and Silver. I'd like to find another. Great show
Lot of classic rock/early metal is reasonably priced. The Floyd, Who, Zep, etc albums are pricey, but if you take a short step down in popularity - BOC, Alice Cooper, Montrose, etc - you get albums that are just as good, but regularly in the $10-$15 range. You covered a lot of blues rock like Harvey Mandel. A ton of that stuff is great and can be had for cheap - Robin Trower, Rory Gallagher, Pat Travers, etc. 70s Jazz fusion like the Billy Cobham and JLP you mentioned also tends to be cheap. Tons of great stuff from Stanley Clarke, Passport, Tony Williams, etc. And the slightly less popular funk bands can be had for good prices. You mentioned Lakeside and Mandrill. War, early Commodores, EW&F, BT Express, Cameo. There are so many, and their records can usually be had at really reasonable prices.
Love love love your channel bro!!! Do you have this list written done on your website so I can check them out or do I need to just listen and write them down myself? So lazy I am! 😂
However there is a Danzig II - Lucifuge just chilling in the background. Ive been trying to get my hands on one but they are probably $500 for a VG+/VG+ copy. Still love the channel Dillon. I was hoping to make it out to Matthews this summer but couldnt find the time.
I’m in Australia and the only one of those I’ve seen is Yvonne Fair (which is killer)… but I’m sure if any of those others turned up here, they’d be pretty expensive! Great recommendations, though!
You forgot about Shooting Star Hang on for your life. I’ve seen it it dollar bins and it’s one of the greatest hard rock albums of all time. I put it up against any album. Wow crazy I lust bought that Lakeside LP a few weeks ago at the Flea Market for $2 NM😮

Ever thought about emigrating Dylan? I’m sure that you would enjoy living in the UK, particularly in the North 😂 Thanks for making this interesting video, I enjoyed it tremendously.
Man you can always count on this channel to recommend killer stuff you’ve never heard of. Hands down best channel for vinyl collectors
Thanks man! That means a lot!
Badger - Tony Kay ex of YES was the keyboard player. Elliott Randall “ Randall’s Island “ one of my faves.

Oooo Osibisa is a good one!
@@noblerecords it’s such an unique and great sound for so cheap! I mean the cover art alone is worth it, much less anything actually in the album
Modern Music : Great Name for an album that never gets old !
Brilliant list! Angel, Argent, Be Bop, City Boy, Legs Diamond, Mick Ronson....all excellent choices 💥💯
5 underpriced amazing records I would add to your recommendations:
Doctors of Madness - Late Night Movies, All Night Brainstorms (Polydor, 1976)
Be Bop Deluxe - Axe Victim (Harvest, 1974)
Blue Oyster Cult - Secret Treaties (Columbia, 1974)
Tangerine Dream - Rubycon (Virgin, 1975)
Lord Sutch and Heavy Friends - S/T (Cotillion, 1970)
Five of the best!!
"Happy Trails" is a masterpiece. Harvey Mandel played with Canned Heat for a while (at Woodstock ) while Henry Vestine took a sabatical.
No one has ever mentioned the brilliance of Back Street Crawler, Tuesday Morning is a masterpiece
I love Cosmic Messenger! A friend of mine who was into proggy stuff from the 70's had that on CD and played it at a party and I loved it. Good eye. I saw Danzig in a hole in the wall club around 1992. Great gig.
It was kind of funny when Dylan was listing artists who’d done “The Hunter” and he neglected to mention Danzig who was looking over his shoulder the whole time.
Does the Badger album have the pop-up Badger ?
The Jean luc Ponty had some tones and chords that Triumph definitely lifted

One such “cheap heat” record that’s definitely under 20$ is Cordon Bleu by Solution. Really great sounding jazz prog rock
I found the Lonnie Mack album you mentioned and I had both the record owner and a random passerby compliment the record!!

Speaking of affordable funk records The Isley Brothers just scored a couple of clean copies of The Heat Is On and Go For Your Guns.
Nice!
Jean-Luc Ponty played with Frank Zappa. On Hot Rats, he played the violin part on Willie the Pimp

Dick Wagner did so many great recordings.
I snagged that Bill Cobham album at a Savers in my area for $2! Basically bought it bc how can you pass up an album cover like that!
I would add Armageddon on A&M Records from 1975, Way underrated.

Always enjoy when you do videos like these. Learn a lot! Did I spy a Euclid Records sticker on that Harvey Mandel? 😀
