Gerald Norman "Jerry" Springer (born February 13, 1944) is a television presenter, best known as host of the tabloid talk show The Jerry Springer Show since its debut in 1991. He is a former Democratic mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio, a former newsreader and a musician.
In 1970, Springer ran for Congress. He failed to unseat incumbent Republican Donald D. Clancy, but garnered 45% of the vote. He had previously spearheaded the effort to lower the voting age, including testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee in support of ratification of the 26th Amendment.
Springer was elected to the Cincinnati city council in 1971. He considered resigning in 1974 after admitting to hiring a prostitute. The episode was uncovered when a police raid on a Fort Wright, Kentucky "massage parlor" unearthed a check Springer had written for its "services". Springer came clean at a press conference. His honesty helped him win back his seat in 1975. In 1977, he was chosen to serve one year as mayor by the City Council.
In 1982, Springer sought the Democratic nomination for governor of Ohio. TV commercials for Springer's campaign referenced his use of a check to pay a prostitute, saying that he wasn't afraid of the truth "even if it hurts". He failed to win the Democratic party's nomination, and his political career was put on hold. Springer considered running for the United States Senate in 2003, but backed down due to negative affiliations with The Jerry Springer Show.
Springer's broadcast career started while he was still mayor of Cincinnati, with album-oriented rock radio station WEBN FM, which was noted for its laid-back and irreverent radio format. The station featured commentaries by Springer under the banner "The Springer Memorandum." The popularity of these commentaries helped launch his broadcasting career.
Springer was hired as a political reporter and commentator on Cincinnati's NBC affiliate, WLWT TV, which had, at the time, the lowest-rated news program. Later, having been named primary news anchor and Managing Editor, he needed a broadcast "catch phrase" in the model of other great newsmen. With the help of some others at WLWT, he created his signature line: "Take care of yourself, and each other." Within two years he was Cincinnati's number one news anchor, along with partner Norma Rashid, and for five years, the most popular one in the city, garnering ten local Emmy Awards for his nightly commentaries. It was a position he held until January 1993.
Springer's commentaries on WLWT were frequently satirized by Cincinnati radio personality Gary Burbank.
In 1997, the Chicago-based NBC-owned station WMAQ hired Springer to serve as a news commentator. However, this proved to be unpopular among viewers, as it resulted in the resignation of Ron Magers and long-time news anchor Carol Marin. After performing only two commentaries, Springer resigned as commentator.
The Jerry Springer Show debuted on September 30, 1991. It was developed by WLWT-TV to replace its Phil Donahue Show (coincidentally, the style that Springer was in was similar to Phil Donahue, and both were produced by Multimedia Entertainment). It started as a politically-oriented talk show, a longer version of Springer's commentaries. Guests included Oliver North and Jesse Jackson, and topics included homelessness and gun politics. Springer was best known for hosting the sometimes controversial tabloid talk show Jerry Springer from 1991 to 2018.
Springer died at his home in Evanston, Illinois, on April 27, 2023, at the age of 79.[49][104] A family spokesperson said that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few months prior to his death. Jerry Springer’s grave is at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie, Illinois. - บันเทิง
I met Jerry 4 years ago me and my sister. No lie he was walking downtown in downtown Baltimore city just walking he came out of the hotel when I spotted him and started walking down the street . I pulled up and My crazy sister started yelling “JERRY!” 😂He ignored tf out of her so she said Jerry I know you hear me calling you! 🤣 again ignored tf out of her so she got out the car and followed him he tried to hide in the Dunkin’ Donuts when he thought he was clear he came out and she started walking behind him then said excuse sir that’s when he turned around and said yes 😂 she said you Jerry right? He said yes she says I didn’t want to blow your cover (she already did by yelling Jerry ) she said let me get a pic he said ok ,she took the pic but my sister was high off weed so her lips was dry she lick her lips and said oh no we gotta do another one 😂 Jerry said ok but hurry up he let her get another pic . She called him like she knew him 😂 rest up Jerry sorry I didn’t want you to know I was with my sister I woulda got in the picture too
I loved every second of this story. That was a roller coaster you just took me on.
@@SCOTTONTAPE hi Scott I've always wondered what the significance is of leaving Rocks on a grave, Also Jerry Springer was born in the United Kingdom
@rayphillips6060 It’s a Jewish tradition and he goes over it, several times. Google "Rock at gravesite" and you'll find a lengthy answer
@@SCOTTONTAPE I can send you the picture through your email. I will try my best to get it to you today . All the licking and her lips was still dry she tried though 🤣

Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!
He made trash talk TV the best.
May he rest in eternal peace.
I'm from Ohio and had the pleasure of serving him in our bar. One of the most intelligent and kind human beings I've met. Rest easy Mr. Springer. 🕊️❤️🙏
Ohio gal also. O H
From ohio to have a Veterans TH-cam channel lmbclm4.
He treated ladies wrong. Let me think... Your young and don't remember what he did?
@@andreadeamon6419 , I-O😊
I'm not from ohio but I currently live here I moved from Georgia back in 2015 lol
Holy cow Scott. I was just over there yesterday. My mom and dad are buried right across from Jerry Springer! I never knew!
Jerry was definitely a pioneer. Everyone loved watching his show. Thank you for sharing.
The 90s were everything! Jerry Ricki Lake, rolanda, Maury, Jenny Jones 😢 when Jerry came on, everything stopped. The show was a classic, and so was Jerry. ❤ the show was real, especially when you seen bruises and bloody noses
I actually been to his show 3 times. There was one taping i went to on my actual birthday and told Jerry it was my birthday before it started. There was a segment with birthday cake. After the segment and cake goes everywhere, Jerry comes over to me and says “How rude! They saved you no cake!” He shook my hand and wished me a happy birthday!
Why lie?
😁🙏🏿👌🏿
Man, you gotta love Jerry Springer, he's a classic. I grew up watching him. '86' baby here lol
I felt so bad when he died. Just something about him that drew you and made you like him. I think more people loved him than there are willing to admit. I will admit to watching his show many times. I don't know why it's so entertaining, but it was. Some of the things I saw, my mouth dropped open, but I will always love Jerry. He was brilliant. RIP Jerry. Beautiful video Scott as always! ❤💐
Such a nice guy. Miss him and still watch the re runs while at dialysis. Could use more like him on this planet. R.I.P. Jerry
Jerry was born in the Underground (subway) in London 1944. His parents fled Nazi Germany they wound up in Cincinnati. The rest is history. Thanks for all those childhood memories of rushing home from school to catch an episode. Jerry is the GOAT
So sobering to see where he was buried. Another reminder we are only here for a short time. Be good to people around you
"Take care of your self and each other " Jerry Springer
Just a likeable and intelligent fella. A real Pioneer in television. RIP Jerry.
Watching his show along with Ricky Lake were my guilty pleasures! These days I don't care for trash talk/reality TV. May Jerry be at peace.
I used to not be a fan, but after I saw him on "Who Do You Think You Are",it changed my opinion of him. His parents left Germany to get away from Hitler. Their parents all stayed Germany, and he lost both of his grandmothers in the Holocaust. He was led to a memorial with rte names of those taken away. He was far away in the camera shot but you could hear him crying.
I remember reading that Jerry himself was born in an underground Tube Station in London in 1944, where people were taking refuge during Nazi bombings. His parents, along with so many others escaping the Holocaust and every day Londoners sought shelter from the war planes in the tube stations. How fitting that his later career was to lead him BACK to pure chaos and bedlam. THANKS SCOTTY for your grunt work. All us Tapeheads out here appreciate you and your efforts!
Who doesn't love Jerry, the person? A smart intelligent and genius at his craft. RIP Jerry, you were absolutely a asset to our society. Your show reminds me of Washington today!
I'm only half way through this video and commenting already. That's how amazing I found it. Love what you do for us Scott. I seen alot of tribute videos of JS but as always. You deliver it the best. I would absolutely love to see these different locations, especially forest lawn. It looks so peaceful there too

RIP Jerry my folks loved you , entertaining , charming , you had it all and thank you Scott beautiful tribute for such a nice intelligent , gentleman.🌺
I don't know if it was real. I think it's fake. But everyday after school we watched The Jerry Springer. I loved it. Thank you Scott for sharing this video. I'm gonna watching it now. May Jerry rest in peace 💞
I realized it was fake when some of the same people were on there they just changed their name's.
As a guy who grew up in the Cincinnati area my whole life I was very familiar with Jerry Springer. I’d watch him & Betsy Ross on channel 5 news pretty much every night with my parents & then he went on to national fame. Scott is right when he says Jerry lived a very interesting life. Rest easy Jerry. Thanks for sharing Scott & once again a wonderful job.
Thanks for taking the time to honor him. He brought me a lot of laughs. 🙏
England and America lost a beautiful soul Jerry Springer r.i.p will be missed so so much xx thank you Scott for another brilliant video you are such a kind sincere hearted person thank you x
What a great man, indeed. Jerry had a way of making everyone feel that they had purpose. RIP 🙏
Met him one day when I lived in Vegas . Was down at one of the casinos and he was doing something down there for charity and I ran into him right outside and very humble guy. Rip Jerry
I left high-school in 1998 and around that time me and my buddy would watch jerry all weekend on sky TV, don't watch a single ounce of live TV now, movies, bit of youtube but no soaps or other shows, jerry had charisma.
The first season of the Jerry Springer Show was filmed here in Cincinnati, and covered local serious issues, like a Phil Donahue show back in the day. I think it was filmed at WLWT's studio, where he was a news anchor. Then he moved the show to Chicago and turned the show into a Howard Stern daytime show, and his ratings boomed. I can happily say, my friends and I saw The Ringmaster in the movie theater. I got to meet him back around 2001 when I worked in television. Super nice guy. He died on my birthday.
Another really great tribute to everyone who watched his shows! I really did enjoy watching him! RIP Jerry.
Now the whole country is its own JS show!
Safe Journeys Scott! Thank you for sharing this!!! 👍🏼🦋
Oh Jerry...many hours watching ya after coming home from classes....He basically created that type of show. It's really funny hearing his background in serious politics and journalism. Very smart man in a way. He knew where the money was and he gave his audiences what they wanted. Same silliness still thrives today with all these horrific "reality" shows.Beautiful cemetery and plot. Very peaceful. Thanx for sharing his story and his grave sight. Excellent job, Scott. You always do the best!!! Until next time, take care, my friend.
I grew up watching Jerry Springer. When he first started his show was serious then it went to crazy land. The two best shows ever watched were , The man who married a horse. The man who cut his own man hood off!! That was damn wild af!! Love this video, Ty for doing this. Great man miss him much!!
I'm from Cincinnati, I remember watching him as a news anchor when I was little.
Hi from England 🙋🏻♀️🇬🇧 I use to watch this guy in the 90’s & he had a certain appeal, I felt he was genuine but 8 always wondered whether the show was theatrical or real, maybe a bit of both? I had no idea Mr Springer had died so I’m slightly in shock tbh😮 thank you for showing us his resting place & RIP Gerry, your shows were great entertainment & yes, kind of addictive 👍😎⭐️⭐️⭐️
😂 I Remember when the ring master came out an my friend an i went to the theater to watch . it Rip Jerry Springer . Thank you as always Scott
I waited on Jerry back in 2016. He was visiting his sister or something like that in Kentucky, he had family around the area I lived in. He’d frequented my job a few times in the past. So I didn’t let him know I knew who he was, I keep it professional.
He ordered a Lagunitas IPA, i was pouring his beer and the keg blew and had to let the man know we ran out. Nice guy.
Sharp as a tack with a great sense of humour and a good human . He will be missed thanks Scott
There's nothing better when I was a teenager watching Jerry Springer. The craziness was entertaining to quote. Jerry Springer" take care of yourself and each other" Rest in peace, Jerry❤
Bedlam! Perfect word for Jerry's show and life! I loved watching his shows and still laugh when I see the reruns. Being from Ohio and living close to Cincinnati myself, it always warmed my heart he was a former mayor there. RIP Jerry. Thanks for finding his grave, Scott.
Man Jerry was a part of that staying home sick from school lineup. He was one of those ppl for me you forgot were human and never thought about him ever dying like he was going to be around forever. Rest In Peace to him and Bob Barker and thanks for all the entertaining moments you gave during my childhood. 🙏🏾
Scott walking up to his resting place chanting "Jerry Jerry Jerry" is pretty damn awesome, growing up in cincy nky area ive seen a few jerry springer shows 😅 good stuff man ✌
He always seemed like such a sweetheart. His show was hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thank you Scott for doing this vlog.😊❤
Aw thank you for doing such a beautiful tribute to the latest & the greatest late Jerry Springer Scott. I Just loved his show, watched it all the time while growing up & I was home from school sick or something. I remember one day my mom caught me & my oldest daughter watching it when she was 11 months old & I got chewed for that by her lol. So I just reminded her that my dad introduced it too me at a young age as well by the way she wouldn’t remember it lol. Than right before my 21st birthday I told my mom that I was gonna attend a show in the audience for my birthday & she goes, ok just as long as you don’t bring home beads lol🤣🤣🤣 He sure will be missed.
I never missed an episode of The Jerry Springer Show ❤ Jerry was an icon in the talk show industry who will be forever missed. Thanks for this Scott. ❤
Well done video, you're really good at placing appropriate music at the right places like the intro of this one! Well done sharing Jerry's story, both things I was aware of and unaware of until watching this. May he rest in peace.
Holy crap, Scott!!!! I didn't know he was dead!!!
Great tribute to Jerry Springer, Scott. Thank YOU for all that you do to bring us these videos. You really do your research and your videos are not only informative, but respectful! I love watching your content! Love from London, Ontario. xoxo
I saw Jerry a little over a year ago in a restaurant along the river in Cincinnati. I was walking through the restaurant on the way back to my table, and as I passed one of the tables I saw Jerry having dinner with another gentleman. When I got back to my table I said to my friend, "I think I just saw Jerry Springer!". A little while later my friend excused himself from the table, then upon his return he said, "that IS Jerry Springer!". We both had a good chuckle out of that! Consequently I was shocked when I heard about his passing this year just because of the fact that he looked perfectly healthy only a few months before. It's very true that life is fleeting...RIP Jerry!
Jerry Jerry Jerry.
I know someone that appeared She said they have you wear wigs and kick off shoes in rehearsal for “ throw downs”

Scott oh my goodness I loved Jerry Springer. The crowd used to get so worked up.Jerry Jerry Jerry. I watched a ridiculous amount of episodes 🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
Appreciate seeing this amazing tribute to Jerry Springer! Scott a amazing job and we learnt a whole lot we didn't know! A phenomenal vlog! Ty for your efforts and quality content. Cheers to continued success Bro.✌🏼💫
I remember the height of Jerry Mania - back when there were fist fights and Steve Wilkos was his security guy.
Just reading your comment, can't believe its been that long ago. I rem Steve as the body guard! I go back to find the ones where Steve is on the stage! The stage was partially a show. But the actors should have been hired as stunt men and women in the real movies. They made it look real! Jerry is missed, that's for sure!
Hi scott. How it going with life. A great video to watch. My dad watched jerry springer here in ireland. I dare say my dad is having a great chat with jerry up in heaven.. Love his grave. So peaceful in the cemetary. Thank you for your hard rock. Safe travels.

Jerry seemed like a great guy. He was also in a country singer Brad Paisley's video for his song "I'm gonna miss her" if you haven't seen it you should check it out. It's funny and even shows Jerry playing guitar in one scene. Thank you for sharing this great video Scott.
Scott, thank you for showing us Jerry Springer’s grave, I have seen episodes of his show as we got some of them in the U.K. at some point. I thought he was a nice guy.

"Take care of yourselves and each other" My favorite Jerry Springerism
Jerry... what a great guy. Born in 1944 during an air raid at Highgate tube station, in London. He always had a great affinity with London. Great video btw!
About a month ago, I had a patient whom told me he worked on The Jerry Springer show and he said about Jerry Springer, “He was a very nice guy. He talked to everyone on the set.” I asked him, “Was all the drama real?” He immediately responded and laughed real hard, “About 75% was real the rest of the story they added onto it and told them to get into the act with high drama. It was soo much fun to watch them get into it.” I said, “I used to watch it and laugh. Jerry had some good come backs.
Thanks for the video scott....love as always from the uk
I only saw Jerry on America's Got Talent as the host. He seemed like such a nice guy. Didn't know he passed until this year.

thanks for doing this vlog about jerry springer, he was a very amazing person, as he did so much in his life, the jerry springer show I used to watch when I was home from work and my friends just thought it was the most funniest thing on TV at that time, whether it was fake or not it was funny to watch all these people with issues. RIP Jerry.
Scott is one of the best graveyard biography storytelling person on here!
I was sitting at home one day, watching the Jerry Springer Show........and as I was watching I noticed my neighbor who lived in the apartment upstairs from mine was a guest on the show. Her girfriend was cheating with her cousin in a lesbian love triangle. It was fake of course. She told me how they fabricted the story and how the show's producers encouraged them to fight on stage. They even gave her a commercial - free orange colored VHS of the show which she asked me did i want to watch. She passed away a few years ago from an accidental fentanyl overdose and I always think about her on the show.
R.I.P. JERRY.
YOU ARE MISSED. ♥️
Good Evening Scott 🙋🏽. I hope you had a wonderful day ‼️😃👍🏽.

I watched Jerry Springer all the time back in the 90’s. I think some of it may have been real but a lot was fake. I think a lot of people just wanted to get their 15 minutes of fame just like you said. Still, it was very entertaining. Jerry seemed like a very likable and kind person. It would have been cool to have met him. Thanks for the video, Scott!
