Corazon's death. And not just that. The peak was when Law's crying became audible, finalizing Corazon's death. He kept himself alive just long enough for the sound barrier to keep Law from being heard as he escaped. It's even more heartbreaking in the anime with the voice acting and the music.
What makes it worse is that the whole time, we're laughing at the goofy pratfalls of Corazon, and it's that very thing that gets him caught and leads to his death.

My number one heartbreaking moment was: The end of the Strawhats on sambaodi. I was thinking to myself: no this cant be, they are all gone wtf. Did the adventure just end. It was so heartbreaking to see luffy strugle to safe his crew, and suffer when he couldnt protect them
I started watching op when they were on zou.. but by the time I caught up they were on whole cake island and honestly that moment you described was sad for me too but because I knew there were episodes after I was like "it's okay they can't die" while I cried blood 😂

Ahh, same here. Around twelve years back, I haven't really watched One Piece from the start then, but I saw about two or three episodes of the Marineford arc right around the moment Ace died. I never even knew Luffy had previously been able to save him before that only to lose him again for good. I heard Ace say to thank everyone for loving him and then dying with a smile like that's fine and all and it just broke me. For twelve years I stubbornly refused to watch One Piece and when I finally, finally did get around to watching it, the closer it got to the Marineford arc (from Thriller Bark when Ace's vivre card started dwindling to Luffy finding out about Ace's capture), I was so scared when the opening changed 'cause for some reason, ROOTLESS's song ONE DAY was apparently part of my trauma and I cried in relief when it still wasn't time for that. Long story short, Ace was my one greatest love and my one greatest trauma in anime since twelve years ago (I didn't even really know him then) and up to this day (I still cry at random moments when I remember him and he apparently didn't even have that much screen time).
Also the fact that Brook suffered loneliness for so many years then during sabaody he got sent to an island where the put him in a cage all alone, glad he got saved and got famous tho
Hm.... Personally speaking, I found the Brooke/Laboon story as well as Ace's death to be more heartbreaking than the bottom three of this list, but maybe that's just me. That said, Water 7 and Enies Lobby still remain as my favorite arc up to this point xD

The moment that almost made me cry was when Tony Tony Chopper was shot by Dr.Hiluluk. This almost made me cry especially because Dr.Hiluluk said he would never shoot Chopper, but he did anyways because he wanted Chopper to leave because he was dying

I’ve been reading through the comments and I’ve seen a lot of people saying Ace’s death was the most heartbreaking, and I agree that it was heartbreaking, but for me, the most heartbreaking part about it was that it happened in front of Luffy. Seeing Luffy, who is sometimes annoying optimistic and full of life, just crumple and fall apart was so heart wrenchingly sad that I don’t think I’ll ever be the same after watching that. So I guess for me it’s not Ace’s death, but Luffy’s collapse at losing his brother

As an audience member, it really shocked me more than left me heartbroken. I really like your take on that moment though! Less about Ace and more about seeing our protagonist shattered into pieces after a decade of nothing but pure optimism.
I also really enjoyed Ace's character and am sad that he won't be in it anymore, but I am very glad that though he lost Ace, Luffy meets Sabo again and still has a brother in the world
Personally, I love Sabo, but I understand your point about him feeling like a replacement. I think it might have been better if it was hinted at a little bit before Ace's death that there was another brother. It would not seem as bad if that had happened. Sabo kind of feels like a "I'm sorry I killed off Ace, so have another character who is an adopted brother to Luffy!" I think it would have worked really well if it had been hinted at while Luffy was at Impel Down trying to rescue Ace.
Thank you for adding Usaap Vs Luffy, Usaap grew some much as a character during that fight and during the fight with franky's gang. A man that knows he is weak but doesnt give up the fight for what he believes in, is a true man and a true hero. Also Senors Pink's and kyros back story broke my heart in two. I didnt like Pink at all but his backstory made he like him.
Senior Pink's backstory was just...amazing. I really don't understand the people who hate it. Honestly, I'd say it's one of the best flashbacks in the series!

(Chopper is by far my favorite character) And yes, Merry's funeral is and always will be a heartbreaking moment. Very good video!! In One Piece, there are so many sad moments. Personally I found Ace's death more stupid than heartbreaking purely in the way it was executed, with Ace simply throwing himself to Akainu instead of escaping. In my opinion it could've been easy for Oda to make it so that Ace's death happened purely because of Akainu's and marines' overwhelming power and numbers instead of Ace being stupid and bitter.
But it was absolutely heartbreaking to see Dadan hit Garp and just cry over Ace because she knows how Luffy must feel. Damn even thinking about it lets me cry
The death of the Going Merry always gets me. Just the soft voice, the apologies, the reactions of the characters. Seeing that much emotion just overflows into you.
When Sanji found out that Pudding was lying, and he started trying to light his cigarette, and sanji started crying. To this day I still cry whenever I rewatch.
It's because at that moment in time, Sanji felt like he was truly alone and had no allies. His dad was a lunatic that branded his hands with exploding cuffs if he tried to escape, his brothers picked up where they left off years ago and abused him, Reiju couldn't help him this time and could only offer her advice, he had to grit his teeth and lie/tell the crew off (including his Nami-san) in front of his family before pulling a Water 7 Usopp and fighting his own captain; and unlike Usopp, he wins and seriously injures Luffy who was starving at that point, prompting Sanji to go against his code as a chef and leave him to go hungry (in turn, causing Luffy to yell to him that he won't eat a bite of anything and would rather go hungry unless Sanji cooked something for him). Sanji, seeing that his wife was a three-eyed psycho who wanted to kill him, realized he had nowhere to go and no one else to turn to for help. He was truly, undeniably, 100% without question, alone

Good to see the right moment was made #1. So far that scene has made me cry every time I see it. Nothing is more depressing than the loss of the Merry.
What made the number 1 spot particularly sad for me was when Usopp cried. Right after the "I'm sorry." The break in Usopp's voice and the deep inhalation was very real sounding. The voice actor for Usopp did a great job throughout that arc.
Luffy and Ace losing their brother, it was a sad moment, specially when it comes to the manga again that Sabo was still alive and didn't know who either of them were ....
I swear Oda makes the series so comedic most of the time to make the heartbreaking moments hurt so much more. I find the heartbreaking moments in this series so much sadder than anything from a serious or even purposely heartbreaking series. Each joke and lighthearted moment is another barb on the knife Oda then plunges into your gut
The only moment I remember crying was while watching Chopper's backstory, but I also felt extremely sad during the Whole Cake Island arc where Sanji overhears the horrible things Pudding is saying about him. He's my favorite character and when I read that panel I couldn't help but feel broken too :(

Ace's death was also the most heartbreaking and the moment from the strawhats defeated, jailbreak arc, marineford war until jinbe relieved luffy were its tragedy. Im so hit by that all.
For me the saddest moment was either when Ace died or when the Merry died. It was already spoiled for me that Ace was gonna die so I didn’t cry but it was still heartbreaking, though when the Merry died I didn’t know there was gonna be a funeral or what her last words were gonna be so it actually made me cry.
There were only three moments in the entirety of one piece that made my cry. The funeral of Merry, the death of Brook’s crew, and the reveal that Raizo was safe, though the last one was not particularly of sadness, but more of the emotional impact of trying the strings together. I’d say that these three moments along with Usopp’s fight against Luffy and actually the absolute pummeling of Akainu, especially how it was handled in the Anime with the strong sense of sadness and weight and the excellent use of music, are my top five.
Agreed with all of these and their order. In fact, this was (and still is) my list before even watching the video. There are other heart breaking moments, sure (Brook's crew dying all around him gets me... Luffy breaking down in the archipelago when his crew's all separated gets me... and a few more), but they're all definitely below this bunch.
One of the saddest moments in one piece for me is during the thriller bark saga when brook plays "binks sake" during the banquet. The firat half of the song is lighthearted, but as luffy begins to talk to brook about the song, brook reveals his past about laboon and his fallen crewmates. He then starts to play the sound dial that brook and the rumbar pirates recorded all on the brink of death. The line "warewa kaizoku", "we are pirates" resonated with me really hard because thats what the esscence of one piece really was. Being pirates and being free
I think the most I cried was during The Whole Cake arc. Sanji is my favourite characters and watching him being abused since he was a toddler was very very hard
One of the top heartbreaking moments for me was during the Ace, Sabo, and Luffy flashback where Ace broke down at the cliff after receiving Sabo's letter. Cause lets face it, Sabo was Ace's first and only friend and emotional support system before Luffy arrived and seeing him cry for the first time (as a kid) was just T^T Ace's death was a big one but that was more seeing Luffy's reaction to the loss than the actual death itself. Also, Sanji's and Law's backstories ripped my heart out though I'm not sure if those were revealed by the time you made this list. But the other really big one for me was after Brook told about this last song with his old crew and then cried about how Happy he was when Luffy let him join.
One for me is very early on. Zoro's backstory when he was a child. And the friend he lost. It's not so much that she did die but it's rather how that really got to me. That it was an accident that killed her. Just a sudden accident like that. It's a very human thing. As death can happen at any time. It's when I stopped liking liking One Piece and started to love it. It really broke me the first time watching it.

ESPECIALLY NO1! what made it more said in the anime was the song playing in the background of that whole scene whilst it shows us flash back clips of all the journeys and fun they had on Merry whilst cutting back to it engulfed in flames! Talking about songs in the background, do you remember when they played Ave Maria when Hiriluk killed himself? It's one of, if not the only time a 'real life song' was used in One Piece and I loved it for that moment.
I just finished the episode where the strawhats say goodbye to the Merry. I can’t remember the last time I cried so hard. I’m genuinely traumatized. At this point, we already knew that the Merry couldn’t sail anymore, but it still hurt like hell to hear it say; “thank you, goodbye.”
There's so far been only three times I have teared up: 1. Brooks backstory hit me the hardest 2. Choppers story 3. Garp crying next to Ace on the execution platform

Nami stabbing her arm was when I lost it. Every stab was painful to watch, then to top it off she finally asks for help. I hardly ever cry watching shows or movies so it takes a lot for me to cry.
apart of these, one of my favorite more resent moments is when Sanji tried to get rid of luffy in front of his family and then Luffy gives him the speech that without him, he can't be the pirate king. Even in the anime it followed up with a montage of iconic moments using the first ED. Im still crying T____T

I’ve been reading through the comments and I’ve seen a lot of people saying Ace’s death was the most heartbreaking, and I agree that it was heartbreaking, but for me, the most heartbreaking part about it was that it happened in front of Luffy. Seeing Luffy, who is sometimes annoying optimistic and full of life, just crumple and fall apart was so heart wrenchingly sad that I don’t think I’ll ever be the same after watching that. So I guess for me it’s not Ace’s death, but Luffy’s collapse at losing his brother

As for Ace, it's without a doubt Luffy's most heartbreaking moment. As an audience member, it really shocked me more than left me heartbroken. I really like your take on that moment though! Less about Ace and more about seeing our protagonist shattered into pieces after a decade of nothing but pure optimism.
I also really enjoyed Ace's character and am sad that he won't be in it anymore, but I am very glad that though he lost Ace, Luffy meets Sabo again and still has a brother in the world
Yeah, I'm less sure about Sabo. It's great for Luffy, but narratively, he really does just feel like a replacement Ace.
Personally, I love Sabo, but I understand your point about him feeling like a replacement. I think it might have been better if it was hinted at a little bit before Ace's death that there was another brother. It would not seem as bad if that had happened. Sabo kind of feels like a "I'm sorry I killed off Ace, so have another character who is an adopted brother to Luffy!" I think it would have worked really well if it had been hinted at while Luffy was at Impel Down trying to rescue Ace.
Yeah, exactly! It kind of took away the power of Oda's decision to kill Ace by bringing him back in another form and even the same devil fruit now.
Thank you for adding Usaap Vs Luffy, Usaap grew some much as a character during that fight and during the fight with franky's gang. A man that knows he is weak but doesnt give up the fight for what he believes in, is a true man and a true hero.
Also Senors Pink's and kyros back story broke my heart in two. I didnt like Pink at all but his backstory made he like him.
Senior Pink's backstory was just...amazing. I really don't understand the people who hate it. Honestly, I'd say it's one of the best flashbacks in the series!

I think Robin's heartbreaking part was sadder than Nami's. Oh my gosh, I fully agree about Chopper's past! (Chopper is by far my favorite character) And yes, Merry's funeral is and always will be a heartbreaking moment. Very good video!! In One Piece, there are so many sad moments. You should do another video of more moments in the anime/manga... like funny moments, shocking moments, ect. :)

I found it more shocking than I did heartbreaking.
Personally I found Ace's death more stupid than heartbreaking purely in the way it was executed, with Ace simply throwing himself to Akainu instead of escaping. In my opinion it could've been easy for Oda to make it so that Ace's death happened purely because of Akainu's and marines' overwhelming power and numbers instead of Ace being stupid and bitter.
I think it wasnt as heartbreaking cuz somebady needed to die for luffy to become even stronger cuz if he didnt die luffy wouldnt train so hard
I found more heart breaking. When jimbe says to luffy. You Still have your nakama. When luffy hit himself because of Ace death.
But it was absolutely heartbreaking to see Dadan hit Garp and just cry over Ace because she knows how Luffy must feel. Damn even thinking about it lets me cry

what about when Kuma scattered the crew, I had no idea what was going on and legitimately thought that this was the end of one piece.
When Sanji found out that Pudding was lying, and he started trying to light his cigarette, and sanji started crying. To this day I still cry whenever I rewatch.
It's because at that moment in time, Sanji felt like he was truly alone and had no allies. His dad was a lunatic that branded his hands with exploding cuffs if he tried to escape, his brothers picked up where they left off years ago and abused him, Reiju couldn't help him this time and could only offer her advice, he had to grit his teeth and lie/tell the crew off (including his Nami-san) in front of his family before pulling a Water 7 Usopp and fighting his own captain; and unlike Usopp, he wins and seriously injures Luffy who was starving at that point, prompting Sanji to go against his code as a chef and leave him to go hungry (in turn, causing Luffy to yell to him that he won't eat a bite of anything and would rather go hungry unless Sanji cooked something for him). Sanji, seeing that his wife was a three-eyed psycho who wanted to kill him, realized he had nowhere to go and no one else to turn to for help.
He was truly, undeniably, 100% without question, alone

What made the number 1 spot particularly sad for me was when Usopp cried. Right after the "I'm sorry." The break in Usopp's voice and the deep inhalation was very real sounding. The voice actor for Usopp did a great job throughout that arc.

I swear Oda makes the series so comedic most of the time to make the heartbreaking moments hurt so much more. I find the heartbreaking moments in this series so much sadder than anything from a serious or even purposely heartbreaking series. Each joke and lighthearted moment is another barb on the knife Oda then plunges into your gut

The only moment I remember crying was while watching Chopper's backstory, but I also felt extremely sad during the Whole Cake Island arc where Sanji overhears the horrible things Pudding is saying about him. He's my favorite character and when I read that panel I couldn't help but feel broken too :(

For me the saddest moment was either when Ace died or when the Merry died. It was already spoiled for me that Ace was gonna die so I didn’t cry but it was still heartbreaking, though when the Merry died I didn’t know there was gonna be a funeral or what her last words were gonna be so it actually made me cry.
There were only three moments in the entirety of one piece that made my cry. The funeral of Merry, the death of Brook’s crew, and the reveal that Raizo was safe, though the last one was not particularly of sadness, but more of the emotional impact of trying the strings together. I’d say that these three moments along with Usopp’s fight against Luffy and actually the absolute pummeling of Akainu, especially how it was handled in the Anime with the strong sense of sadness and weight and the excellent use of music, are my top five.
Agreed with all of these and their order. In fact, this was (and still is) my list before even watching the video. There are other heart breaking moments, sure (Brook's crew dying all around him gets me... Luffy breaking down in the archipelago when his crew's all separated gets me... and a few more), but they're all definitely below this bunch.

Chopper and Robin's flashbacks are the most heartbreaking to me, along with the Rumbar pirate's final performance that they record for Laboon.
Great ranking, I'm also from the minority of fans that puts Chopper ahead of Robin in the most dramatic flashback in the crew.
One of the saddest moments in one piece for me is during the thriller bark saga when brook plays "binks sake" during the banquet. The firat half of the song is lighthearted, but as luffy begins to talk to brook about the song, brook reveals his past about laboon and his fallen crewmates. He then starts to play the sound dial that brook and the rumbar pirates recorded all on the brink of death. The line "warewa kaizoku", "we are pirates" resonated with me really hard because thats what the esscence of one piece really was. Being pirates and being free

I think OP has emotionally wrecked me more than any other anime series. Perhaps television series in general as well.
I think the most I cried was during The Whole Cake arc. Sanji is my favourite characters and watching him being abused since he was a toddler was very very hard
One of the top heartbreaking moments for me was during the Ace, Sabo, and Luffy flashback where Ace broke down at the cliff after receiving Sabo's letter. Cause lets face it, Sabo was Ace's first and only friend and emotional support system before Luffy arrived and seeing him cry for the first time (as a kid) was just T^T
Ace's death was a big one but that was more seeing Luffy's reaction to the loss than the actual death itself. Also, Sanji's and Law's backstories ripped my heart out though I'm not sure if those were revealed by the time you made this list.
But the other really big one for me was after Brook told about this last song with his old crew and then cried about how Happy he was when Luffy let him join.
One for me is very early on. Zoro's backstory when he was a child. And the friend he lost. It's not so much that she did die but it's rather how that really got to me. That it was an accident that killed her. Just a sudden accident like that. It's a very human thing. As death can happen at any time. It's when I stopped liking liking One Piece and started to love it. It really broke me the first time watching it.

ESPECIALLY NO1! what made it more said in the anime was the song playing in the background of that whole scene whilst it shows us flash back clips of all the journeys and fun they had on Merry whilst cutting back to it engulfed in flames! Talking about songs in the background, do you remember when they played Ave Maria when Hiriluk killed himself? It's one of, if not the only time a 'real life song' was used in One Piece and I loved it for that moment.
This could be easily a top 20 list and the number 20 would still be crushing. It's just how great one piece is at tragedy

I just finished the episode where the strawhats say goodbye to the Merry. I can’t remember the last time I cried so hard. I’m genuinely traumatized. At this point, we already knew that the Merry couldn’t sail anymore, but it still hurt like hell to hear it say; “thank you, goodbye.”
There's so far been only three times I have teared up:
1. Brooks backstory hit me the hardest
2. Choppers story
3. Garp crying next to Ace on the execution platform
This deserved to be a top 10. Particularly I missed the goodbye from alabasta and the conclusion to rebecca’s story
Another one is when sanji finally know that absalom have his fruit of dream.. Suke suke no mi.. Very heartbreaking.. Wonder what will happened to him when he know that shirliew now have that fruit
Nami stabbing her arm was when I lost it. Every stab was painful to watch, then to top it off she finally asks for help. I hardly ever cry watching shows or movies so it takes a lot for me to cry.
If I had to choose a moment, I’d say when Luffy was trying to save Ace and Garp was trying to stop him but he couldn’t do it

apart of these, one of my favorite more resent moments is when Sanji tried to get rid of luffy in front of his family and then Luffy gives him the speech that without him, he can't be the pirate king. Even in the anime it followed up with a montage of iconic moments using the first ED.
