❗Dombra, the instrument, played for generations by the Kazakh nomads of the steppes, the 2 strings made from horsehair and gut. His grandfather was a Master Player receiving many awards from his government and considered a "national treasure". As a little boy, he taught Dimash to play the dombra and chess, and they played both together until his grandfather's recent death. Thank you for your time and effort ! ❤

Dimash began playing DOMBRA, a typical string instrument from Kazakhstan and Turkic countries. This beautiful Kasakha folk song was masterfully transformed by Dimash adding absolutely brilliant funk and jazz sounds!!!
Dimash es para mi el cantante mas fascinante (palabra literal) que he escuhado. A mi me gusta de sus canciones el 99.9 % pero ese 99.9 me encanta ,me transporta. Siempre habrá algo que talvez no nos guste. Cuestión muy personal.

Dudarai means My Curly, Dudar is the nickname of the boy in the song, as he had curly hair. There is a bit of a translation issue too. The girl's name should Merrium or Mariam not Maria. I do love the new arrangement of this song but I still love the original folk style too.

Hi Bud, Great reaction, I was puzzled by that too till one Kazakh girl explained. If you followed the subs you can see the girl fell in love with a boy called Dudar and apparently this can be suffixed with 'ai' 'mai' and others which add more to the description of the person it refers to. 👍👍☺️🇬🇧

I don't speak Kazakh but I would guess by looking at the translation that it is the Kazakh way of saying my Dudarai, with my being on the end of the name. Just a guess. Love the way he switched this song. I catch myself singing it when I go for my walks. If you told me a few years ago I would be singing Kazakh songs in a park in Texas I would have said no way but here I am.
Some people prefer the first folk part, you prefer the jazzy funky part, I love both parts. Thank you, I enjoyed watching you enjoying it! I don’t have an answer for tte Dudam-ai question, but what I understand is that it’s an endearment, a bit like in English you’d say: Thomas, Tom, Tommy, Tommy-mine. I can ask some of the Kazakh Dears, and let you know.

Dudar is the name of the lad.
Dudar-ay means "Oh, Dudar!". What you heared, Dudam-ay, may be "Oh, My Dudar".
The problem is, Kazakh is a language quite different from ours, and surely translation is not 100% exact. So, there must be a reason for his spelling.
However, in life sometimes is better to let us connect with the feeling, and stop meassuring every single step on the way...

For me the 2 songs that give me a "just okay" vibe are Together and Be Happy from Jackie Chans movie.
I don't like jazz so this song did not hit me well at first. I do love the delightful lyrics and this song has truly grown on me.🙄😏

For his masters degree in music Dimash studied jazz and composition. There is a love story behind “Dudarai”. I don’t remember exactly how it goes, maybe someone else could tell you! 😊
