      Seems like a bit of an issue when you give away log splitters to promote sales but you can't seem to supply the ones you've already sold. Easton made should perhaps spend less time making videos splitting firewood and spend more time building splitters. I was debating between easton and wolf ridge, I think I have my answer now.

    I just wanted to say thank you for going into detail on different parts of your business. I am a farmer in Indiana so I am not completely dumb on different things such as making firewood and mechanical things however you go into great detail on marketing that I know about in grain marketing but not in this business and dealing with the general public. I just subscribed to this channel a couple weeks ago and I am still looking at the older videos you posted in the past year I am amazed at the depth you go into to explain things that would need to be known if I ever wanted to expand business and start to get into the firewood business as a off farming season side business as I hire and employ outside help and lay them off in the winter at the present time. In other words I would rather not lay them off but instead give them a year around paycheck if they want to work. You seems like a honest and sincere man and the kind of person I listen too. Thank you again.

      @@ohiowoodburner thank you Joe. I pay close attention to what people say on you tube and how they say it and I retired from the US Navy after serving 26 years and I learned to pay attention to small things a person says. You come across as a very honest sincere person and please don't take what I say lightly because I am not a person to sweet talk anyone. I shoot from the hip all the time or I don't say anything at all but when I do speak I say it as I see it.

    • @americasdream1265
      @americasdream1265 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you said you pay in the area of $100 a cord from timber buyers and cutters in your area. The last time I purchased firewood was many years ago for my fireplaces and I paid $75 a cord for cut and processed firewood but I know everything has got much more expensive since then. I don't want you to answer this question if you are afraid of some wood cutter in your area using it against you but can you I ask what percent profit do you shoot for on your return after you count your labor and expense? If I get into the firewood cutting business it would be with all hired help except for myself. I have four employees who work about five months out of the year in the fields helping me plant and harvest the crops and then another three or four months hauling grain to the market (I own four semis and grain trailers for them to drive) so I would use them between planting season and harvest season processing firewood and delivering it and after harvest until I market my crops and then the time from after the crops are all hauled until we start the planting season again working in the firewood. Most of the land I own is tillable cropland (corn and soybeans) I have about 45 acres of woods and 60 acres of pasture land for my horses and 50 acres of hay field out of 2960 total acres which is also where my house, barn, tool sheds and workshop sets so that leaves me with just 2800 of crops that I plant and harvest. So I wouldn't want to cut off my timber and even if I did 45 acres wouldn't last me long, so I would buy the firewood just like you do. I have been watching your videos long enough to see you buy your Bobcat tractor. I own a bobcat skidloader but I didn't even know that Bobcat also made tractors. When you started looking I was hoping that you would buy a John Deere since I run all John Deere tractors lol. If that tractor is as good as their skidloaders you will be very happy with it. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be. Thank you Joe for responding to my first comment.

    Loved the beginning...you or your daughters must have been in theater. The huge efficiency for that machine is being able to split the whole round at one time (up to a certain size), having total control of the size of the pieces, and since the round is position on its butt everything is not a balancing act...seems like a perfect fit for your business. Congrats on your new machine and congrats on attracting the attention of a player in the industry like Eastonmade with your channel.

    Huge congratulations on the new addition to the toybox!
    It's a spectacular machine and I'm sure it'll be of huge benefit to your production system, to say nothing of your back.
    I'll second the suggestion below to set it up under cover, it'll greatly extend the life of the machine and will enhance its value should you decide to sell it/upgrade in the future. The same goes for the other equipment too!
    Finally, all these American made splitters that allow single-handed use or a foot pedal give me the heebie-jeebies: please, please, please at the very least make it a hard-wired habit to keep your thumbs (and other squishy body parts!) off the top of the log at all times!

    Thanks for the note on the Gum. I've been working through a bunch of ash that I purchased and every now and then I'll get a log that is very white and stringy like that. I thought it might be Elm, but that gum looks very similar to what I've been splitting.

    It's funny just the other day I turned on a TH-cam video and the guy from Oklahoma got one from the company too. I noticed that he extended the out riggers passed the machine. Now for you to find a place so you can keep it in one place.
