    Great video. However there other factors in calculating your profit. For example, turn rate. If you're selling a zillion of your paddles you'll realize closer to the full potential profit margin. But if you spent all of that money and you're only selling a paddle in every now and then you're overhead costs are killing you. I'll see you have to calculate your time into the formula. That's a real cost. You could spend so much time in marketing, shipping, contacting suppliers, that you find out in the bottom line your profits are eating away and you could be making more working at McDonald's.
    An ultimately the bottom line is that if your product doesn't sell you don't have a profit but you may have a ton of red ink from all of your startup and other costs.
    Anyway good luck. I hope you succeed but as you already know it's a long road.

    Business Insurance! Office space (even if renting a room from yourself in your home to get started.)
    Warranty paddles. Salaries. Retirement. Health Insurance. Pretty soon we’re talking real money.

    It's pretty amazing how many paddle companies there are on the market, must be in the hundreds or several hundred. What I wonder is how many companies are selling essentially the same paddle with different graphics. I think having a great warranty, great customer service, and fast shipping are super important for a company to be successful. Interesting information, not that I'd ever want to start a paddle company, but I've dealt with lots of companies in China and personally visited companies in China, it's really something you better WANT to do, if you only go in half way, you won't be successful. Good luck with your company, I hope you have some success! P.S. Something more interesting to me is designing and selling an inexpensive ball machine. Wonder if any of your contacts in China have something :),.

    Thanks for the great video! Did you have to pay an import duty since your order for a batch of paddles was over $800? Or were you able to keep orders under $800. How did that work?

    I am a Sr. Graphic Designer and I just found pickleball. I have so many ideas I can't believe people are not doing yet. I guess my question would be funding and sourcing, which you covered. But, how did you get your funding? Was it bank, individual investors, or what?

    How do you ship? If someone buys one paddle from your store, do you have custom boxes? Wrapped in bubble wrap? Do you have a special way to ship the paddles? What is the cost of shipping a paddle using your shipping mehtods typically?

      We handle it all in house. We buy our packaging. And through some shipping apps that sync with the website, it's not too complicated.

    Hope you don’t mind answering one more question…can you tell me, do carbon fiber paddles need to have the face polished? What does this do exactly? Is it for functionality or aesthetics? Both? Do most carbon fiber paddle companies do this process? Thanks a bunch in advance!

      The carbon fiber is too gritty and won’t pass usa pickleball standards, so they are polished to be within the correct roughness limits

    Hi, for the actual design of the surface of the paddle, how do we send that to a manufacturer? Not the logo, but the actual design of the paddle? Do we hire a graphic designer? Do they use like a pickleball paddle template? What design "file" I guess does the manufacturer need? Thank you so much!!!

      Usually you use a CAD program. Shaper3d is one I use on iPad that’s pretty impressive. The. You would send that to the factory to create a mold.

    Cool video. My issue is to support smaller companies most paddles seem to be almost identical specs and have to buy sight unseen since not sold in stores. Just seems like a risk when can demo other companies through some stores. I’ve seen legacy , volair, Vatic, bread and butter, now kiwi. How do I choose ?

      I agree! Our next big push is to try to get in more stores. That’s why we make videos. It’s the only way to show as much as we can about the paddle. That said, every brand you listed is great and you can’t go wrong!

    My friend had some demos made with his logo, but he seems clueless in technology, I had to explain things to him. His paddles already have the USAPA approved logo printed on them, I asked how did it go getting them approved. He was once again clueless. I'm not sure if the manufacturer already has approved paddles and they just print his logo and they are approved?

      Nope, all new designs/ brands need to be listed on the USA Pickleball website . You need to submit it to USA pickleball to be listed.

      The Chinese will Silk Screen anything you send them in the Art. They could care less whether it's accurate or not.
