This is the great achievement by ISRO , ISRO always give region of pride by meet his goal of exploring space...
The basic thing is to remember than space travel is not like land travel. Once you are in space and get speed you wont slow down. Its like if you press the accelerator an the car and it gets to a speed of 60 km/h and then if you release the accelerator the car will stay at 60 km/h and wont sow down like on land. When you achieve enough speed and are at the height of space then the satellite will stay in position without falling back. Then you can again start the engine to make it a little faster, the faster it becomes, the farther away it will go from earth and its orbit circle will get bigger. If you increase your speed enough you will get closer to the moon than to the Earth so now the moon will be pulling you, then because your speed is so high you will after some time even leave the moon and go back to circling the Earth, thats why then you have to start the engine in reverse to slow yourself enough that you keep circling the moon. Then the lander has to slow down even more so that gravity will have a stronger force on it than its speed so you will start falling towards the moon. Then you will slowly start speeding towards the moon but you have to have your engines on some speed so that you fall down slowly and land softly without damaging your lander. Hope this helped you to understand space and how satellites work. If you have any questions then you can ask me.

@Mani Well, Chandrayaan 1 was a great success and managed to do what no other could, that is to find the presence of pure water in ice form on the moon. Mangalyaan, an even greater undertaking was also hugely successful and our rockets have a 95% success rates which no one has been able to match, neither NASA nor spacex.
