Woah, Chris. As a beginner, this is such a useful lesson. I’ve started this just so that I can learn the slurs and timing, so that I can put your tips and input to good use. Happy days. Many thanks for an amazing lesson. You’re a champion.
Very good lesson there, Chris! It's interesting to note that you can get an accent by paying 2 notes in a single bow (07'09 as marked on the music "slurring into a strong beat"). Many players think that you need to change bow direction to get an accent, but you have shown that this is not always the case.
Glad you enjoyed this one. Yes, the accent within a slurred bow is interesting. The backup style of klezmer and Hungarian fiddlers is called the Duva, and includes exactly this; doo-wah (in one bow)
OMG! I've been badgering my fiddle coach about how to make better bowing decisions to add pulse and drive for ages. Your explanation is brilliant- Clear concise and transferable to any Irish polka. I don't suppose you've done this using a reel as an example? Now I know how to do it I just need to develop the co-ordination (Ugh!).
Another great lesson thanks Chris. I seem to be starting to accumulate fiddles, each with a different tone. I am wondering if you could do a lesson with some guidelines for matching an instrument with a piece of music. (I.e. if you have more than one fiddle to choose from, how do you decide which one to use for any given piece.)
@@TheFiddleChannel It’s SOOOo worth the repeats, MrChrisMann. It’s taught me so much. FWIW: I’ve played through each version as you created it, until I can play it 10 times clean, in that style. (As a total beginner, let me be clear and say it’s taken huge effort so far. But I’m getting it down. I’m now on Version 4, and super tricky for my brain to master, but amazingly enough, it’s kinda becoming clear, like second nature. I honestly think that your valuable input here (on this lesson alone) has progressed my playing by 2 years in terms of fast-tracking the concepts of emphasis, slurring, timing, etc. Great tune that’s tricky for a beginner, but SO rewarding. Thank you for being a great teacher for myself and so many others. Much appreciation, sir.

Hi Sean. So glad you found this useful. I will have a go at something similar with a reel. Give me a couple of weeks!

Hi Rhonda. That's an interesting suggestion, though I don't think I'd get anywhere with it!
Temporary Bookmark. Will remove when I’m done working on my million repeats…! 8:33
Glad to hear it's worth the repeats!
