The equivalent of Lavashtu in Turkish mythology is "Al Karısı" (red lady or trickster lady) . It's almost the same belief. People don't believe in it actively but they still practice rituals to save the babies and mothers from the Al Karisi.

Fascinating. As usual you have given an interesting and informative narrative of an obscure and often sensationalized topic.
My mother and father are from Jordan and they are Muslim. I remember growing up and having a stomach ache and my mother pouring Zam Zam holy water into a Golden Bowl with Arabic inscriptions written in it and asking me to drink from it while they recited Surah from the Quran.
These practices aren't in Islam? I mean in Islamic scriptures and teachings! Right? I guess they are something more cultural . Similar sorts of practices are also found in Pakistan.
@@manahil558 definitely isn't something in the Quran nor is it something that I have ever read in any Hadith. I was so confused at the time but I was only a child and I was feeling sick so I wasn't going to question it but I forgot all about it until it was brought up this video. I suddenly remember a few other little things that either my mother or aunts would do.

Interesting stuff, in Hinduism particularly many of the Hindu saints have said repeating one of the names of God, Rama, Shiva, Krishna etc, would keep away evil spirits and demons. In the book "No Mind, I am the Self" written by David Godman about the life of Lakshmana Swami, he describes being able to actually see a demon walking down a train track at night, it had bells on its ankles and jingled as it walked! He also said that evil spirits couldn't really cause harm to living people, the only thing they could do is scare you with fear.. if you had no fear of them, and didn't react, they have no power over you.
So, Demons are homeless?

David Godman also describes how Papagi would play with Krishna and the other gods, before attaining non dual realisation. Frankly, I'm really not sure what to make of these stories.

Beg pardon, but if Pazuzu is at once 'Lord of the evil wind spirits' and a mostly protective figure, whose likeness is not very different from other bird headed, 4 winged protective or blessing spirits, might it be that the title comes from his ability to command and control those evil spirits, rather than from his being the most powerful of them?

The ancient Babylonians views of demons seem to be very similar to the Islamic concept of jinn
The story of the Babylonian king Hammurabi receiving his famous law code from the sun god Shamash has parallels with Moses receiving the 10 Commandments from Yahweh on Mount Sinai (possibly a volcano), as well as Muhammad receiving his revelations from the angel Gabriel and Allah in a mountain cave.
There are also parallels with Eve receiving the forbidden fruit from the serpent of Eden; the Sumerian goddess Inanna receiving the "Meh"/Law from the god Enki; the Mesopotamian myth of the hero Adapa receiving wisdom from the god Enki; the Egyptian goddess Isis receiving the secret name of the sun god Ra; the Egyptian god Thoth receiving his wisdom from the sun god Ra; Delilah receiving the hair from Samson; and King Solomon receiving wisdom from Yahweh.
Because that's exactly what they were. Jinn.

Islam: Pagans do spells, as do we, but the power of the spell lies in Allah.

Problem is that the pre-Christian celts sources are archeological evidences. Roman word cannot be taken as evidence as you know they were considered as barbarians. Hence we know the mythology, some parts of theirs tradition and practises like druids but more or less it is still an ambiguous subject. Note: I am not an expert, please feel free to correct me
You're talking of the religions that were almost Nordic Asatru Religion, which was very similar to Sanatan Dharm (Hinduism) from India.
But evolved into more Shamanistic Nature worshipping. The Northern Germanic peoples worshiped Wottan as the Creator and Dunar as the protector and rain God.
Celts from France to Scotland Ireland worshipped Spirit gods like Rhionnan as the goddess of fertility, Lugh as the Guardian of the forests and War God., Cerrunos as the God of Wine etc.

The similarities for comparison are rich in this presentation. Such a useful project, thank you all for your contributions.
The exorcism of ghosts in Chinese and Tibetan traditions sounds the same. “Ashipu” seems interesting, and I wonder what kind of literal meaning can be derived rather than merely identifying the social position. I’m wondering what link it might have to Assur, thus Æsir in Etruscan and Norse as gods. Snorri recognizes that Diar are the priests, like Di as Chinese emperors. Di is also tied to Tyr/Tiw/Dios, deriving from Dingir as God form or energy surrounding divine presence.
An/Anu, seems tied to Ansuz as Holy Spirit as Tiwaz is to Father Sky God form (an illusive formless consistency that is Yang incarnated in absolute subtlety). This can also be tied to Dingir in phonetic contexts in cuneiform. Therefore, the Deva/Asura schism in Hindu/Iranian cultures might be reconsidered in light of Abrahamic aversion to idolatry. This aversion has a context where in the Mesopotamian imperial complex power was invested in idols…who owned the idols owned the temple wealth accumulation. When your idol cannot be stolen, neither can your wealth be removed for long.
I also wonder about the Æsir/Vanir relationship being like Gods and Dæmons, in that Æsir are divine spirits of the minds and heavens, whereas Vanir (wagons) are more related to material realms. These beings in material realms are still spiritual but can manifest with more interest in human endeavors, therefore “closer” to humans than the gods. Of course, this is from where I think saint cults evolved.

This is all news to me and it deserves more study. I don't have a lot of time for study but I can learn some of what is in this video..Very interesting..
But Pazuzu is perhaps a protective symbol in The Exorcist. The real enemy, as usual, is the mother complex. Father Dameon, Father Karis and Regan are all dealing with mother issues. Regan is a young girl about to go through puberty. Narcissistic mothers, the actress Chris MacNeil, is threatened when her daughter goes through puberty, like the mother in Carrie. In the end evil, the mother wins. She had control over her daughter. It appears to be love but it’s stifling
And have you noticed the mother wasn’t religious, like at all. Like she didn’t know what was going on with her daughter she sought medical and scientific professionals (as she should) before seeking out a catholic priest. It wasn’t until after that Regan and probably her as well that they became more into religion and religiosity. But she did seem like a responsible and caring parent but yes stifling
And even after the medical and scientific professionals couldn’t find an explanation she still didn’t think her daughter was possessed
She didn’t pray or anything
And when her daughter was playing with a oujia board she didn’t say to not play with it or tried to take it away from her. She actually took joy in it too she thought her daughter was just having fun. She seemed more curious than anything of it
It wasn’t like she proclaimed to be an atheist or said she believed in science and didn’t believe in such things. She seemed more of a free minded person, like her religious beliefs were left open or perhaps agnostic. But yeah she still sheltered her daughter

The Mesopotamian concept of Daimon sounds very similar to what the Efik (a Nigerian ethnic group) call Ndem. Ndem can be good or bad. Ndem are basically marine spirits but they can also be found in forests and ancient places. They are not limited to the Efik but the Igbo ethnic group as well. The Igbo have ndem such as Ekei Idem mmili, Uhammiri, Eze nwanyi etc.

Kinda off topic, but I feel like based on what I've read in the old testament that Jesus's messianic proficy has more similarities with zoroastrianism then the old testament. And the new testament in general seems to have more similarities with zoroastrianism then the old testament.
Yeah but old testament was already influenced by zoroastrianism, Persian emperor Cyrus was called Messiah in old testament too, some of concepts like archangels even traveled from zoroastrianism to christianity and then to judaism.

The notion of Daimons kinda reminded me that of Jinns in Islamic culture
Nuska was often used in tandem with Pazuzu to protect birthing mothers and young children.
In one religion it is said that there were Jinns before humans came to earth. Azel or the devil was a Jinn before becoming an Angel but he disobeyed God when told to bow down as God blew his spirit in Prophet Adam ... Azel or Azazil was kicked out of heaven and was sent down to earth.

Both Muhammad & Moses enabled their followers to conquer Palestine. Him you shall hear, I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.' Deuteronomy 18:15, 18 predicted prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), the descendants of Ishmael, the Arabs..
Since "from your midst" does not appear in either the ancient Greek Old Testament (the Septuagint) or the Samaritan Pentateuch, the original text must state the prophet (Muhammad ﷺ) would come from the relatives of the Israelites, the descendants of Ishmael, the Arabs.
GOD of Bible said in 📖 Duetornomy 18:20 that false prophet from their nearby brother tribe (the Arabs) must die without fulfilling the prophecies of duetornomy 18:18 as well as Isaiah 42.
GOD of Bible also informed us that the true prophet (Muhammad ﷺ) from their nearby brother tribe (the Arabs) would talk about the same GOD of Moses and fulfill prophecies of duetornomy 18:18 as well as Isaiah 42.
The prophet spoken (in Deuteronomy 18:15-22) of was not to come from among the Jews themselves, but from among their brothers, i.e. the Ishmaelites. Muhammad (ﷺ), a descendant of Ishmael, is indeed this prophet.
📖 Deuteronomy 18:20 But any prophet who falsely claims to speak in my name or who speaks in the name of another god must die.’

Our Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) passed all the above conditions stated by TRUE GOD of Bible in Deuteronomy 18:18-22 for identifying the true prophet.
Also, one notices from the Gospel of John that the Jews were waiting for the fulfillment of three distinct prophecies. The first was the coming of Christ. The second was the coming of Elijah. The third was the coming of the Prophet.
This is obvious from the three questions that were posed to John the Baptist: “Now this was John’s testimony, when the Jews of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Christ.” They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.” (📖 John 1:19-21)
If we look in a Bible with cross-references, we will find in the marginal notes where the words “the Prophet” occur in John 1:21, that these words refer to the prophecy of
📖 Deuteronomy 18:15 and 18:18. We conclude from this that Jesus Christ is not the prophet mentioned in Deuteronomy 18:18.
From the brothers of the Israelites:
Abraham had two sons, Ishmael and Isaac (Genesis 21). Ishmael became the grandfather of the Arab nation, and Isaac became the grandfather of the Jewish nation.
The prophet spoken (in Deuteronomy 18:15-22) of was not to come from among the Jews themselves, but from among their brothers, i.e. the Ishmaelites. Muhammad, a descendant of Ishmael, is indeed this prophet.
Also, Isaiah 42:1-13 speaks of the servant of GOD (abd - ullah), His “chosen one” (Mustafa) in whom I delight (Habibullah’) and “messenger” who will bring down a law. “He will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth. In his law the islands will put their hope.” (Isaiah 42:4). see Isaiah 42:21 talks about magnified laws (Al-Quran,Shariah.)
Also Isaiah 42 Verse 11, connects that awaited one with the descendants of Kedar. Who is Kedar? According to Genesis 25:13, Kedar was the second son of Ishmael,the grandfather of the Arab nation, the ancestor of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).
One of the earliest biographies of the Prophet Muhammad, Tabaqat Ibn Sa’d (d. 845 CE), documents one of the chains of genealogy, which confirms that the Prophet was a direct descendant of Ishmael through his second son Kedar.
Hayden’s Bible dictionary states: “Mohammad is said to have been of the Bene-Kedar [sons of Kedar]” [A Bible Dictionary, Hayden Series, edited by Rev. Charles Boutell, p. 386].
Interesting that we have many of the exact same demons in western Iran. Growing up in Hamedan, pregnant women couldn’t walk out by themselves after a certain period of the day because of the “Lamashto” demon you referred to.

I was always someone who used to make fun of such topics and was highly skeptical.
That is… until I experienced a very real haunting at a friend’s farmhouse years ago.
To this day I’m still seeking answers. I have no doubts that ill intentioned things exist, such as “Lamashtu.”
There are some uncanny videos here on TH-cam, with security cameras, showing babies being dragged and attacked. There’s even one bizarre video of what looks like claws creeping their way in between the gates of the crib.
Who knows what this all is? But whatever it is… It seems it has been going on for a long, long time.
