I really appreciate the information here, and I got a new idea that I haven’t heard about before in regards of cactus leave and what to do with it with Arowana fish. Can I get more details of oit please.. I Hav a super-red Arowana and trying to get it to desired coloration. And in need of more informations and tips. Thank you, And keep up the great work, 👍🏼
Hi Serene. I have not heard about cactus leave before. My guess is that it is used as a substitute for aloe vera. In which case I would stick to aloe vera as it has been studied and shown to increase slime coat in fishes. I wouldn't feel the need to experiment for something "better" as it does not actually improves colors but instead protects the fish which aloe vera does. Hope this helps.
I listen to music with my normal Hifi, my friend started telling me about tune and spikes on speakers... when I rare arowana, this guys talks about tanning and grooming... it’s so very deep I as a layman don’t understand... these people are into it and they have their own world... just my opinion
Some additional points - for stress coat use seachem safe powder, adds stress coat and concentrated, cost effective. And about ph, stability is more important than having a specific ph. Stick to whatever your tap water is. IMO aloe Vera sounds harmless and rather good so I would try that without fear
This was a great video. Your friend has a lot of knowledge. However although he speaks good English I'm having real trouble understanding what he is actually saying.
Bro this is very good information. I’m just starting to rare Arowana. So I really need to learn. Ur friend speak very good English but then it is better for me hands on. If only I can get his phone no then will be much helpful for me. Thank you the video is very good. Keep up the good job bro.
Hi bro ..I have a redy arowana ..I am looking for a tanning light .. I'm new here so.wat advice can u give and wat light do u recommend for red arowana tanning ...hope to.hear from you ..thanks.
No pH isnt vital for tanning. So long it is not extreme that your arowana doesnt like it and of course the more comfortable you can make your arowana the better.
@@SGBeardedAquarist thanks bro. I just got my super red arowana and im little concern on my pH which is 8. Pls check my video to see my arowana. Thanks alot.
That is actually a valid point that didnt cross my mind! Hmm I'm thinking the amount of uvb emitted during intensive tanning with PL lights would ensure a somewhat decent amount is passing through the glass. Especially given their high output and how close it is to the glass. Thinking along these lines maybe its better to get thinner glass or acrylic for arowana tanning.
@@SGBeardedAquarist I do not think that opting for a thinner glass would be a practical option given the tanks huge dimensions. I keep a lot of reptiles ( mostly desert reptiles) so I use 14% HO T5 for their enclosures. While building an enclosure I considered keeping the UVB on top of the enclosure instead of placing it inside, since It would look clean and possibly open some space too BUT here's the problem, I used a radiometer to test the UVB output through the glass top and it was close to none, a 14% UVB HO was completely filtered by the glass! So, If side tanning is required I think a submersible tube would be better but I do not know how it will affect their vision.
@yato gami yes the glass does block a certain amount of concentration of uvb and uva , however if the fish is expose to too much direct light it will affect its eyes, it goes the same as submersible lights, what we must understand this is a 24 hrs process unlike in the wild the fish can avoid the rays by going into deeper waters , for tanning of fishes we can only do soo much, as per why i didnt use sub lights is because PL lights currently do not have a sub version hope this helps
Hey Sherwin. I highly recommend you check out this follow up Q&A I did with marcus. Not only did he answer your question but there are many other nuggets of information you'll enjoy!

The only way that I know of to repair drop eye is through surgical procedure. Heard its relatively straight forward so you maybe you can find someone who is capable of doing it (that you trust of course).
Seems impossible to me. Albinos are characterized by the lack of pigmentation and grooming is all about enhancing pigments. The colour of your Albino is likely to do with genetics.
This is just scratching the surface, the true master groomers are actually people from the fish trade and most methods used are sadly confidential. The public will never know what is done to competition grade fish
Personally I woukd start tanning when the Arowana is around 6-7 inches. Anything before that tanning will be stressing the small fish with little benefit as the color pigments are probably not even developed yet.
Nice and informative video. I have a question, does blue or black background colour has any influence on aro base colour development? tq SG Brearded Aquarist and Marcus.
Yes sir it does make a difference, white will build shine in turns the color intensity will fade, blue is neutral it neithers increase or decrease color tone, black is for intense color
Hi guys. Sorry this question seems off topic here. Does aquarium lights have negative impact on beneficial bacteria? For a top glass filter application. Does it need to be complete darkness or low lights environment for beneficial bacteria to grow and generate?
But shouldnt a "full spectrum" LED have a hard tanning effect like the bulbs though? I thought the only difference is that the bulbs generate more heat and consume more electricity compared to LED🤷♂️
Spectrum is just the visible colours. It is not an indication of uv rays. It may produce some uva/uvb but it'll usually be less than flouracent lights.

I would like to know about aloe vera use for arowana. Do I have to do 100% water change after 24 hrs from application of aloe vera?
Hi there i got a 8 inch bluebase highback
Can i tan it?
What is best food for arowana specially for Asian Arrowana
Does tanning work through Glass?
Where can I buy your tanning light brother
UVB rays cannot pass through glass.
As for uva rays..there are specific uva led emitters in the market by reputable manufacturers.
Tanning light should 6000k or 10000k or above.. Is it the temperature of water increases
Well i would like to ask what quantity of aloe vera should be added and the way,
I really appreciate your efforts to bring out such informations.
Does white tank really help to boost shine in crossback?
I believe it does. Never actually done it myself but I've spoken to many Arowanas keepers and researched online. It seems to be undisputed.

White tank treatment is more for the shine while tanning is more for the saturation of the colours. Hope this helps!
