The two of you summed up all of my feelings toward the film perfectly. As for the ending, as much as I dislike it, the thing that upsets me the most about it is that it is already written out perfectly at the end of Fleming's You Only Live Twice.
Completely agree with you Gents on NTTD. So gut wrenching and took me weeks to get over. Finally accepting it and further to Dutch Bond Fan's thoughts, I treat SPECTRE and NTTD either as James Bond's last ever missions and as the last movies to any that follow now, or as a computer game where sometimes you play and complete the game with some great levels throughout, but sometimes you play it and end up dying. You still complete the great levels and you're still James Bond, but on this occasion, you died.
No Time To Die had some of the greatest Bond action sequences ever filmed. The opening was hands-down my favorite pre-credit sequence of any Bond movie. With that said, the ending was unnecessary, and I think if they had shown Bond escape at the last minute before the missiles hit (and skipped the virus infection scene), then have Bond, Madeleine and their daughter back in Jamaica at the end of the movie, No Time To Die would be considered one of the better James Bond films.
The ending is a gut-punch, but it's supposed to be. Do we think the filmmakers would kill Bond not knowing that's how the audience would feel? That's what they were going for. I really like the film. I like that we saw a new side to Bond with him definitely maturing and becoming a dad, especially in the context that this was going to be Craig's last film, it was the right time to do new angles like that with the character. I liked that he didn't feel like the same character as we saw in Casino Royale, because he shouldn't, he should have grown and matured over the past 15 or so years. I also liked that there was a little more Daniel Craig in the performance, because he earned it. He really defined James Bond in a way that no one has other than Sean Connery. This was just as much a goodbye to Daniel Craig was it was James Bond.
Oh, come on. Just because it's supposed to be a gut punch does NOT make it good! That is NOT the character! It's a bad film and, worse, an offensive experience for Bond fans. It's actually pretty insulting and never should have been made.
@@johnzamparelli9651 I never said that it wasn't good though, I do think it's good. And you're really over-reacting. I'm sorry if you love this character and you didn't end up getting a movie you wanted, but this recent trend of fanboys getting offended and feeling insulted by movies you don't like, and justifying it as being a huge fan is cringe and embarrassing. The people involved worked their asses off for years out of love for this character to give you a movie you enjoyed, but it didn't end up working for you. Just leave it at that, there is no need to take it personally.
Hi Luke, sorry only just realised, I've been a fan of your channel since it started but forgot to subscribe Hahaha, sorry, new subscriber, love the seamaster on a black leather strap,I was eighteen when Goldeneye came out and I bought the watch that afternoon and wore it on the opening night of Goldeneye,a day later I put my seamaster on a black leather strap cause that's how pierce wears it in the pre credit scene and Sean bean wears it through the film and for me I prefer it looks beautiful, love the video but I completely disagree I love no time to die ,him coming back at the end would have been so clichéd but that's what makes bond fans brilliant we all have our favourites,I mean I'm a lone a view to a kill fan hahaha.
It’s interesting how much this film has divided fans. I am not opposed to the death, but more to the weak villain and clunky nano bot story. Leaving the cinema I was devastated. But now, I have rewatched it several times …sometimes only up to just after Cuba because of the run time… the action is great, the cinematography beautiful and every actor brings their a-game to it. In a world where Marvel continuity is everywhere, recasting would have been really difficult without Craig’s bond fully ending his arc.
I've never understood people's confusion that Daniel Craig's Bond having it's own arch. All those people who were saying "he's dead, you can't make any more films". Well Joker died in 1989 but he managed to appear in The Dark Knight didnt he? Did people not notice that bond and blofeld were not brothers in the Connery and Lazenby era. I thought it was clear that the Craig Bonds were their own thing.
You guys argue: "Who would want to be after NTTD? All the other films follow a formula that makes you want to be this guy afterwards?" I'd also argue "Who would also want to be Bond after OHMSS?" I still feel for Lazenby's Bond, as his version never had the satisfaction of getting revenge on both Blofeld and Bunt.
Overall I like the film and can find the positives in the direction they went. However I think would have been better if they had ended with Bond surviving and the film ending on a more joyful note. I think after the covid and the pandemic and the long miserable time that was, we the world as whole needed No Time to Die to pick us up, give us a good time and give us back some positivity. So really could have done with a more joyful ending. Right now a year on I think the ending has perhaps not aged well, but will be interesting to see how opinions change a decade or two from now. Like the ending to Her Majesty's Secret Service the ending at the time was not received well, but now I would argue is now thought on more favourably.
Funny, I didn't anticipate him resurrecting. Mainly because he still had the poison in his system. I left angry - it was bizarre. Now I have softened on it. Like Spectre, it has some amazing scenes, but overall I would watch Quantum before either of those two.
I watched it again last week. Visually it's stunning, but to me it feels rushed and cluttered. Biggest let down is Safin. There's a bit on how he first met Madeline and him popping back up. No real depth of his fury towards Spectre. Also bugs me that Safin didn't age over the 20years or so since first meeting Madeline to present day.
I think Spectre should've surrounded the island. Then Safin pulls a Mayday and sacrifices himself to save Matilda. He obviously has a thing where he cares about kids for having such a crappy childhood. Maybe Blofeld injects Bond (he is more into the whole ruin his relationship thing), and Safin's dying breath gives Bond directions to a cure and a hidden underground tunnel off the island. Make it so Bond may have died or may have gotten off just in time, but he doesn't give up.
Haha you guys make me laugh - Well David if want to say you have me back - I will defend the movie and agree with comments that it had to end - sorry. And I am hard core - is it’s the best no but not as bad as you guys said … but you are funny during the video ( the shakes ?) lol - also I agree each actors is his own arc with Dutch
Bring Kali-Ma guy from Temple of Doom in for the next Bond Villain. Is that dude still alive? But seriously, NTTD is the gut punch that won't heal. I still don't understand why EON would do that after claiming the fans matter. If it was Craig's ultimatum, they should have let him go in '15.
Tiffany case (Audience): "You just killed James Bond!", Eon productions: "Is that who it was?" The ending is more like if somebody punched you in the gut and you feel nothing. James Bond died, why don't I care?
Terrific conversation. I just don’t understand why some like it. To me the most enjoyable portion is pre titles Matera. If I watch any of it, I tend to watch that then turn off. While the Cuba sequence is certainly fun, it very much feels tacked on and out of place. Basically I don’t need to see Felix die, don’t need to see Blofeld (even a poor Blofeld) die and most definitely have no desire to see Bond die. Hoping for more fun and less morose in the next iteration.
NTTD is a film of two halves for me. I am really on board with the first half - I like the cold open, the Matera stuff, the assault on the lab is really cool, chilling with Bond and Felix in Jamaica, and the Cuba sequence is an all time Bond great. The moment the film comes thundering to a halt for me is when Madeline is reintroduced. And it just doesnt pick up from there. The villain’s plot is nonsense and it doesnt make sense in the way it is presented in the film, and yeah, I cant say I’m a fan of the ending. It just does nothing for me and thats arguably worse... I dont care that they killed him cause the way they did it was really poor. I really hope EoN go back to the drawing board now and remember what makes Bond, well Bond, and start to deliver that again going forward.
yeah as soon as Felix died, the pacing grinded to a halt. Before that it was fun, but still didn't make any sense. I am confused as to what Blofeld's plan is in Matera? Did he purposefully make the bomb weak and have his men fire at bond and purposefully miss just so he could ruin his relationship? And why would the eye ball man fire at Maddeleine if she was allegedly in on it? The Paloma scene is so weird, Its like somebody cut out 10 minutes from a better movie and spliced it in.
After leaving the theatre it felt like a sucker punch. What a disappointing way to end Craig’s otherwise outstanding reign as Bond. Spot on David….clearly the worst Bond villain of any film. Very weak and cartoonish I thought. Cheers
