Aside from editing and cgi, at the time this came out, there were stories wriiten about the highway for the chase. They built a 1.5 mile stretch of highway on an old naval base for filming.

For me Matrix Reloaded is the best of the entire franchise because this is definitively when they showed us the world building of the lore in addition to the brilliant idea of bringing back Agent Smith as a super-virus making him more rogue within the system as opposed to being trapped within the system rules.
On top of that, Agent Smith....a definitive program....was able to find a way to break (or rather sneak) INTO THE REAL WORLD.
And add that to the philosophy added regarding the power of choice vs predestination.
What i also particularly loved about Reloaded is that it allowed more characters to shine ....and it did so again in Revolutions.... We got to SEE why Morpheus is the leader of the rebellion outside.
We got to see other programs outside of just Oracle and Agent Smith .... including how and why they exist and are different.
In this movie, Remember when the Neo meets the normal people in Zion who view him as a savior.... Trinity told Neo, its ok, they need you.... Neo responded (paraphrasing) But i need u.....which i believe is Neo saying Trinity is his fuel, his reason to keep going.

for me, the most significant part of this movie was the discovery of the fact that this was the 6th iteration of the matrix. This movie gives you more background as to why the world is the way it is and why Zion, the One, and even why certain characters such as the Merovingian and the "ghost brothers" exist. I would consider everything else to be filler that was used to supplement, what is believe, is the main focus of the movie.

Persephone in mythology is Hades wife, and resents him. The Frenchman, and those who serve him are remnants of an older version of the matrix. The ghost twins, the vampires, all relics of the Matrix.

When the trailer for this movie came out… it blew audience’s fkin minds. I remember being in the theatre and nobody even cared about the movie that we paid to watch, all my friends and I could do was talk about was The Matrix Reloaded and when we could see it. This was 2003, so there was no TH-cam. No social media. Seeing a trailer for a film was an experience and always a surprise.

This is what we in my generation is called backstory and lore. This generation is so quick to complain when a film isn't Simplified and easily explained that some call it filler. Of course the CG isn't as easily digestible as it is now it's called advanced technology and looking back at it now you can see it's flaws but at the time it was a marvel.20-25 years from now people are going to be looking at the tech in 2024 and laughing at what you call great CGI and tech. People need to remember that when watching something older that was made 20 years or longer and stop saying that something is bad because it doesn't match today advanced way of telling stories

    • @Mr.DaddyDre

THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!! We come from a generation where we enjoyed movies for what they were. People nowadays were born in the 2000's so Avatar, the MCU, and John Wick were made when they were 10 or 12 years old. They grew up with great films! Now think they can be the "voice of reason" in films that were made 20 years ago. We never watched a film saying 20 "but why" comments, we LISTENED and knew if we paid attention...we'll get the answer.
I love the Vasquez's though, always will. But unfortunately the kids are part of the new generation where judging is the focal point of how they look at anything.

To be fair, the cgi was 💩back when the 2nd film dropped too, its just worse now. I remember cuz i supported the first film 5 times in theater and the 2nd 2 or 3 times. The first film will always be the superior not for just better choices of cinematography or even the script but for the meta philosophies of simulation theory introduced masterfully. I still like the 2nd one though its just the beginning of the end even though theres good beats in the 3rd film.

@@ghostmkc4045 I believe the CGI quality of the Burly Brawl (many smiths courtyard fight) scene was cutting edge for 2003. This is because it not only took 27 days in the studio to motion-capture the fight scene, but to render each CGI frame, on the most advanced computer of the day, took weeks of processing time. A farm of computers were used to expedite the process. That one fight scene cost $40 million, in 2003 money.
So, most likely, cutting edge for 2003.

matrix reality 1: heaven on earth - humans rejected it - seraph was their guardian angel.
matrix reality 2: hell on earth - humans rejected it. - The Merovingian ruled with his monsters.
matrix reality 3: good mix of heaven & hell, created & guided by the oracle.
    - oracle instructs the creations of neos & neas, with each version stronger than the previous.
    - neo 6.0 is mr. anderson, who is the 1st to ever break the cycle because he fell 100% in love with a single individual, trinity, instead of equally loving everyone.
This is what caused him to make "the choice" that surprised the oracle & architect.

It was wonderful watching it with you. As stated, it is not finished. So many ways to view this, as a first time watching I recommend to view it as follows: the first movie is the myth, this second one was that deconstruction and then loss of faith, ending in the dark night of the soul. Not to ruin the 3rd, as it stands nothing has been fixed, but apparently something has changed. In other words, we're now in new territory beyond the promise of the first one. It becomes a hard look into your faith and the expectations we carried to that of what may actually be, not what others expect or want from you. A great trilogy for philosophy, and good choice about mentioning the mustard seed parable. Very appropriate.

You're massively overstating the nature of the film. The Matrix is primarily a gnostic movie, so it isn't doing anything sophisticated. It's just teaching gnosticism. There is no deconstruction of myth because the gnostic christ is what's being taught.

The French guy & his people were programs from a previous version of the Matrix, creatures like werewolves & hence the silver bullets...they managed to survive into the current version of the Matrix thanks to the keymaker i think.
The architect is supposed to be the polar opposite of the Oracle & yes they r programs themselves but they r programmed to build & run the Matrix respectively.
Neo is the chosen 1, which is his plot armour...btw zion didn't get destroyed, the ship that had smith got destroyed & he was rescued by the other ship.

  • @alexmoreira876

So, in the conversation with the Oracle, she actually explains what those twins are (and The Merovingian's minions as well): she said, every time you see something like a Vampire, Ghost, Werewolf, Aliens... they are programs doing something they aren't supposed to be doing. In the first movie, Smith tells Morpheus the second version of The Matrix was filled with horror, war and terrible things. The twins are actually ghosts, programs from this version of The Matrix (The Merovingian and his minions are all rogue/exiled programs who refused being deleted in previous updates of the The Matrix). One of the guys Persephone shoots in the head is either a vampire or werewolf. She even uses a silver bullet. They are all older programs from previous versions of The Matrix who are hiding inside the present version.
I really love this one, it's my favorite bevause it shows much more of the Matrix itself and its lore.

The Merovingian was never human, it was always a program so it could never be one of the "one's" or Neo's as it were. He was created in either the very first Matrix or shortly after since the Oracle calls him one of the oldest of "us" as she means program.

    • @blanktrigger8863
      @blanktrigger8863 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@LordLOC Yes. The theory based on the evidence is that after humans rejected the first paradise Matrix, the Architect polarized and created a Matrix full of monsters. The Merovingian was the overseer of the monsters and that's why his personal task force has mythical properties (the twins are likely ghosts, and the one group that they shoot with silver bullets, if I'm remembering right, would be werewolves): some of the monsters escaped with him to serve him as a rogue force.

Ok. So Neo is an anomaly in Matrix. Imagine a gamer who can use hacks and glitches of a game to speedrun it. In this movie, Neo has become so powerful in Matrix that he literally restarted the code of a co-op player, 'Trinity'. That's how she respawned in Matrix.
BUT, the power of Neo is growing in real life too now. In the end, He can feel the machines and shut them down IN REAL WORLD. So NEO has now become a real nuisance for the machines. On the other hand Agent Smith reached in real world. Remember this part when you watch the 3rd movie.
The thing is that to understand everything about Matrix you need to watch Animatrix as well. ALSO, another part of the story of Matrix Reloaded happens in the video game 'Enter the Matrix'. Both of these and 3 of the movies will help understand the story/lore of Matrix world fully.

Ya'll couldn't figoure out how brilliant this story is by the first two installments? You think people were thinking , after watching The Empire Strikes Back, "I guess we'll have to wait and see the third film before we know if the story is good or not.? Heck no! We knew it was a brilliant story watching Star Wars! The second film is not just brilliant in the editing and action sequences, the STORY is phenomenal!
The idea that AI concluded that the anomaly was always going to happen, so it might as well plan for it and in that way, whenever a certain amount of humans wake up, the "One program is set in motion that concludes with the new "Neo" and his woman becoming the first Adam and Eve that begins the human population all over again. That is BRILLIANT.
And yet, Neo did not choose to be the "Adam" in that situation. His purpose was ro realize that he didn't have to make the same choice that all other Neos before him didn't choose, that was the POINT! He chose his own personal love for Trinity. This is the point you all seem to have missed in Neo's story, as it pertains to character development, of which their is a clearly defined arc of character evolution through all three films.

Thanks for your comment; so well thought out. Not sure if you listened to the entirety of our commentary but I (Jose Miguel) make mention, toward the end of our video, that at the end, what mattered most to Neo was his LOVE for Trinity. The thing to lookout for with our videos is how we (my wife and I) allow our kids to have a genuine reaction to the content we share with them and then we guide them as best we can so we can all land at a clearer and deeper understanding together. The unexpected joy has been having comments like yours which illuminate the themes and cinematic elements that we may have incomplete or have missed. Overall, this space is meant to allow us to enjoy this content together so truly, thank you for being an active participant in this lovely process.

If you want, you can shit your brain off when watching this action movie and not pay attention to any plot or deeper meanings and GOD himself could tell you that you still had a greater appreciation for this film for other reasons than this commenter had even though he understood its oh so deep meanings.

I'm always surprised by people's feelings about the second matrix movie. For me, the matrix trilogy resembles a lot the original Starwars trilogy in it's structure. In the first movie, you are really just a small side quest to develop the main character, and in the second movie you realized that the main character is just a small part of a much larger world of integral groups all vying and influencing the world according to their own narrative. Just like Empire Strikes back, the second movie makes you realize that being the one is not an end all be all for the problem at hand. Like we learned in the first one, Neo was dreaming life away, the real world is not what was expected. To think that something like 10 generations of humans probably lived underground, always being hunted and eventually destroyed, five times was the "real world" population annihilated, and living for 10+ generations detached from the matrix, a new culture has developed by this point. You learned that just like "unplugged" humans, you have rogue sentients inside the matrix not following "the rules". Some of them making insane choices because they are driven by emotions of love. Like Persephone who is so driven by a sense of lost love that she almost destroy everything around her just to feel it again. That you have a hierarchy inside the matrix trying to neatly control everything "the architect/agents", that you have a hierarchy outside the matrix trying to neatly control their world "the army/government" of the real world. That everyone on all sides is pushing their own agenda, and that even with all this "control" and known powers "the one, the oracle, the architect, agents, rogue sentients, etc..." novel things can still happen that are unexpected "Agent Smiths" virus or bots or whatever he is, and that just like Neo when he flexes or launches into flight, the matrix bends around him and around agent smiths, essentially as if the matrix were having a hard time rendering them in the matrix world, the whole thing is going haywire with Neo affecting the machine world from the real world (stopping squiddies at the end), and agent smith affecting the real world from the machine world (going into bane and wreaking havoc), the walls between realities melting away... I reiterate my claim that just like Empire Strikes back, Matrix Reloaded is still my favorite. To be concluded... (the Animatrix is a must if you love delving into world building aspects)

Programs that go rogue are seen as vampires, ghosts, werewolf’s etc. that’s why the Frenchman’s girlfriend had to use silver bullets.
Neo went inside agent Smith so we know he can invade programs. Trinity’s projection in the matrix, is a program, so he can go inside and pump her heart.
There’s a lot to take in when watching this one, but it isn’t as mixed up as you guys seemed to think it was.

The Architect presents The One with a false choice (a 'choice' between 'survival' and 'extinction' of the entire human species, which is obviously no choice at all) - as the ultimate means of controlling the 'anomaly' represented by The One.

  • @daveaglasgow

You really learn about the working of the matrix that the people have never seen, the matrix is so old that many of the characters you meet here have broken away from the programming and living a life in the matrix, they have nothing else to do, as they said, it is all a game, and you also meet some more integral parts of the program, like the key maker and the architect. Her purpose has nothing to do with the matrix, that is the point, the matrix is a computer program, but the humans change the outcome of the matrix by their own actions. Watching the final one gives you some more answers. Really to complain that a three part movie has a second part that doesn't end the story is a bit silly, do you complain about the Lord of the rings the 2 towers or any Star Trek movie. It is highly disputed who the one is, is it neo or agent Smith, by the end you will understand that question. Neo could be the one, (perhaps in another life) well he died and came back to life didn't he. Without the action in this movie, people would have wondered what the point of the movie is, because it needs to be shown what the matrix is and how the enemy has all these skills that need to be defended against.

I have to wonder if you were high when you wrote this, because that question was a product of not paying attention. Neo couldn't choose to stay there because the ultimate consequence of refusing to upload himself was the death of the humans who escaped the Matrix. So if he stays, he just ends up losing everybody.

    • @scratchmonkey
      @scratchmonkey 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@blanktrigger8863 For all we know the architect was presenting a false dichotomy/binary and we/Neo have zero reason to believe it to be anything more than an illusion of power with some T.V. screens.
"Neo couldn't choose to stay there because the ultimate consequence of refusing to upload himself was the death of the humans who escaped the Matrix."
Maybe it would have resulted in the death of both but that is irrelevant to the point. You seem to be stuck in the material with your premise despite the fact this mere immaterial scene shatters that very idea which again, is why it's so profound for a young zoomer to theorize what few millennials could in the late 90's.
Imagine you holding a gun and someone tells you they will shoot your child unless you say the word "cheese". Wouldn't you just shoot them while ignoring the false duality they've presented? You are initially presuming this architect is "god" because he can flick a pen and change a video presentation and is that not a fallacy? Go ahead and resort to weed smoking ad-homs all you want but your rebuttal/retort/counterpoint only has value if it is truly a rebuttal/retort/counterpoint...I'll wait...

The first movie is an alagory of birth, and discovering you're alive.
The second movie is a metaphor of living your life. It encompasses all the experiences and emotions that cause the perception that "life is short."
Lastly, the conclusion of the trilogy is the realization of the end of your life. There is the completion of the journey, losing loved ones, and passing on to the realm of God.
    (PLEASE DON'T WATCH THE 4th MOVIE !!!! It's horrible !!!!!)

I just watched your "reaction" to The Matrix and I liked your take on it ....
    Finally an intelligent "reaction" ;-)
So I decided to watch your take on this one next ...
I saw all of them in theatre when they came out.
After the first one most people reacted like you - me included: it left you thinking a lot.
After this one a lot were disappointed, like you here too ;-)
You go very deep and try to find a theological interpretation to it - I get it and I agree.
    However, I think it's more real ...
I left the theatre after this one with one question:
    - HOW was Neo able to take down the sentinels in the "real world"?
The ending here turned everything you believed to have figured out after the first one up side down!
THE "REAL WORLD" ... IS ... PART OF THE MATRIX! ;-)
In other words, it is ... CONTROLED OPPOSITION!
I think most people try to find a deeper meaning in this, religion, AI ...
I think the metaphor is much simpler ... much into one's face.
    "The Matrix" is everywhere ...
NOW! ;-) (and back then too, actually ... always)
It draws lines in the sand suggesting that you have to, meanwhile even forcing you to pick a side ...
Climate Change, Trump, Covid, Ukraine, Gaza, men, women, Christians, Muslims, East, West, Left, Right, Liberal, Conservative ... everything is black and white, while your main preoccupation is to stay alive through being taken care of by some "Human Resource" department sucking out your "energy", living in fear of not getting "cancelled" while following the "rule based world order" or turning yourself into a "fighter".
    WHY?
    What for?
Given what's going on now in the world, the question most people ask - and listening to you, I'd say you too :-) - is:
WHO is the "Architect" of all this BS going on?
Or do you believe that all this is ... coincidence?
WHY the feminist brainwashing of women promising them that they can "have it all" if they just start fighting their "oppressor", apparently men, and strive hard to get plugged in to the "system"?
WHY the government interference with "love" and the NAZI-fication of family(values)?
WHO will benefit from a "restart" after an Atomic WW3, which "they" are so desperately trying to provoke by poking Russia, Iran and China with every chance "they" get?
I suggest you listen carefully to the Architect in the movie a few more times ;-)
This movie has indeed the problems you point out ...
... but I think the turning in the end wouldn't have worked out otherwise!
You think you're "free" if you've got no choice but either to join the "Mainstream" or to fight "the System"?
    You're not! ;-)
Finally on more point: think about Smith!
What happened to him in the first and what is he doing in this movie?
Is it so strange that he "uploaded" a copy of himself onto a "real brain"?
Understanding Smith is very important in the third movie!
    Anyway, good "reactions"!
PS: you could not connect to Neo after this one?
    WHY?
Neo was as confused after all what happened as you are ... ;-)

Self indulgent. But I loved it. That’s my take on Matrix Reloaded (Overloaded). The CGI was overused and reminded me of a video game. But I liked the addition to the lore. The rogue programs that didn’t get destroyed with each reset of The Matrix. The Twins were my favorite. Loved how they powered up Morpheus. But they should have cut down the highway scene and reduced the use of CGI there. Watch Animatrix when you get the chance. Also, off topic but watch Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic cinematics. Here's where the Wachowskis failed the Matrix sequels: the thing that people absolutely loved about the first Matrix movie is that it is very heavy on philosophy with the unique and groundbreaking action 100% supporting the story. The first Matrix dealt with the philosophies of reality, realization, freedom and overcoming obstacles especially self-doubt.
The second movie definitely had one or two philosophical points that it made by the Merovingian ("why is the only source of power," and "choice is an illusion..." and his "cause and effect" dissertation) but they were not the foundation of the story, nor prominent in any way shape or form. I think people had a hard time recognizing who various characters are. For instance, Serif who was guarding the Oracle and who fought Neo when they first met, was an anti-virus program. Hence his statement to Neo, "you don't truly know someone until you fight them." And of course, Smith (no longer Agent Smith) had become an actual virus, something he loathed in the first movie we learned while he was interrogating Morpheus. The Matrix: Reloaded was more about the visuals than any plot points.
The third movie, The Matrix: Revolutions was all visuals with maybe one philosophical point near the end during the final fight sequence. Philosophical issues should have shared the A-plotline with the goal of ending the matrix and freeing the people from it in all three movies. They had people with names like Ghost and Deadbolt that should have had some sort of abilities reflecting their names. I actually really enjoyed all three movies but only the first one was peak storytelling where the visuals only enhanced the story rather than being its foundation. Audiences really wanted the philosophical foundation, as there have only been two movies I have ever seen where the audience was 1000% quiet from beginning to end because they wanted to hear everything that was being said: Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, and The Matrix: Reloaded. I've been going to see movies in the theater since the 1970's.

This movie was written as a stand-alone movie, so when it became not just a hit but a phenomenon, sequels were going to happen. Some have found the sequels puzzling and not up to the standards of the first film since they weren't originally supposed to exist. One of the reasons the original Star Wars trilogy flows so smoothly is because George Lucas had written so much material that it had to be cut into parts. In terms of overall enjoyment, the Matrix trilogy is far better than many I've seen in the past.

Given how obviously gnostic the messaging is, I doubt that this is true. The first movie isn't much too easily confusable with Christianity to have ever been a standalone movie. It was most likely written that way to sucker folks into the more blatant gnosticism of the next two movies. The reason the next two are confusing is because they're trying to achieve a hermetic quality in their writing, not because the next two were unintended.
