I don’t know if it was intentional or not but the fact that you guys put this movie out on election day in the United States is so poetic. It’s not even funny. Good job boys.
Posting this on the 5th of November ws a perfect decision. Also “People Should Not Be Afraid Of Their Governments. Governments Should Be Afraid of their People.” is such a hard quote.
The U.K General Election was on the 4th July (Independence Day in America) this year. The U.S Election is on today 5th November (Guy Fawkes Day here in England).
The meaning behind having people that were already dead in the final scene was to enhance what she said about who V was. They weren't 'alive' per se, they were metaphorically alive.
Thezy where "alive" at the "part" of the Party, cause their actions, one way or another, contributed to the Outcome, either By their Actions or by their Believes and Ideas. They where "part" of the Revolution that overthrew a Dictatorship.
There was a great movie, that I'm killing myself for not remembering the name of, that does that too. It was about slavery and the KKK. A woman's husband died and their friend had to leave to because he was being targeted by the Klan. The two of them metaphorically showed up in the church at the end.
@@AshrafAnamwhile that would be a very interesting twist you also see Evey’s parents as they were the last time she saw them, it’s reasonable to assume they passed away.
As a story that gets frighteningly more relevant as time goes on, I really appreciate this movie. It's not just a blatant sociopolitical message, it's not just gratuitous violence against the government, and it's not even about V. As she says at the end, he's all of us. It's about an idea that people should be free, to do good or bad, to make mistakes, to choose for themselves. That, I think, is one of the most basic concepts humanity can ever rally behind.

How weird it is that our U.K General Election was on 4th July (American Independence Day) this year. Today the U.S Election is on 5th November (Guy Fawkes Night/ Bon Fire Night in England, U.K).
Original comic book was written by Alan Moore (Watchman) from 1982-1985 during the Reagan and Thatcher administrations. If you were around during that time period all of the story makes sense. It even makes sense today.
@@caseyh8386 I feel the biggest thing for me is that he's the one perpetrator that he genuinely forgave, which is especially heartbreaking because she wanted to die anyway. It proves that despite going through so much pain, V still hasn't lost his compassion. Even if his means are extreme, he's not a monster.
At the end, they show people who were killed by the government standing with the people who still remain. It really is more poignant and beautiful the more you see people showing up for those who have been killed by their governments, in our current time.

"Penny for the guy" is a tradition for Bonfire Night in the UK. The Guy is an effigy made of straw and dressed in clothes that is burned on the bonfire (possibly an effigy for Guy Fawkes or for the Pope depending on your politics/tradition). Children would make their own Guy and go around the streets with it asking for money before the bonfire- hence "penny for the Guy"
It is guy Fawkes that we burn on the bonfire sometimes there’s other effigy’s we did the conservatives in some places a few years ago and the pope has also been done a lot but the guy is guy Fawkes

Actors always want to make sure nothing covers their faces when they do performances so props to Weaving for making a whole movie with his face covered. Terrific performance.
I’ll never forget the feeling of seeing this film in theaters, holding my breath the last five minutes, and not wanting to blink as tears streamed down my face. The themes and ideas hold up in way I never would’ve imagined. Revisiting V for Vendetta back in 2020 and again now, you really appreciate the brilliance of the characters, the writing, and the performances especially from Hugo Weaving. Remember, remember! 🎉
It certainly is unsettling how much more relevant and on the nose the subject matter of this movie becomes as time goes on. This movie came out 18 yrs ago and it was shockingly relevant then. Right now though, it's basically a mirror reflecting current day issues and trust me when I say, it's reflecting a very very clear image of the world today.
I remember when this movie was released and it got some bad reviews and word of mouth and didn't do great box office, but I thought it was very well done and highly underrated. Glad to see that nearly 20 years later it still holds up and Reel Rejects also says it's underrated. Now I don't feel like I've been in a small cult of people who appreciated this movie for all these years.
I’m so happy you watched this film. Greg is so me, I got so emotional at that scene in the rain it’s amazing! As a UK viewer, this film is a staple watch.
Even more interesting is that John Hurt played the protagonist Winston Smith in "1984", a dystopian movie, where he was the one going against "Big Brother" and the totalitarian government, while in this one, he plays the totalitarian leader of Britain.
Here in Chile, a few years ago our (ex) president declared war on us. This movie is an amazing and a beautiful representation of what is anarchy. Thanks for the reaction! What a movie!
I was watching and this was the day I realized I went to high school with John and miss the guy!!! Groovy dude and I’m so stoked that I get to see him doing his thing! Seriously blew my mind!
An inch. It's small and it's fragile and it's the only thing in the world worth having. we must never lose it, or sell it, or give it away. We must never let them take it from us.
I also love that this movie came out sort of billing itself as a "teehee 2000s comic book movie" and sending the most "take down fascist governments" message to resonate across decades.
Good reaction boys! I always loved the lines in the opening, “But you cannot kiss an idea... cannot touch it or hold it. Ideas do not bleed. They do not feel pain. They do not love. And it is not an idea that I miss. It is a man.” So good. Also I appreciate and enjoyed your discussion at the end.
I know it's not really on brand for this channel to tackle politics. That's one of the reasons I watch. A nice little escape, but it's super interesting to see you guys tackle some heavier themes. Don't shy away from this sort of thing in the future I really enjoyed this!
I really love this movie, hard to believe it’s nearly 20 years old. I still don’t understand why it wasn’t more successful than it was. Hugo Weaving delivers an amazing performance with just his voice and although Natalie Portman’s English accent wasn’t perfect, it’s an emotionally powerful performance. For me it’s her second best performance only behind her role in Leon. Thanks for the reaction guys.
#1 I always remember...#2 V made sure places were vacant and only did harm to those who harmed him and others personally. V for Vengeance, V for Victory... V for Vendetta
That scene where Diedrich does the Benny Hill style sketch comedy is exactly how I think the real Stephen Fry would react to a totalitarian regime in the UK as well, to be honest.
What time! Glad yall dove back into this one. This movie is on my short list of movies that revived my faith in the movie industry in the early 2000s (the others being A Scanner Darkly, Lucky Number Slevin, and Wall-E - all the ones w goofy off-putting titles lol.)

So, one interpretation of “V” without sounding overly pretentious - is how “V” was used in the European Theatre of WWII. “V” for “victory”, “V.E.” for “Victory in Europe” - virtue and the sign of peace. But imagine, the day he starts, in order to attain peace…he declared WAR. “E” - Latin prefix for “out of”. E-V… The term “underrated” is overused, mostly by those who haven’t been exposed to whatever they deemed “underrated” - like the first time a kid sees something that’s been around for 20 years. That isn’t the case in this instance. THIS movie is hardcore f*cking underrated. The acting is decent, but it’s the writing that shines. It’s one of my favs. Great movie, awesome reaction. 🤙🏾
This movie came out months before I graduated high school. I was 17, and forming my own identity and opinions about things like religion and government. I saw this in theaters and it had a profound affect on me. Even now, watching Natalie's performance during that realization scene, has me super emotional.

There are some very important changes compared to the novel: 1. V accuses people much more, blaming them for accepting the world as it is, saying they are truly at fault. 2. The virus doesn’t exist; instead, it’s simply a Cold War version of England, where fear has taken over. 3. The Voice of the Party is not killed by V. He is portrayed as homosexual and is connected to some dolls. V dresses these dolls as if they were in the camp where he was held, burning them one by one in a psychological torture. In the end, he remains alive but goes mad. 4. V's story is explained in much greater detail. Among the explanations is the cause of the fire. V was a model prisoner who helped with various tasks, and as a reward, they allowed him to grow roses thanks to the doctor’s intervention. Among the supplies provided were various fertilizers, which V used to create bombs, blowing everything up. 5. V does not fall in love with Evey; instead, the story is about how Evey represents creation and V represents destruction. Where there is destruction, creation is needed-this is what anarchy means for V. But he, born from suffering and destruction, cannot live in this new world; a creator is now needed. 6. Finally, the supreme leader is even more intriguing. He is in love with a computer and hates people. He is killed by a random person on the street the first time he tries to go out.
This is the type of movie that I like to call a Batmanless Batman movie. It gets better every time I see it. Every year I have a weird feeling about this movie and then I see it and I forget how much respect I should have for it when I didn't.
EASILY the best adaptation of one of Alan Moore's stories is the DCAU episode "For The Man Who Has Everything" from Justice League Unlimited. It's the only adaptation that Alan Moore has said that he actually liked.
Natalie and Hugo Take this movie somewhere Amazing. Natalie needs more Reactions!! Where The Heart Is, Closer, and Brothers are her best performances besides this one imo.drama 🎭 is her Genre. 👸
An older brother of mine convinced our mother to allow him to take a nine year old me at the time to watch "V For Vendetta" at the theater. He pitched that learning about revolution in the name of liberal values from a movie would be educational. When we arrived at the theater, we saw the trailer for the movie from a television screen behind the ticket counter. It horrified me and I cried about not wanting to watch it. My older brother then took me to the mall instead where he bought me Pokemon merchandise.
Guy Fawkes is celebrated in the UK still. We have fireworks and bonfires, and more so in the past people used to burn an effigy of Guy Fawkes on the bonfire. ‘Penny for the Guy’ refers to kids asking for money to contribute to this, though the ‘Guy’ was just usually a hay stuffed scarecrow that would burn.
This is my absolute favorite movie. I love witty and sophisticated dialogue and this film has some of the best you'll ever hear. I guess it's why I love Tarantino films so much. So good.
That cop is Stephen Rae he's brilliant. I first saw him in Citizen X, an old HBO movie about a Russian serial killer back in the 90's, and starred in the Crying Game
"... We have guns." "No, what you have are bullets, and the hope that when your guns are empty I'm no longer be standing, because if I am you'll all be dead before you've reloaded." Those lines, followed by a scene of people who should have worn brown pants realizing he was right. It a masterful use of stylized, slow motion violence to tell a story. Seeing the fear creep into Creedy and the secret police faces was great story telling. They felt powerful and untouchable because they were used to using violence and fear of all types on people who couldn't fight back. That fact that V took the mortal wounds and powered through, reinforces the statement that ideas are bulletproof. You can kill people, but not the ideas they believe in and represent.
People can exist without government. Government cannot exist without people. Therefore government should work for the people. The message of this film has become frightingly important. Please people, go vote accordingly your consciousness and remember. Government should work for your future. You should not work for governments future.
😂😂 You contradict yourself. You just said people can exist without a government but ask people to vote giving the message that you really cannot exist without the government.
The comics were a product of the 1980's, but they're as relevant today as they were back then. Initially, they were in a British serial, eventually being getting published by DC Comics in a collected 10-part series. For a kid of the 80's, they hit like a freight train. Changed my life in many ways. Worried about the movie adaptation, but they did a solid job. Serious credit to Hugo Weaving. He made V... human. Just a stellar performance.

the lore surrounding this film is amazing. i have guy fakes face tattooed on my right hand, and its 100% because of hugo weaving in this role. his eloquence, his emotionality, the way that he brings LIFE to a rather singular character. absolutely incredible.

Stephen Fry was dead along with the other deceased characters shown at the end. Them unmasking themselves in the crowd was purely symbolic.
#1 I always remember...#2 V made sure places were vacant and only did harm to those who harmed him and others personally. V for Vengeance, V for Victory... V for Vendetta
If what I read is correct, Hugo Weaving did the V introduction in one take. How is that even possible?
One movie I can watch over and over.
He is a very talented and hardworking actor.
@@AshrafAnamSmith from Matrix😅
That scene where Diedrich does the Benny Hill style sketch comedy is exactly how I think the real Stephen Fry would react to a totalitarian regime in the UK as well, to be honest.
Some of the character reveals at the end were dead. V spoke for them as well and it was symbolic.
What time! Glad yall dove back into this one. This movie is on my short list of movies that revived my faith in the movie industry in the early 2000s (the others being A Scanner Darkly, Lucky Number Slevin, and Wall-E - all the ones w goofy off-putting titles lol.)
A Scanner Darkly is a fantastic movie which sadly nobody seems to remember nowadays.
Slevin is a low key banger that deserves a reaction by everyone.
Remember remember the 5th of November gunpowder, treason and plot. I see no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot, love this movie and have a great bonfire night to all fellow brits
thank you, right back atchya!🙂🙂🙂

*If personal vendetta muddies the message, then the Batman's crusade on crime must be mudied by his vengeance as well*
I think everyone agrees that Batman is just another mad man in a city of them, and that his concept of justice and punishment only possibly work in a broken system?
I almost sh*t myself when they flashed a clip of Will Ferrell playing the matrix architect. "VIS-A-VIS!! CONCORDINGLY!!"
Lol and Eddie Griffin as Morpheus....2003 MTV movie awards... what a time!

John hurt was perfect casting as high chancellor. He was in the movie nineteen eighty-four.
People in the United States watching this like it's still a movie..... not realizing that today could be the start of this very reality😅
one side has guns the other pronouns... where was that in this movie? lol
Natalie portmans accent is actually pretty good , as a British person I approve
“Almost as deep as Independence Day”… that killed me! Still laughing a minute later.
Kit Harrington has a miniseries called Gunpowder about what happened back then.
One of my favourite films! The writing is insane!!!! Hugo was incredible and so was Natalie! Just an awesome movie ❤
I'm genuinely shocked neither of you have seen this movie. When it came out the subject matter hit a little too close to home as we were living through the nightmare of the Bush administration and I didn't think it could get any worse. Boy was I wrong. Side note GO VOTE!!!!
They said they've seen it but they were like 15 and don't remember it at all.
@ guess I missed that part, was multi tasking
@reconsoldier135 I hear you, I often watch these reactions when I'm bored at work and miss things too. 😅
In retrospect, the Bush administration looks very "moderate" compared to where we are now.
@@reconsoldier135 May I suggest you task one thing at a time. I'm just being a d!ck, I don't mean it, easy done I don't all the time. Best wishes :)
I love they got John Hurt to portray the High Chancellor. Going from playing a victim of fascism to the face of it.
Penny For The Guy is what we used to say as kids when collecting money for Bonfire Night (Nov 5th) Today
We used to wheelbarrow an effigy of Guy Fawkes around where we lived collecting money for fireworks and wood for the bonfire which we would burn the Guy on the pire
E-V…
The term “underrated” is overused, mostly by those who haven’t been exposed to whatever they deemed “underrated” - like the first time a kid sees something that’s been around for 20 years.
What an eerie movie to watch on election day.

There are some very important changes compared to the novel:

It is a particularly fitting movie to re-watch today. It is like listening to a sad song when you're brokenhearted.
Only down side to this movie is too many people can't keep up with what's going on or understand how deep and multilayered this is.
EASILY the best adaptation of one of Alan Moore's stories is the DCAU episode "For The Man Who Has Everything" from Justice League Unlimited. It's the only adaptation that Alan Moore has said that he actually liked.
And the only one where he's actually listed in the credits.
Just 'cause Moore liked it doesn't mean it's the best.
Natalie and Hugo Take this movie somewhere Amazing. Natalie needs more Reactions!! Where The Heart Is, Closer, and Brothers are her best performances besides this one imo.drama 🎭 is her Genre. 👸
This is one of my favorite movies!!! So glad you guys have finally watched it like this
I wonder if the passing statement of the "Surveillance team" listening to the bishop was missed ? ""oohh hello, Children's Hour at the Abbey !"

Good luck. Hopefully, we are farther from this reality in a few months after the coup attempt fails again.
What a day and a time in history for you to react to this film. Thanks!

"... We have guns."
"No, what you have are bullets, and the hope that when your guns are empty I'm no longer be standing, because if I am you'll all be dead before you've reloaded."
Those lines, followed by a scene of people who should have worn brown pants realizing he was right.
What is your FAVORITE Alan Moore Adaptation??
this and zack snyders watchmen
The Justice League animated show has the only adaption Alan Moore has ever liked. "For The Man Who Has Everything"
Watchmen, even if Snyder only got like 80% of the story right and only really understood half of the main characters.
Watchmen. If Zack Snyder directing "Doomsday Clock" that could be the perfect storyline takes place in the DCEU
Watchman.
One irony is John Hurt played Winston Smith in the movie 1984 and was the character complete opposite to his character of Chancellor in this move.
This is my 2nd favourite movie of all time. It's the most beautiful script I've ever seen for a movie. Incredible.
1:08:04 The "Anarchy in the UK!" guy is David Leitch, future director of John Wick, Deadpool 2, Bullet Train, and Fall Guy! He was also V's stunt double.
One of the few movie adaptations that is way better than the source material in my opinion
love that John Hurt is in this as well as 1984, but complete opposite roles :)
Couldn’t vote 1st time I watched this, now im watching for the 2nd time and today was my 1st time voting
the lore surrounding this film is amazing.
i have guy fakes face tattooed on my right hand, and its 100% because of hugo weaving in this role. his eloquence, his emotionality, the way that he brings LIFE to a rather singular character. absolutely incredible.

Another Alan Moore Classic Comic adaptation BANGER!!! That man is one of THE most important figures of my generation, people who read comics in the mid 70's - early 80's.
The way V is loving movies while in hiding, it seems like he was a Reel Reject.
