About the album:
Merry Christmas is the first Christmas album, and the fourth studio album, by Mariah Carey. The album features cover versions of popular Christmas tunes and original material. Carey worked with Walter Afanasieff, with whom she wrote all of the original tracks, as well as producing Carey's interpretations of the covered material. The album contains a contemporary holiday theme, and featured "authentic, gospel flavored background vocals." Three singles were released from the album, of which All I Want for Christmas Is You went on to become one of the best-selling singles of all time.

We lost MJ. We lost Whitney. Mariah's one of the last legends we have left. (Yes, I know we still have many living legends still with us, but Mariah deals with the same malicious and vicious taunting from the press and public that Michael and Whitney did in their final years. If you can't feel the Holy Spirit when she belts "I LOVE HIM! Oh Mighty God, KING OF KINGS!" then you're dead! Say what you want about Mariah but she has never missed an opportunity to sing about Jesus and this song in particular is her at her very best.

I don't know if Whitney can top this. Mariah's musicality in this was unbeatable, every adlib was fitting the song.. And I don't think Whitney can belt this much consecutively (due to tension in her singing), but Mariah can due to her agility.

The ending gives me the same vibes of the Divas Live finale, I love me some Celine but the way her fans are saying Mariah was "jealous" wasn't what happened. She said that's why she doesn't like to sing with groups of people because of the competition when singing. If she couldn't sing that night, would she have chose 3 vocally demanding songs to sing??? No. So that's a lie that her fans have made a lie about.
Mariah in Divas 1998 sang My all perfectly although her voice was on the decline, a song that is almost impossible and that no one can sing with the original arrangement, she also hit several supported and resonant F#5 that night. Mariah has actually the best upperbelts in the vocal trinity, she chose not to participate because she doesn't feel comfortable going against Aretha, she was her Idol and her inspiration. It mainly depends on a person's character, I would have done the same
