About the album:
Merry Christmas is the first Christmas album, and the fourth studio album, by Mariah Carey. The album features cover versions of popular Christmas tunes and original material. Carey worked with Walter Afanasieff, with whom she wrote all of the original tracks, as well as producing Carey's interpretations of the covered material. The album contains a contemporary holiday theme, and featured "authentic, gospel flavored background vocals." Three singles were released from the album, of which All I Want for Christmas Is You went on to become one of the best-selling singles of all time.

As a younger kid I had a vocal range of F3-Bb5-G6, when my voice started (age 12) my range decreased to C3-B4-D5 (I lost control in it all too), but after 5 years of practicing (and a year of researching vocal pedagogy and technique, particularly mixing), I've increased my range and gained a whistle register (currently Eb2-G5-C6-C7). If you just do some research and put the dedication into it you save money and you can build a technique that will make hit those higher notes

I actually grew up listening to the Whitney one more but once I discovered this version, I instantly fell in love. I actually like the vocal performance on Mariah's better tho so.....but I enjoy them both equally.
