A while back I was visiting my elderly aunt and saw her "cable bill". She was on a fixed income and was being charged $245/m for JUST basic cable and "VOIP" phone line. Luckiky it was a small locally owned cable company, so I went there made a huge scene and threatened them with harm in front of everyone in line and they started cheering for me, so they changed it. I refused to let them even try to explain after admitting it was majorly overcharged.
A year ago, I decided to stop sailing the seas and own my content. I got software to rip BR, and I built a rather hefty NAS to accommodate the larger files. Now, it's looking like I'll be sailing again soon because most physical storefronts no longer supply physical media, and I hate buying Amazon. Sooo, good job, I have come full circle again. But now I have a hefty ~150TB NAS to hold all the things.

I wonder what would happen if everyone just ditched their smartphones for a week, then just went about their usual business. Law enforcement couldn't track them, nor could stores, surveillance and data mining would come to a halt. How much money would that cost these data brokers and big tech?
I am doing the same thing myself, I have bought several blu ray movies since Netflix and Disney started no longer providing physical copies of their shows anymore. If they don't want to sell me their content then I will just borrow the data with intent to return it at some point.
Digital streaming is crap if you want high quality... the bitrate for audio is crap compared to BD.. Of course, most people use a sound bar so they wouldn't notice but some of us did invest in the gear to hear the difference sadly so hopefully the "full fat" movies can still be available moving forward.
