I grew up in rural southern Alberta surrounded by dairy farms. I left the area long ago for the city, and all the dairy farms are gone now... but your videos brings back some great memories of milking with my buddies. My uncle owned the company that hauled the milk to the processors in Calgary. Thanks for the flood of memories. Going to watch all your videos!
2:35 I was installing similar system but from other manufacturer. It was measuring constantly cow's temperature, heart bitrate, skin tension and so on. When cow's parameters were saying that she need an AI even tho she didn't send other signals like more movment (silent rut). As an option u culd add signal LED so when u needed to find the cow, if u call cow's device it wuld blink for few seconds. Preatty neat to have especialy for silent ruts detection. But it wasn't cheap, system i was installing were for araund 200-240 cows cant recall exact noumber and total bil was araund 100k CAD. System lifespan was declared from 7 to 10 depends of usage (led blinking) after that u have to replace transmiters. All integrated with miliking system etc.
SaskDutch Kid Jan it’s my pleasure, I have ptsd and I’ve been so depressed with all the bad news in the world these days. I thank you and all the great farmers here, I don’t think I could keep going on with life without knowing people like you are still out there living life like we all should to make this life a happy life for all! I hope you understand how much you Eric and all the other TH-cam farmers give me hope again. I love you all!!!
Wow, we covered a lot of material in today's class This vlog jumps up to the top because of content & explanation. Well done 🚜 🚜 🚜🐄🐄🐄🐄 🚜 🚜 🚜 Ditto for the Q & A
I work with my dad on a daily basis and we are starting again with milk, I really like your videos and I already have a lot of ideas coming from them! maybe one day I’ll start a channel like you, but i still don't know... continue as soon as u goes far!! BTW I’m from Brazil!
Love watching your videos...one thing though....good is an adjective...not an adverb. The adverb is well. Keep up the good work....you do it very well.
Yes! Every day I look out and the trees are all whipping like crazy. I can't remember the last day I was able to go out without wind!! C'mon, MN, less wind and more rain!
Jan thanks for your videos. You should show people how late the sun sets this time of year there, I think many will be surprised, who live to the south.

Is there a reason why that bed buster only goes half way into each bed? Does it not get compacted all the way in the bed? I commend you, there are not to many young people that would do what you do now a day. Most want to,just be on a electronic device and sit at home not working and living off mom and dad. You and your family are a rare breed. You stick together and get the job done. God bless you and keep up the good work.
Very very nice cow's. I sure miss milking cow's. It was a great life. Oh Jahn I did have one cow moose and her two babies beside the barn this morning. They know where they are safe. Their my cattle now. Just as long as they stay out of the wife's garden ha ha ha. Thank you for the video update eh. Good work.
Sou novo no teu canal estou gostando muito de ver ésta linda exploração de vacas sou de São Miguel Açores Portugal meu maior sonho é de trabalhar numa exploração déstas que mais é gosto é de vacas leiteiras 🐄👍🏻
I dont see many brown cows in your harem but I think I just did now. That camera must get nervous sometimes. AI is a quick process when you get good at it. I saw the damage you guys got from wind and rain; could be a tough summer. That milker maintenance just shows how well your operation is managed. Good video. Peace.
Performing all offs job, your tough kid( super kid dairy farming) salute hard job but we'll+ experienced stockmanship - thank you for sharing your dairy farming activity routinary amazed including your sister. Honestly your Industrious man. Excellent skilled dairyfarm Family Manager.
Another good video. Really enjoy watching your day to day stuff, particularly in and around the barns. What was the reason for switching the 4 cows from one milking group to another? Greetings from southern Ontario
When I see your dad or you out on the fields I think ALL THAT LAND. We had 400 acres on our farm and only 80 of it was hay fields. About 30 for grazing. The rest was woods. And you have 2100-!! That is huge to me. The land of the big sky.
CavanCu Check out Mike Mitchell as he, his dad and two brothers plus a few hired hands farm 40,000 acres in SW Saskatchewan. Mike has some fields that are over 5,000 acres
I have a suggestion for your walls and floors, have you thought of using 🦏 Rhino, they have a product for walls and floors. It would make it easier for cleaning the walls and floors. It's very durable, won't come off if you scrape it with the Bobcat. I did my garage with it, dropped loads of metal on it and no damages.

What tools are used to identify the pulsators that are worn out and need replacement or are all of them replaced each year? How or when do you know that your AI was successful? Do you ever need to repeat an AI on a cow because the first time was unsuccessful? Can you elaborate on AI.
I have a couple of questions. When the American dairy farmers and the dairy farms in East Canada, had to spill their milk, did you have to spill milk as well? If so, can you talk about it? Also, I see, when you are milking, there are flashes of light in the ceiling. What would that be for? We are retired farmers from Saskatchewan. Enjoy your vlogs. Thank you.
How do the cows learn to file into the milking stations and not leave gaps between stalls? I feel like a cow would turn into a stall early and block the rest from coming in sometimes. Lol
I really liked your video, I always follow your channel and I think the handling is incredible. I am a veterinarian, I am from Brazil, I have some doubts, Do you casquate the cows? Are all stages on the farm, I mean, lactating cows, heifers, replacement? Are they two or three milkings?

Watching form the UK and really enjoying your coverage, great camera work and impressed by your various fields of knowledge (pun intended) but could you at least try to hit the bucket with the cleaning down cloths!
You can see straight away the attention to detail that makes an intensive system work. I can see those cows are happy.

Aw mannn! That poor lady cow. Didn't even get a kiss. 🤦♀️
We're sick of the wind down here in Minnesota too!
It’s brutal!
Yes! Every day I look out and the trees are all whipping like crazy. I can't remember the last day I was able to go out without wind!! C'mon, MN, less wind and more rain!
Love the content and the cows. My husband work in a small dairy in the 50's all hand miking it is much better now.
Jan thanks for your videos. You should show people how late the sun sets this time of year there, I think many will be surprised, who live to the south.
I gotta go there and help you around the farm for couple days.. I love everything you have up there. Nice video, as usual 😊👌
What is the oldest 🐄 on the farm, can you make video and include her in it? 👍

I also like that you cows seem calm, probably because you guys aren’t mean to them.😍
What is the flashing light in the milking parlor for? Thanks for the videos from dairy farmers in Michigan.

I really like that you keep the loafing stalls clean so cows udders aren’t covered with poop at milking time. Makes me want to drink milk🥰

Your videos are such a delight to watch.
Do the cows ever get their hoofs trimmed, clipped or filed during the year? How many times does a cow have calves before they are sent to market?

What are the yellow/amber strobe lights in the milk parlor rafters for?
What is with the flashing yellow lights on the ceiling when you are in the milking parlor? About the 12:20 mark?
Plus did you stop using the foot bath for the cows? 13:45 ish.
We dont always run a foot bath.
Is there a particular cow in each group who will “always” get the group moving?

How do you handle new first calf heifers in the parlor? Usually they kick like crazy? Can you video it?
Hi Jan, loved the floor cleaning and udder cam. Is there an average increase in cows lying down after the bed mixer goes thru? Ta
8pm and still so much sun? What time is sunrise and sunset? Wow!
Sun sets around 10 I think
That at least gives you plenty of daylight!
Tricia Abrams Sunrise in Saskatchewan can be as early as 4:00AM depending on the month and location
How much time a day do u milk the cows.just curious to know.
I'm very curious why you dont use hydraulic manure scraper
what are the orange flashing lights in the milk parlor?
For how many years are you in Sakatchewan from now?
How do the cows learn to file into the milking stations and not leave gaps between stalls? I feel like a cow would turn into a stall early and block the rest from coming in sometimes. Lol
There’s gates that make it really hard for a cow to do that.. but I’d be lying if I said it never happens 😂😂
SaskDutch Kid 😂👍 Thanks for the response!

Great video. Are the cows eager to get milked? They are cooperative, although I’m sure they have worse days.
Another great video. Thank you Jan
Cracks me up that they're so nosey..just had to slobber your camera before second milking 😂

Have you ever thought about doing a Q&A?
I agree and maybe "interview" your family. Would be great to hear from them, and their thoughts.
Andrew Jurena I would love to see that!
maybe at 100k?
@Coleen West That's a bit of a reach ......who shows their finances on You Tube ... do you ?
@Coleen West I don't think its necessary for anyone to go into "detailed" financials on a public platform.
Watching form the UK and really enjoying your coverage, great camera work and impressed by your various fields of knowledge (pun intended) but could you at least try to hit the bucket with the cleaning down cloths!
