I have several Gibson Les Paul´s, when comparing them to some of the more expensive Epiphone Les Paul's its clear that I can feel and hear some difference between them, I would any day of the week choose a Gibson Les Paul over the Epiphone Les Paul, but.. the Epiphone Les Paul's is a really good guitar, there is no question about that. :D
Rich! I'm such a sucker for these guitars. I just got the Epi. custom to add to the collection. Maybe the Gibson headstock pushed me into these. They sound and feel great!! Great video my friend!
Good afternoon dear friend. Excellent comparison of 2 LP type guitars, great sound. A difficult choice, but everyone has what they want and need in their head, personal preferences and account status will certainly play a role. Thanks for the video. Greetings Pavel CZ.👍👍👍
great demo, killer playin', bad ass in fact. I have a Greeny (Epi), and 2 of these '59's (I sold the 3rd one and will buy another one next week. Ice Tea, Factoy 'Burst, and Royal Tea. I have the Custombuckers in the FB, and double cream Dimarzio '59's in my Royal Tea for now, my 2nd Ice Tea will be coming next week. I Gibsonized all my headstocks, including the truss rod cover.
It's not just the head stock change on the newer ones the newer ones also have custom buckers whereas the old ones used burst buckers. Plus these newer ones just look better visually overall. The finishes look nicer And they just look more like a custom shop than they did.
They have a neck profile more accurate to a R9 than the earlier ones as well. To me the new one, with the Custombuckers, sound significantly better than the previous burstbuckers. Although those are fantastic as well.
Loved the Demo. I already have an R9 from 2018 and I have one of these on order in Factory Burst. Can't wait for it to come in. I love LP's. I don't buy all the Gibson Hype. This guitar is built better than the standard Gibson guitar. One piece neck, long neck tenon & real pearl inlays. It has a two piece body, but so does the Gibson Standard. The only down side is the veneer TOP & the POLY finish. Oh yes, It don't say Gibson on the headstock. For $5000.00 I can deal with it. If I don't like the poly, I can always refinish it with Nitro. Who know's, maybe I'll sell my R9. But I doubt It.
My buddy has an R9, currently doing a refinish and come to find out it isn’t to the specifications of the description. No long neck tenon and has T binding. Gibson is out there selling bullshit, so maybe check yours.
I own a 2023 Epiphone Les Paul classic and a 2024 Gibson Les Paul 50s, the Epiphone is a great guitar for the money but you get what you pay, the Gibson sounds better feels better, the neck profile and fretwork is superior, there’s just something special about to Gibson, it’s not just the name on the headstock. The Epiphone is a great guitar to gig with, you don’t have to worry about it as much.
Epiphone have improved over the last couple of years and so have the prices. I'm a sucker for a nice flame top and I think Gibson have the edge here. There is still something about having 'That Name' on the headstock.
I am thinking about buying one of this '59 Epis...this one seems to play great and has a beautiful colour that I haven't seen until now...is it a special one made for some dealer?...great review man as always...I bought my '50 s Les Paul Epi in gold top after seeing your review...cheers from Italy👍👍👍
Can anyone tell me if the paintwork on the new 2024 model is the same as on the older limited Edition with Burst Buckers? Is VOS here the same as on the Limited Edition or does it really feel and look different?
@@themanalligator4813 Not always tho output loading 50s tone control generally retains more highs than modern wiring. TBs also boost output and change the sweep of the volume control which can be good or bad depending on your pickup inductance and pot taper. TBs are almost always a try&see endeavor.
I think the Epiphone was right there , it sounded killer for 5k less. Hard not to pick that Epi unless you’re just stuck on the name on the headstock. In a mix I’m not thinking it makes much difference .
Great video and great playing ! I recently bought one of the epiphone inspired by gibson, les paul custom guitars..love it! It can get a bit confusing though...there is an epiphone inspired by gibson custom shop les paul custom model ..with quite a few differences...anyway...epiphone are making some great value guitars..I am presently trying to decide between the epiphone inspired by gibson custom shop 59...the guitar in this video for $ 2,600 Australian or the gibson les paul standard 50's model for about $ 5,000 Australian...opinions appreciated!
I have both guitars that you mention. I hate to say this, but you really need to try them both if at all possible. They are different, especially in the pick ups you get and the neck profile. Indian Laurel vs. Rosewood for the fretboard material doesn't matter to me. They don't feel that different. The Epiphone comes with the high end Custom bucker pick ups. They do sound great but to me they are a softer sounding pick up compared to the Burst bucker pups found in the Gibson Standard. But pick up preference is totally subjective. Get what sounds best to YOU 🙂. The Epiphone is a great value for the buck. Everyone bitches about the $1299.00 list price. I got mine new for $1150,00 plus tax. I got it out the door for less than list price. That's here in the USA. If money is tight, get the Epiphone. I predict you'll be happy. If you got the extra $$$ I think you'll also be happy with the Gibson. They are both good guitars, but they do feel and sound a bit different. Good Luck!!
I have the Epiphone inspired by G ‘59 from 2-3 years ago. I really like it. I play it more than my real Gibson silverburst custom. They both play and sound good, but my Gibson is very heavy. I usually take it if I’m trying to impress people with my gear…ha!

Not just the headstock, pickups are different, the new epi has gotten the same pickups as the R9, which is an immense value over the previous.
The pick ups in that are different than the older model with Gibson shape headstock.

I didn't think it needed it, but I don't have a ton of guitars with a treble bleed, so maybe I don't know.
