I have a 97 1500 with a 5.9\ 360 Magnum. I did shorties (headers) going to a 3 inch exhaust pipe. Cat delete to 2 super 44s. Its true dual exhaust. It runs good and its nice and loud. Gas mileage will suck the more you do, but the torque and HP will go up the more you do. I also did my spark plugs and wires all at the same time with a whole tune up.
Everything you listed should in theory improve your mileage. Most cars, but particularly these old trucks from back in the day really benefit from breathing better. Old exhaust systems were extremely restrictive.
I thought most of these trucks had a factory CAI on them. My '96 360 has one. P.S. Long tube headers will flatten out your Fuel/Air curve nicely. I will be long tube true duel cat deleting mine this spring.
No 2nd gen 1500 came with anything other than 3.55 gearing unless it was a special order. As far as I knew only the 2500s would come with 4.10s. And they were still rare unless it was a diesel.
Just let everybody know a stock5.9l Magnum normally comes with 290 horsepower with 365 torque but you can go buy a jegs crate performance motor that will do 310 in horsepower and 410 and torque and all they do is bore the cylinders over and put bigger pistons in I will remind you you will have to replace the timing covers so keep your old stock one just replace the seal in it I have done it after Jegs said it couldn't be done and it wouldn't work in my truck well I prove them wrong
You're 100% right about carburetors and TBI. That's where these will really shine. I'm going to have to beg to differ about them doing nothing for a MPI, though. You're certainly not going to realize the economy, horsepower, or torque gains you're going to experience with a carburetor or TBI, but I installed one on my 1996 Dodge Ram 5.9 Magnum and I could tell a slight difference. I'm excellent at telling a difference in mods when I'm familiar with a vehicle. It really helped when I started to pump some HHO into it, after that, but that can certainly be expected. Check this video of a 5.3 LS engine. There's a slight gain noticed. You are 100% right about your real gains coming from an addition to a carburetor or TBI, though. Make sure your CV cable and Throttle cable are both tight, sounds like you aren't getting all the beans! Nice truck!

You need to adjust your kick down cable. It should kick down a gear and it didn’t
I was thinking that the base 318, and 360 non sport off road package trucks mostly got the 3.55 gear sets but I could be wrong..
