  • Learn how to use REW EQ for linear phase room correction!
In this Part 1, I'll go through the process of showing you how to EQ a system to an ideal and flat response! We'll make a file for rePhase that can be very easily imported to generate linear EQ, a far more optimal EQ than standard parametric EQ!

Ignore the miniDSP requirements in the video, as well as the cable/interface if using a UMIK microphone or other USB microphone.
^My preferred method is the UMIK microphone due to its ease of use and high quality, also to use the 90° measurement and point the microphone to the ceiling when doing the measurement.
Toid's DIY Audio has two affiliate links for this microphone, these help support his channel at no extra cost to you.

With all the help he has given me in setting up this new channel, I would be much obliged if you would use these links if choosing to buy one of these microphones. 😀

Thx, excellent tutorial, I've used REW for a while but just downloaded rephase.
If REW likes to attenuate, rather than boost equalize, why do they put the center the target within the more or less average of the measured curve, rather than at, or near the bottom? I understand that you have to stay out of digital max saturation, but that can be done with overall gains.
It's really nice of you guys to put this info out there, it is appreciated. I am an engineer, but electrical, not acoustic, so it is valuable. I have found these setups to be as much art as science, though, frankly, if the desired result is good sound, especially when you start throwing various absorbers into the mix. Now on to part 2. :-)

Hi everyone, sorry for the initial upload and subsequent deletion.
I soon realised that youtube had corrupted parts of the video after having processed it with lots of blocky artefacts that made those sections unwatchable and so had to take it down and reupload it.

Well done Elliot. I have been playing with REW lately (more for speaker design) and would love to see more of these videos. Keep up the good work.

Thank you, I'm glad to hear you liked it! After I'm done with this room EQ stuff, I'll be moving over to Active Speaker guides (the way I do it at least), so hopefully that'll be to your taste even more so!

Hello sir,can you tutorial how to improve phase on rew

Hello, improve phase in terms of what exactly sorry? In terms of correcting a passive speaker's phase from its crossover components, or are you referring to something else?

How to use this method for Subwoofer calibration with help of 2x4hd?

Be careful with too many taps at low frequencies as that actually could introduce some noticeable time domain artifacts if corrections are too sharp, especially boosts. I would recommend going with something like Multi Sub Optimiser instead of you have more than one, as that actually uses the phase change of minimum phase filters to control how to subs interact to give a smoother distribution of bass over the space, should be a lot easier to implement too!

Thank you for the video. But what if i use another DSP than Rephase? I have a Hypex amp with 9 parametric EQ. How do i get the xml files then…? Because if I put Rephase on REW EQ generator, I will get to much parametric EQ… I’m lost with this Rephase software 😩

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. First of all, just so you know, parametric EQ will likely only be minimum phase (but in your options, if you see somewhere that says minimum phase, click it anyways since it may be a drop-down to select linear or mixed phase - if that's what you want that is). Other than that, unfortunately I am not experienced with Hypex amps, but what should always work is entering the values manually.
If you go into REW EQ and choose generic instead of RePhase, you can then go into the EQ filter banks at the top and depending on how many bands of EQ you have (8, 10, 12, 16 are common values but you may have a different amount available) you can set more by selecting them from None to Peaking, or set less by selecting Peaking to None.
Then carry on generating the EQ filters as per usual, go back into the filter banks and then you can use those values to fill out the parametric EQ banks in your Hypex amp manually.
If using minimum phase EQ, I recommend taking an RMS average of all your speakers and applying the same EQ to all of them so that when they play at the same time you don't have phasing problems.

do anyone do this to af recorded file? :)

Do you mean you want to apply it to an individual audio file (one with music on for example)?

If so, you can use a VST plug-in like the one on convolver.sourceforge.net/vst.html, and use it in a DAW, or since it's a VST2 type plugin, you can also use it in Davinci Resolve which is a free video editor, that can also just be used for audio editing. Hope this helps 👍

put ur voice on mono, beside that good video

I know, it was an output error from my video editor output, I wasn't aware it fed mono audio into stereo single channel. So sorry about that, glad you liked it otherwise. In all videos since this one I have fixed the issue
