    I can’t tell you how much I love the completeness of your videos. None of that “seeds in the ground and that’s how you plant onions”stuff. And your camera isn’t zoomed in on your face while you talk for 20 minutes.

    Very well done! I enjoy watching videos that have planting through harvest so I can see the entire process in one video! If you're in Southern California, you may have better luck planting the short-day variety of potato onions; you should be able to harvest them quicker than a year.

    I don't think could wait 1 entire year for onions. I only wait that long for things I absolutely love like ginger

      Filaree Farms sells them. I got mine on sale for $5.75 for 1/2 pound. These are for spring plant(so you do have time). IF you are in a Northern Climate, you should be able to harvest late summer/fall. Soak your bulbs in a solution 1 part bleach to 9 parts water for a few minutes to kill diseases/viruses on the outside of the bulb. Then plant.

    Someone told me that onios take a whole year to be ready for harvesting, and I didn't believe them. Wow! That's a long time! Thank you for sharing this valuable information. I think I prefer the Green Mountain variety. Greetings from Florida.

    So it takes longer than regular onion to harvest? Usually it only take 3 months, but this onion takes a year. May i know if this onion is a good to go crop?

    I never heard of these types of onions. Where did you get them? I would like to try growing them. I like that while you’re waiting for the harvest, you can still use the greens.

    I have seen them in Mexican grocery stores here. I do the planting of asparagus in large containers too. I heard or read in one of my gardening books, asparagus & other wild growing plants need to be contained or they pop up in your yard & neighbors too. No one wants that. Hard work being a farmer or gardener. So no need to have cherished veggies.

      You are so kind. The humbleness shines through. It is the India influence. Hindus, Sikh Guaratis ..all are kind to females & very complimentary...just sayin. Even our Babaji..sees the American who speaks Punjab & Hindi in the Chunnie Savaat & Kamece & greets me like a Sister.. Mrs. Singh, How are you today?..with teeth glistening in the lights of the Gurdwara::: automatic smile. Singh says..in the car..."""There was those teeth again"""Vicki

    I just received seeds for green mountain potato onion. The person who sent it said they grew it from seeds. Is there a reason why you think it might not grow from seeds?

    • @CaliforniaGardening
      @CaliforniaGardening  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes it is possible to grow from seeds but I just didn't get enough seeds when I grew them. To be sure that you are growing potato onions (and not shallots for example), try getting some sets - they are available on Etsy sometimes.

      @@CaliforniaGardening thanks. I got these seeds from an extremely reliable source that has been growing it for years so I am confident they are genuine green mountain potato onions, but I will try and get some sets too...will be a fun comparison!

    it took 1 year!! holy crack that is long.. this means you need 5 years of that one package and 1 acre to end up with 1 year supply off grid.. or need to plant 1 acre and wait 1 year.

      @CaliforniaGardening  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah id did take longer than I expected. But a few succession plantings should do the trick. These are smaller onions though, so keep that in mind!

    No chance that most of us will be able to grow them.......we have winter

    • @PotatoOnionGuy
      @PotatoOnionGuy 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @thehazelnutspread I live in WI and have been successfully growing yellow potato onions since 2020. During the 2024 season I will be starting the Green Mountain variety from seed. If you live above the 37th parallel (which I'm assuming you do having winter), be sure to purchase them from a vendor who is also above it so you get the long-day variety.
