Fragmented ecosystems indeed. I love the ergonomic design of the R5 and the price. But If it isn't a Zigbee product (since Sonoff has a Zigbee bridge), why buy it! Realistically, I don't by eWeLink devices to run them specifically on the eWeLink platform... I buy them to integrate them into HomeKit. It seems Sonoff is attempting swing more to the proprietary Dark Side.
Error in this video. at the 2:04 mark, you said 150 meter range. No, 50 meter range. Not as important today as was a time of video, because the Mini R3 has been discontinued already.
Can I use S-mate with remote sctions if I install the Tasmota firmware on the Mini R3? I need to be able to control theini R3 via my MQTT broker but once offline, I need to control it via the S-Mate wirelessly. Ideas?
@@notenoughtech Thank you. If i flash Tasmota on Mini R3 is it able to communicate anyway witth S-Mate? Does Tasmota support commands through blutooth?
In a way I'm kind of tired or reinventing standards. It feels like they do this to push new hardware like they do with phone OS updates yearly to bring new mobiles out hoping we all just gonna go and upgrade our systems. So I'm trying to be enthusiastic about matter but ... I'm defeated
@@notenoughtech Well, that's what matter is supposed to do, no? agree on a standard that we won't have to re-invent. I'm at a point where i am hesitant to buy new automation because i want to make sure it meets the new standard, but the date keeps getting pushed back. Come on folks, just agree on a simple protocol that is expandable and be done with it!
And how do I get that included with MQTT or HTTP Get? Or do I now need a different app for each switch? Can this also be done without the external cloud?
With these devices, you can only link up via eWeLink API. I covered this in one of my videos. Until a toolchain is present for RISC-V it's unlikely we will see them flashed. There is a full SDK released by the company (bouffalo) with python libraries, so anyone with the knowhow could flash new firmware - as long as they don't mind writing this from scratch. Dev pads are there after all.

The damned thing does not fit in standard EU 60mm diameter wall box, like the ones that are commonly used in Germany and eastern Europe. It measures 62mm diagonally! The same as ZBMINI-L. Idiotic!
With so many standards and shapes these things are hard to make it fit all footprint. UKs one has mostly square 60mm wall sockets so it hasn't been an issue. Similar case for more countries.
Having had nothing but disappointment with Sonoff, I will not buy any of their junk again. It is poorly designed and manufactured. The inline switches fail after a short time, and I wasn't even using them regularly. I have two sensors and a ZBMini which are unavailable in Home Assistant most of the time. What is the point of a sensor that doesn't sense or a switch that won't? Never again.
If you have inline switches failing quickly on regular basis, perhaps you are not sticking to the specified current requirement? I have a lot of sonoff devices (flashed most of them) with the oldest ones running 5 years without break. I only had 2 of them fail me. One cause I mixed L & N and one arrived dead. ZB issues are more problematic to solve as they often involve digging into logs to find out what causes comms issues, and with mesh networks it may not be the device you think it is, but one that relays the info.
@@notenoughtech No, different lights, and no dimming involved. There was little load and little use. As I wrote above, most (80%) Sonoff devices either failed or failed to work properly.
@@frankcollins4743 reminds me of MiHome from energinie. I have one of their 4 way plug sockets and a few other smart devices but the relays fail and weld the contacts to themselves. Dear Sonoff, I'm going to need a chart.

They were very adamant to admit but this is a design that will superseded RF series
Did I get something wrong? You say 3 actions per button, 6 buttons; that makes 18 right? Or are there some extras I missed
OMG 🤪 me and my maths. I'll go get my coat
I had aqara opple in mind which has 4 actions per button.
BTW great video, I didn't completely understand my S mate and miniR3. And now I do! Thanks!👍
So instead of the promissed Zigbee support we get some new protocol in the new devices?.. Got kind of turned off Sonoff, tbh.
So am I. Feels like the focus is on the wrong direction

It's not esp32 based... I don't believe you can flash it just yet.

I don't believe it would work at the moment but I think minir3 has support for Sonoff DIY
Hoping that we'll get Matter out sooner than later.

license costs ?

In Australia, a 60W LED light shouldn't exceed the current rating, particularly if used less than 50 times.
Have the switches that failed you all connected to the same light? Were you dimming it through the inline switch by any chance?
