    Accessing used farm equipment is not as easy at it seams it should be , sometimes I miss stuff I should have noticed . You did a good job of showing how to look over an auction find , thanks

    That truck is in pretty good shape for a manure spreader.If all you have to do is replace that chain and find that air leak that will be able to haul a lot of the cow excrement if the ground is dry enough when you want to spread manure.

      Well its better then my other truck.. but who cares... they are cheap poop flingers... as long as they work Im happy

    I am a new subscriber. I live in Pennsylvania USA. I am 63 & a retired 15 employee machine shop owner. I grew up around farms & also worked as a farm hand from 10 to 16 years old, is where my love for equipment, tractors, trucks, and such comes from.
    If you get those plates in the back of the spreader furnished via a machine shop they can still use mild steel to fabricate them and they can be sent out and "Case Hardened" that is most cost effective in my opinion. A weld shop can probably burn those plate good enough from hot rolled steel to do the job saving you expensive machining, and they can still be Case Hardened.
    Since I'm new to your operation this question may be silly, but why use something like a truck with a lot of maintenance associated with it, when a spreader trailer will do the job? I pulled a manure spreader often when we cleaned the cow troughs, and even the sweeper chain or conveyor ran off the wheels and power take-off so there was no need for hydraulics and it did a fine job and I was able to pull it with any tractor there that had a power-take-off from a old john deere 60 to a smaller 3000 series based on today's tractor sizes.

      Pete_ Hine_Of_PA what part of Pennsylvania do you live in we have a farm here in Elizabethtown Pennsylvania. you can check out The Farming Life if you want. have a great evening talk to you later

    • @Northern_Farmer
      @Northern_Farmer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pete_ Hine_Of_PA For speed! With my other truck I can be back and loaded and back out a half mile before the tractor is even back from the first load.

    • @SteelyPaw
      @SteelyPaw 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I surmise that makes maintaining a truck worth while when you have a lot to do. Where I worked we only had 150 head which equaled about one evening per 24 hours of spreading perhaps two or three loads. Our spreader wasn't any bigger than a standard hay wagon and not quite as wide. I surmise you might spread powered fertilizer too? I"ll keep watching as time goes by and I think a lot of my questions will get answered. Be advised I'm not here to bust your hump, I am merely inquisitive and will add suggestions if I can. I appreciate the people that take the time to make videos for my enjoyment and learning. Thanks for your reply to my question, and I do think you made a good by on that old truck. I love old trucks, and cat powered is icing on the cake..

      Elm custom harvesting: My daughter went to Elizabethtown College, and went on to become a professor at Jeffereson University Hospital. However, I live in North Coventry twp,, a suburb of Pottstown. As a kid growing up for 19 years, I live in rural Spring City, where there were farms in every direction of the compass. I often worked on the farms after school and during summer break. I plowed, spread manure, cut sorghum, bedded cows, helped milk (automatic) balled hay / straw, drove truck, tractor, you name it I did it, lol. Since it was part time, I found it fun, especially if driving one of the trucks or tractors was involved.
      I now live on 3/4 acre of semi wooded land, and being retired, I enjoy maintaining it, messing with my cars, wood working and going fishing. I Hoped I answered your question, and I hope you also had a nice weekend.

    You should put high flotation tires on the rear axles- then you could use it almost anytime!

    • @Northern_Farmer
      @Northern_Farmer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There were two truck that had floatation tires on them..but they sold pretty high... but I liked that idea.

      I ran a Mack with super singles on the drives and it wouldn't go anywhere without getting stuck or spinning up. The guys with regular duals would just pass me by and keep on going in the same road. I would've never thought it but they're useless on the drives. Hope that helps.

    • @Northern_Farmer
      @Northern_Farmer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Dehaven ment the big floatation tires... like floater tires.

    • @dehavenfamilyfarm
      @dehavenfamilyfarm 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Northern Farmer, you are correct! I thought given your wet ground they would be helpful. It is easy for me to suggest things like that because I do not have to pay for them. LOL

    Travis and Ryan prefer straight trucks, and they'll eventually have to replace that spreader they use. I say keep it in good condition and hope for a cross-border sale at some point.
