I Like how the non bluegrass musicians seem to really be enjoying this,and Chris is playing Sarah's octave mandolin ,and letting her play his 1920's Lloyd Lore F5 love it.
How much fun is this? A mentor and protege switching beloved instruments, tunes called out and played so sweet!! Alex is also spot on. I love how they pay homage to the genre's tradition here, yet I'm enthralled with the creativity these immensely talented players bring to the LFH stage on any given night. When Sarah Jarosz is part of the show, it's always special!!
You do know they are not playing acoustic instruments and therefore, who knows what the real Bill Monroe instrumentals would actually sound like in this venue.
Every one of these I've watched, I've loved watching the band's reactions. Especially the bass player, he always looks like he's just so enthralled and impressed by what's unfurling before him.
I love the look on the other band members faces. Like they're on the outside looking in. I love pickin' those tunes. Also got to see Chris, Bela and Casey Driessen play J Ridge as a seminar at Rocky Grass Academy some years ago. Will never forget it.
I now occasionally say in a jam, "That has words. DIS-qualified." Had I been there I would have hollered "Old Dangerfield". But Gold Rush was sweet. The instrument and lick trading between the two mando masters was sublime (Sarah .oO "I'm playing a damn Lloyd Loar...") and Alex stayed with them every step. The joy and admiration on the other musicians' faces was perfect.
How many times am I going to have to watch this before I stop finding another reason to be amazed? ! ? ! First: there was Sarah's mandolin jamming, she is a fantastic master jammer! Second: Chris rocking the old 6 string, wow he's great at that instrument too! Third: Alex wicked puts the pep into fiddle tunes! Finally: there's the simpatico between the three of them that is why i didn't see it all the first time, he he he
I totally forgot Chris's whole Big Mon' build up to the two fiddle tune tribute!! Happy Birthday to the Big Mon'! He is just so knowledgeable, funny, passionate, & he REALLY loves his job.

I sure miss this show. The family hates it in comparison with ‘Prairie’, but I loved it for what Garrison said it was- a much more ‘musical’ show, by a musician more than a story teller. I thought it was a fine replacement. Any way we can get it back, maybe a Live From Here tour?!?
