- For less than 1 Euro or about 1 USD (31 Thai baht) you can travel by train from Pattaya to Bangkok in Thailand.
The train only provides 2nd class.
The trip takes about 3 hours for a bit more than 100 km distance.
This really brought back great memories, I lived in Pattaya for ten years and rode this train well over 200 times, and I enjoyed it every time. in my day it was a well kept secret and so few tourists were ever on the train, .The bus to Bangkok is a trip to endure the train is a trip to enjoy. The movement of the train, the fans and the wide open windows ensured that air con was not necessary , and there were vendors all along the route to sell cold water etc. a great trip.
A good interesting video, it will be on my to do list next trip. Thanks for sharing.
These are third class coaches, not second. It's an "ordinary train", which means it stops at every station, no matter how small. Ordinary trains seldom have more than third class coaches. To get where you're going faster, take the "rapid trains" or "
"express trains". But the Pattaya line would be fun to take just for the adventure.
Lovely. Thanks. I would never use it after an 11 hour flight, but for a dull day it's great.
yep. the only way to do it if on holiday or retired. No need to rush. Enjoy the fresh air, the local scenery.
Amazing Thailand
I have lots of time being retired so i took this trip 27 stops and a bit over 4 hours. Was nice trip will do again lots to see
i took the train from bankok all the way up to chiang mmai. took me 14 hours but there was a lot of beautiful scenery along the way
Great video. I like exotic train rides.
Great, thanks for posting. Must try this journey myself next trip to Thailand!
Awesome video and Ty for the 'Embed'!
I didnt have time to ride this, but your movie satisfied my curiosity. The bus str8 to the airport takes less than 90 minutes.
Thanks for sharing. Great video and useful info for my upcoming trip.
many trips there. usually I take the AC bus up to Bangkok and either the airport or Ekamai and hook up with the BTS skytrain. But, taking this train is on my list of things to do. I am usually just killing time while on Holiday so this will work for me!
Great videos keep up the good work...
Thanks , very nice video and good information
FYI, take this train for the experience. 31 baht is a good price but of course you have to first get to this train station which is too far to walk to from Pattaya. The AC bus costs about 134 baht and gets you to a BTS station.
Interesting clip, thanks.
I myself had seen first time the train between Pattaya & Bkk I must have visited 5/6 time but always travaled by bus or taxi this I had seen for first time.
TRAVEL TRAIN FROM PATTAYA TO BANGKOK
great video, thanks for the upload.
I think this is a local train. It stops every station so it's slow n cheap. There is an express one, it only stops at the big or main stations, the conditions n facilities are better and of course more expensive.
***** The normal one would run at 80kph. While the express would do 90-100kph. A special express (Which was actually a second handed British Sprinter) would run at 120kph (Most Thai Engineer would only run them at 110kph at best because they fear that they would rip the rail apart).
Whichever transport mode gets the most investment tends to become the dominant way to get about because it is easier: rail will develop more in Thailand if/when the government invests there instead of roads.
Hello, great video. Superbe !!!!! Merci beaucoup pour votre vidéo.
Thanks a lot for your video.
Best regards.
very nice,i watched the whole video.....
Thank you,
Looks to be some infrastructure work going on, new track being laid.
eveni had no idea that we can go by train from pattaya to bangkok,, thanx for info...
@rpl1
well, it´s meter gauge, old rolling stock, an old diesel locomotive and many stops, especially in the Bangkok outskirts.
bangkok - pattaya ordinary train 283 (6.55 -10.34) pattaya to bangkok ordinary train 284 (14.24-18.25) available only monday - friday , On weekend available only tourist train
nice video! do you got more Thailand videos?
nice video!
The loco I think was built by Alsthom in France. Not all that old, built in the 1970s and 80s.
Where is the station in Pattaya? And Bangkok? I'd like to do this...looks like an adventure!
Thanks
Thank you
Please think nothing of it. Train's old enough to be your grandmother. We'd planned to creating New Train Project in 2011-2020 many way. Anything you can tell us (Thais) would be helpful. Thailand's poor, need help form everybody. Thank you, (sorry, My English language not very strong. My native language is Thai. )
+นาย สุวิทย์ : Mai Pen rai na kap.. 55555 .. Never Feel Shy to speak and write in English. My thai is very bad but still i speak with thai people to improve it. 5555

It has improved a lot and is a NICE trip Catch it often from BKK just to enjoy some relax from the toll ways we live near Chom Buri city in natural park new sprinter train a/con is also on that line now . Nothing wrong with your English cheers from Australia & Thailand
Please wait just a little longer high speed rail road are about to construction, it's all new. first line to pattaya finish in2-3 year, with speed 160 km/h. Second the north line finish in5-6 years with speed 350 km/h
Thai's railway system is very old more than a century but there's nothing improve from the past. However, thailand must have a new and better railway system now.
Thanks for sharing)) Today I will go
@NThusiast Nice video. You've made a mundane journey look interesting but of course it's exotic Thailand. A ride from Brighton to London is less interesting to watch. Please may I ask what camera and editing software you used?
Hello guys Me and my friend planing to go to Bangkok to pattaya by train in Next july. So please tell me how to catch a train to Pattaya from Bangkok Swarnaboomi air port? and usually train dept times to pattaya. Thank you.
Thanura don't think it is worth it unless you want the adventure. From Suvarnaboomi there are two bus companies that run to Pattaya all day long. 134 baht I think for the cheaper one (Not Bell Bus travel). Air conditioned and no problem for a 90 minute ride to Pattaya. To catch this train you have to go across part of Bangkok away from the airport to the train station.
100 km takes 3 hours to ride by train? Plus the 40 minutes delay. So the avarage speed is less than 30 km/h. Wow!
thanks!
but the train only runs from monday to friday, not on weekends!
sorry to say i never been to thailand ,,am from england uk,now living in the philippines for 10years ,married to wonderful lady,,we always talk about going to thailand and vietnam,,but worried about this and that,( is it safe,,etc ) i like to thank you for u wonderful video,,,thank you very much for the post,, i take it ,its 3 hours from bangkok to pattaya???? we love to go there for a holiday,,,thank you for reading this ,god bless john and lisa from negros oriental,phils
Very nice
Alsthom ad24c is vary old locomotive of thailand railway
Highly informative video. Thanks a lot. But why this option is not popular among tourists. Nobody tells that there is any railway station in Pattaya. Next time we will definitly try this option.
From this year it's free for all Thai citizen and 31. For all others
i had visit to pattaya more than 25 times but i do not know that there is train from pattaya to bangkok. its amazing. next time i will take this train. but how for the station from pattaya city
whish it also showed something about where you buy tickets n stuff
oh is it just 1 usd ? oh so cheap . I think it is cheaper than Vietnam
@darkyoda
yes, that´s right.
German engineers for insnce helped building the Thai railways in the 1930s. The turnout lanterns/signals for instance are 100% the same as in Germany.
@trevcat007
that´s mo "music" as such. I have created it with the synthesizing function of my editing software.
Does the train stop at Rangsit rail station?
At 8:08 the sign says free train ride for citizens!
that railway need to upgrade--high speed electric trains, air conditioned and cushy seat, first class and second class only, 5 coaches, snack/bar/grill car, 3 sleeper cars. Tracks would be elevated and underground and at grade in the country and speed at 90 mph. Would reduce travel times.
I love the music! Who is the artist?
What is the train timing from pattaya to bangkok
Wonderful Toilet 555
so many good things about getting the train, sure it's cheap but also slow so it will take you 3 hours too get there. but I see so much of the country side that you not normally see and all the little villages.. what make me laugh is the way they leave the doors open so people can stand at them and smoke lol. also done the train too hau hin aswell which was same time. the only downside is the seats are hard so be prepared for a numb ass
@gedebage
thanks!
I have made that trip as well. A video of it is also online on my channel.
Current state rail train can't develope any further becuase highways road it faster and better from bangkok to chiangmai if I drive my own car it's only take 6-7 hours while the train take 14 hours .and they own a hugh debt becuase nobody use train anymore
you will forgive me if i take the bus.lol
Less than a € ?
คุณ ชอบ รถไฟไทย เหรอครับ ..^^
You really get around don't you lol
คลาสสิคกะทั่งส้วม !!!
How fast was the train?
I think highest speed 90 km/hrs average 60 km/hrs
traintravel inthai รฝ่
wow $1 USD for a 3hr ride, you cant go anywhere here in usa for $1 usd lol
@rpl1 Still - 1USD.
?
How long ago this VDO,10,20 years ago? This train is also for a third class of human. For a Thais citizen are free,even free no one wanted. Normaly most a Thais people choosed to travel by buses or airplane instead. This guy was looking Thailand in the negatived way. Where he was saw it just small amount of the human living near by the railway not even 2% out of 100%. I not khow who are thinking about Thailand is very poor country in their brains? But I am not sure that Thailand will be very poor country because I khow one thing the people living in this country 70% out of 100% they are has got their own land and houses maybe more than the people all around the world are can have really. However stranged enough in 2002 some train in England was also looked similarly like this one. This year is 2016. Thailand is now completely get better and better go faster more than befor because now this country have a good government that ever has from centenarian. I hope in 5 years time this country will become more faster an economy in South East Asia. Mr Phayut and his government they are working very well to sort out all the proplem in the past including to this railway trains subject.
Amazing Thailand
Very nice
