Im Basque French and our male voice choir are very similar...Indeed my Grandad asked for Myfanwy to be be sang at his funeral..be assured everyone cried..its a song that breaks your heart but beautiful in the same moment. I'm 16 now and when my time arrives, this song will be sung...Celt Welsh and France Basque are very similar...Love to brother and sisters there from Arturo

@@jamiejenkins9096 It was sung at Grandad funeral along with Basque melodies. My Grandad went to Wales once and could talk to people it's very strange. If you are Welsh then I feel you are my brother, maybe the same tribe from a distance. Listen to Basque songs and you will feel it in your hert. Goodnight Jamie, I'm going to the bed

A Cornish Male Voice Choir sang this song at our wedding back in 1968. We got married on a very tight budget and shared our reception room with them. Out of the blue they asked us if we would like them to sing for us. We are so glad we accepted! This song is so beautiful. My wife and I are still together. This song is very special to us.

I have just listened to this wonderful song. I left Wales nearly sixty years ago but the memories came flooding back. I am alone now mam and dad passed away some time ago and my two sisters departed last year. This song although sad says so much about love between two people and can lift the spirit.

Today, I've been reading about what my ancestors ate. I've read about Scottish yesterday, & Scandinavian and Welsh today. I saw Myfanwy and looked it up on youtube. I listened, read the lyrics. Truly a tear came and slid down my face. Beautiful, inspiring song. Married people should listen to this and remember they love their spouse. I'm gonna show my wife more affection. Thank you to the author of the poem.

I first heard this at a friends funeral in Wales, It tells how a woman (Myfanwy), onced wooed her lover with her sweet words, but then for some reason she fell out of love with him, and her eyes were dark and filled with anger, but he's still was very much in love with her. He wishes her well and that the sun shine on her all her life. She has obviously died, and he asks for her hand one last time before he bids her a final Farewell. It's very moving the words are almost haunting and you don't need to speak Welsh to appreciate the beautiful love song, performed by an amazing Neath Welsh Male Voice Choir. Thank you for this, and I will forever have memories of this at my friends' funeral.

My dad was a member of the Pontarddulais Male Voice Choir. He always joked that he would want this played at his funeral and he got his wish when many of them attended and they sang it at the service at my Mum's request. That was 40 years ago. I still can't listen to it without crying.

Something very beautiful about Scottish and Welsh music.

@@Loverboy19691 Yep......in Scotland it's pipe music which "does it" for me, England it's a top notch brass band, and from Wales it's singing like this. ALL Welsh folk seem to be able to sing and i'm English and cannot sing a single note in tune!! Myfanwy is something pretty special......no idea exactly what but every time i hear it it tugs like fury at the heart and i FEEL it in my soul.

There are three verses to the poem, 'Myfanwy'. When all are read, it tells a story of a young man who falls in love with a girl called Myfanwy. She also loves him but only tentatively, promising herself to him. She falls out of love, he knows not why, leaving him heartbroken. He wishes her the best & along life but not wanting her hand in marriage, if he is not in her heart, he only wants to hold her hand once more, to say farewell. She played with his heart & left it broken.

I am a singer in a big choir here in Zagreb, Croatia, I'll aks our maestro to insert this song in our repertoir, although we are mixed with ladies. I was born and I raised in Split, Dalmatia. I used to sing in typical Dalmatian singing groups (up to 8 people), and this music is very close to my heart. There is some similarity, I would say. Please try to enter "Pismo moja klapa Lucica" and you will hear why.

I may not be Welsh but every time I hear myfanwy or the Welsh national anthem I get a lump in my throat and goose bumps down my arms . Nothing in my mind can beat a Welsh male voice choir . Please don't let the tradition dye out .

If there is one piece of music I bring to mind when I think of my cousin & her husband in mid-Wales, at this difficult time, it is this. And only a Welsh male voice choir singing it! Stay Safe, remember: hands - face - space!

I first heard this when i was 11 and 52vyears later it still brings me to tears .i was privileged to live in wales for 2 years and heard it sung in a choir omg that memory will stick with me forever! I even named my youngest after this song . I too want this sung at my funeral and hopefully my brother in law will be there to hear it as a welshman himself . Wales will always have a sift spot in my heart even my middle child was born in abergavenny..

Yes sure! I have been away from the "land of my father's" for forty years and never really and truly missed it until recently! As you all say this is a wonderful rendering and so typical of the 'green hills of home' (Tom J). Thanks a lot - my Thai wife also enjoys it and even plays the video more than me. Sadly we have no children to share but anyway ....... thanks again to all (Gwyn in Bangkok)

Both my Nain and Taid had this song played at their funerals. Sad to me its a funeral song. My Taid to sing in a male voice choir in Caenarfon, used to send shivers down my spine when we heard them sing xx

I loved this beautiful song ever since I heard it in the movie "How Green Was My Valley." I never knew what the song was about, but every time I heard it and watched that movie I would cry buckets. Thank-you for this video; now I'll go back to getting all weepy again.
