This is a great video. Thank you for showing this. I have two of these 2005's and this is a huge deal as they are both long over due for plugs. This video on Spark plugs is another reason to do some things yourself. Or at least be there to see them doing this replacement or show you the plugs for goodness sake. Sorry to be so untrusting but it would be really easy to change out only the front spark plugs and charge for the whole thing this fine gentleman showed us. You went at a perfect pace, had great tips, showed that it is not difficult and it felt like a patient friend showing me how. Thank you again! FYI to any other Gen 1 Highlander owners. Don't just pay for your AC to be replaced if you are having issues with it as the Control Module is a common problem that you can have repaired for cheap if it is the issue. Both my Limited and Base 2005s had issues with intermittent temp and fan control and it was the modules (repair service on EBay) that just needed simple removal and mail in. The two, Limited and Base are slightly different even though they are the same year and both began to fail so, yeah, it's common. $49 and $75 module repairs not $2,300 AC "replacement" by some shop. So easy to remove and it worked on the Limited I did nearly a year ago. The other is literally being repaired now as the Base Model kept blowing hot air then cold then hot then cold....

This is on my list... Talk about saving money. Got a nice 2001 hilander Needs air flow sensor the 2 oil sensors or solenoids Then spark plugs and a fuel clean out or flush...guess how much dealership wants... $2,500 The three sensors installed is $1,500 or so....I ordered parts for about $200 never done it before but watched a lot of videos...and learned difference of air fuel ratio sensor and oxygen sensor 😮 Those should be easier than the plugs. Thank you for the videos and saving me lots of $ 😊 Wish 🤞 me luck

Great video. Watching this I was able to do this on our 04 Highlander and it wasn’t hard to do at all. Thank you! I went ahead and replaced the ignition coils as well. It has 214k and as far as I could tell both the plugs and coils were original. Or if they had been replaced we didn’t do it because we bought it with 80k. Amazingly the car still ran great but I didn’t want to have to go back in and change the coils later.
Thanks for the video. I’m working on my Highlander now. But how did you take out the last two bolts. I only managed to loosen one of them, and can not take out the last one, on the right. It’s so frustrating. I can feel it, but can’t loosen it with any socket or wrench.
@ivicbrand sorry buddy I wouldn t know, I’m not a mechanic , but a back yard mechanic stuff I put out here is stuff I’m learning myself, if it works for me then I’ll put it out there to help some one avoid spending money, I had a problem like that before , kinda similar but what I did is reset the computer with. My OBD, and it worked for me, I’m not saying it would for you but hope it helps.
One statement concerns me: you said don’t disconnect the throttle body electrical plug, or you’ll have to reset the computer. I believe I disconnected it. What happens to the engine starting or running if it was disconnected?
Michael didn’t disconnected negative wire from maine battery If you disconnected negative wire from maine battery’s than it doesn’t matter if you disconnected from the throttle body electrical plug
Hi thank you for watching video, regarding disconnecting the throttle body mechanism , I disconnected it one time and when I put everything back my Highlander. Didn’t run the same, it ran at a real high speed, I couldn’t figure out how to re set it so I took it to a friend of mine that worked at Toyota as a mechanic, and he re set computer for me, and said that cause of car runing on a high speed was do to me disconecting it, I believed him so I thought I would pass that on, hopefully it helps someone.
I've watched a lot of videos so the easy 3 up front are 2, 4, and 6 The hard 3 are 1, 3 and 5 I know this because my air flow ratio sensor needs to be replaced it's on right side kinda near but lower than plugs and the code is showing 2,4 & 6 misfires.
Hi, yah I actually did a diy on that when I broke it. I cut a piece of the tube that you get with a WD-40 spray, cut about an inch off it and glued it on. Just so you know, there’s different sizes of tubes that come from those cans so you have to find the one that fits. Or find another at an auto store or car junk yard. Worked out for me. I hope it helps you.
@@rprojects4553 I read this and laughed to myself. I told my sister what you said and she laughed too. 😀 And then we went hunting for tubes. I found one inside a spray bottle and she drilled out the broken bit of the air box. We're back in business! Thank you for helping us.

Yes it is , you just halfto take your time with an open hand wrench, wrachet type or Manuel one, also use a small mirror to see where bolt is.

My Highlander 2005 has RPM of 2 on idle. It goes back to 1 on drive.

It might not start, just might crank. Has to be re set,

You have your cylinders labeled wrong. 6=1 5=2 4=3. I don't know what the rears are.
