Love these colours! Lupine is toxic so probably good ventilation is especially important for this dye project. Love the results from one of my favourite wildflowers!
Oh no! Good point - good ventilation and separate dyeing gear are two super important components for any dyeing. Thanks for the warning! Will add it to the description.
Good question but I do not believe so - it’s the pH sensitive anthrocyanin group that gives the colours but if you play around with the pH (say with vinegar and washing soda) more you might be able to get a pink. I should say that I did do a light fastness test after this video and the colour really faded so it’s not a very stable dyer but it is fun to play with!
Good question - I’m only four weeks in so far but colours are holding up very nicely (I.e., I have test strands taped in a full sun window). I’m doing but will take another 4-8 weeks to complete. Stay tuned.
I have both purple lupine like you used, but also pink lupine in my yard. Do you have any idea if the pink would give color? I can't wait until they bloom again to experiment.
So I have played around with different lupine petal colours. It really seems like like the deep purple holds the most blue/turquoise potential. I didn’t get much from the pink but you could always double up the ratios and just add more blossoms. It’s really fun to dye with lupine. I had an absolute blast with it this summer. So glad you’ll be busy doing the same next summer season. Let me know how it goes! 💕

You too! :D
love your videos
Aww, thank you!!! 💕
Looks like I will be adding Lupine to my flower bed next year. Does pink lupin give a pink color?

How washfast is dyeing with lupin?
