this song is in the Beatles second movie, Help.... it is such a beautiful, serious song and I love the flute... in the movie there are humorous little bits when it is playing and I bet you would enjoy it if you can find it but all the clips on youtube I have seen are messed up... you might have to watch the whole movie!

They were all under 25 when this album came out. Think of this for a second… a few months later at the end of 1965 they released the groundbreaking album Rubber Soul. By the time The Beatles broke up, none of them had reach the age of 30 yet. That’s crazy. This is was John doing a folk style song because they had been listening to a lot of Bob Dylan at the time.
Awww that was such a sad thing. I can't imagine how difficult it must have been for him at that time, with people staring at him everywhere and telling him to hide his love away. I tell you...The Beatles are it for me because their songs though short always always tell stories.

Every time I hear this I see in my mind their scene in their 2nd movie "HELP!" where they sing this with John strumming his guitar in a chair,, George playing his guitar sitting next to the female lead in the movie whose name is "Ahme" on the couch, RIngo sitting in John's sunken bed (in the floor) playing tambourine, Paul standing by the bookcase playing his bass and winking at Ahme (they are all trying to impress her) , OH and their gardener sitting on the grass rug by Ringo's bed, playing the flute at the end. Cimdy, you HAVE to watch their movie to see them performing this song in the movie, along with "You're Gonna Lose That Girl," "I Need You," "The Night Before," "Ticket to Ride," and of course "HELP!" He got ripped off and beat up by "rough trade" and couldn't say anything because homosexuality was illegal in England at the time. John was heavily influenced by Bob Dylan at the time. This great song is the result. He even intentionally sang it slightly off-key in places to give it that folksy quality.
What is not commonly known about this song - is John wrote it about Brian Epstein (not a girl) - the Beatle's manager - who was gay - at a time when being a practicing homosexual man in the UK was illegal. Brian had made a few passes at John - John liked Brian but wasn't attracted to him, and did not reciprocate - but equally - caring for Brian was warning him to be more careful - not wanting him to get caught and punished. Brian eventually committed suicide. Tragic. It is not clear if Brian was ever aware this song was actually about him...
