    944's wedge shape + pop up headlights really sells me. It will be one of my favourite car purely by its looks!

    Great Video. I do own a 987.2 Boxster and a 968 and I really agree that they are both so much fun and fantastic cars in their own way. The vintageness and the incredible visibility of the 968 are great and its like a time machine. The Boxster is a very vintage looking modern sportscar (very round design) and I like that now that every car is very edgy and agressive.

    I've got a 89 944 turbo, 987 and a 997s. 944 is my favorite looking car for sure!

    Very comprehensive review Sir. I did enjoy it (and have owned both as you, though not at same time). 944, then 986, and back to a 944 S2. Boxster is a much better performing vehicle, but I just LOVE the look of the 944. I don’t speed, I cruise.

    I'm sold on the 986, the fact they're a little newer plus the flat 6 noises makes it my ideal daily driver.

    Great video, the skater reference is excellent to describe the mid engine boxster dynamics. I love everything Porsche builds.

    Thanks for this video, I have 2000 boxster's 3.2 and a 1991 944S2 cab with 68k miles. But since I let the 944 sit to long, the cam chain tensioner pad came loose and strip the teeth off both cams, so now I'm looking for a complete 3.0 head.

    Sub’d, thanks for the video! I have a 951 and recently sold my 2.5 Boxster to Subaru swap my 914. Definitely miss the Boxster, but the 944 Turbo is a super star everywhere I go.

    I just bought a 1983. I want to see how it does at my summer cabin in the Colorado Rockies. I'm surprised more people don't make Clear Creek County a go to for fun driving experiences. Camouflaged new cars are tested here all the time. My cabin is next to the first of nine hairpins on Berthoud Pass climbing to 12,000 feet. To the east is Squaw Pass which winds down to the 14,200 ft road up to Mount Blue Sky (formerly Mt. Evans). South is Guanella Pass which is closed in the winter and fantastically maintained for summer drives. They have a hill climb race there annually. Dirt trails like Oh My Gawd and Jones Pass to name a couple. And ice races on Lake Georgetown in the winter. Beer, music, zipline, rafting and cars and coffee in Evergreen on Saturdays. This is where you take old, wore out Jags Porsches and Bimmers for one last glory tour. Curious to see how the 944 does this spring.

    Great video, nice to see you are local to PIR. Your S2 is fantastic and I was able to learn more about IMS differences. So thanks. I'm surprised I haven't seen you out on the backroads playing around. This past weekend, I was cruising up and around the Washougal river road area in my 928.

      Thanks Mike! We are almost always out and about, but at events. Two weeks ago was the Trackcross at ORP and the week prior was an autocross at PIR. I'd love to add a 928 to our collection one day!

    i had both a boxter s and 944 2.5 n/a love both but 1 had to go .. the boxter s a far superior car BUT the 944 was a far superior drivers car with no t/c abs less power but the way it handles for a car 15 years older is amazing .. not to forget the 944 2.5 had a 0-60mph of 8 seconds compared to the boxter s 5.8 seconds and the boxter was a 3.2 with 260hp compared to the 944 160hp in the uk we have to take these stats into account ... love both cars but in my opinion the 944 is the better car ..

    I can get 2 sets of golf clubs into my 944. That's a requirement for me.
    I can also easily work on my 944 engine. Everything is so accessible.

    • @PlaysWithCars
      @PlaysWithCars  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 944 is much easier to work on, especially without a lift.

    I like your analogy late in the video about how the cars behaves due how a figure skater rotation speeds changes based on arm position mass being held close to the body vs away. That's 100% correct. However, please keep this explanation in mind when you initially said that the 944 was more squirrelly because the engine is in front and the trans is in back (early in the video)

    • @PlaysWithCars
      @PlaysWithCars  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good thought. More squirrely in this case means that when the car gets out of line, the 944 spins easier and "harder" because of where the weight is. It's a lot easier to keep the dancing of the 986 in check because the central weight allows you to rotate back quickly. In the 944 you are fighting that weight momentum.

    I had a 986 and 996.. Wouldn't have a Porsche again, too many engine issues for me. (Yes I had an IMS failure on the 996 with a dual row bearing). Then switched to Alfa Romeo and had even more issues before going to Audi. Much better ❤❤

    Single-DIN PCCM is available for the 944. It has everything the Boxster one does except for the larger screen. And the "tiny" screen is about the same size as the original iPhone.

    • @PlaysWithCars

      Indeed! The S2 is the secret sauce of Porsche's. Same drivetrain as the 968.

    • @nova-oy4qy
      @nova-oy4qy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PlaysWithCars I think you meant to say it has the same displacement. However, beyond the displacement the 968 engine and manual transmission are different from the 944s2.

    • @PlaysWithCars
      @PlaysWithCars  ปีที่แล้ว

      @user-jz1xz5ik7u the 968 transmission is different (6-speed instead of 5) but no, the engines really aren't. There's some minor sensor differences, but they are the same motor (block, crank, rods and pistons, head, etc).

    • @nova-oy4qy
      @nova-oy4qy ปีที่แล้ว

      You might want to double check that.

    • @PlaysWithCars
      @PlaysWithCars  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nova-oy4qy positive. The 968 added a variable intake cam phaser to the front of the head. That's it engine wise.

    Which one is more comfortable for daily and road noise?

    • @PlaysWithCars
      @PlaysWithCars  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question! The 944 is much noisier than the Boxster with the top up. There's less insulation, thinner glass, more engine noise (plus you hear the engine in front, the torque tube next to you, and the gearbox whine behind).

    Too much hedging and a kind of misleading statement about the 944 being "more competitive" in racing because of its class. True, but the glaring omission is that the Boxster is going to be several seconds a lap faster. And same thing in the canyons--the newer car will walk the 944.

    • @nova-oy4qy
      @nova-oy4qy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      when this become a comparison of lap times?

    • @PlaysWithCars
      @PlaysWithCars  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the 944 and the Boxster. An S2 will walk a 2.5 base Boxster all day, and so will a well sorted 951. The 944's are classed more competitively against their peers in both PCA and SCCA. The 986 is pretty much always lumped in with the 987, and the 987 absolutely trounces the 986 on track trim for trim. So, if being competitive is more important than raw lap times, the 944 is a better pick.
