Clauses
A clause has both a subject and a predicate. There are two types of clauses.
Independent Clause - An independent clause can stand alone as a sentence. Here is an example: We walk to school. This sentence expresses a complete thought and can stand alone.
Dependent Clause - A dependent clause cannot stand alone as a sentence. Here is an example: when the cake is done baking This clause does not express a complete thought and cannot stand alone. It may also be called a subordinate clause.

The thing is make me so confused That why sometimes use comma and coordinating conjunction and other use only comma , and both cases use the comma to separate independent clauses? Please one tell me why ,,,,
- I think we will use comma when dependent clause comes. For instance: While i was watching TV, mom was cooking supper.
- We don't need comma in independent clause. I was watching TV.
- About the coordinating conjunction there is FANBOYS which is use comma before the conjunction. For instance: Mrs. Smith is a pilot, but she is soon retiring.
- FANBOYS= for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so
+sam anderson just memorized those subordinating conjunction or subordinators for dependent clauses :)
