I remember that having dash be on the bumper instead of a face button made it easier. It let me keep my right hand on the right stick to keep firing at the boss while still being able to dash away in an instant. Also, charge shots are nearly always the wrong move. Rapid shots have comparable DPS, you're less likely to miss (just because you're firing so many), and you can keep hitting as you dodge and dash around the stage. Just fire towards the boss and you'll be good.
