Elia you are the best teacher on youtube. You have de mystified the Scraper topic for me .Your explanations are so deep and accurate . Good job .One extra tip is to fit a leather cover on the scraper top ,because scrapers can cut your fingers without you realising . They can be very sneaky .
I don’t know if it’s the way my brain works, but for some reason this is by far the best video I’ve seen on sharpening scrapers. Thank you Elia for giving scraper sharpening and its use a logical real world flow.
I must admit I usually give much more credit to the old folks, as I imagine they starterd working before all this modernization of the woodworking trade. But man, this is one of the best woodworking videos I have ever seen! You said what to do, why, and showed the results! I'm on my way to round up the edge of an old file and put my scraper out of the chest! Thank you very much for sharing this with us, you just got a big fan from Brazil!

Thanks for this. I've been unsatisfied with the results I've gotten sharpening mine and going back rewatch the videos of several other well-respected TH-camrs hasn't helped. I see several things to try to do differently that might make a difference.

Thanks for an eductive video, first I seen so far that inkludes scraping technics for soft woods like pine with is mostly what I'm working with. I'm sad that I didn't see this with your file safe side technich before since I just ordered my burnishing tool because I didn't get a good result(using screw driver technic). So far I used the scraper for removing paint but now I have new hopes, gona try it as soon as I get home, working in Norway and living in Sweeden my tool time is limited. Thanks again.
That was great.. I'm not getting sawdust with my card scraper anymore! I'm a big fan of Elia since I saw him on Roy's show. Definitely going to take one of his classes one of these days.

The only scraper I have ever used was a piece broken of glass my 5th grade wood shop teacher showed me how to do it. I might have to get me a card scraper now.
I just turned 70 and when I was about 8, an old neighbor used to teach me shop stuff. He used the old glass technique to smooth pieces of apple wood from old trees that he used to make chairs out of. Broken pieces of window glass worked good on round and curved surfaces. You could usually find a good piece for just about any surface.

You can harden your screwdriver easy. Heat it up glowing red and quench it in oil.
+cocoonbreach sorry for replying such a old post, but you can harden it only if it has enough carbon, else it wont improve much.
