Nice to see Uriah Heep on the list. They were number four behind Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath back in the day. Their career has been long and they are still around. They have often been a band that "critics" don't agree with and doesn't make most of lists like this while bands like Nirvana, The Eagles and The New York Dolls always does. Which make me think.. Have those critics even heard Uriah Heep? Know their place in history as one of the primary bands in the 1970's hardrock scene? Know they actually exist? Larry likes Black Sabbath and Motörhead but not Judas Priest? I would suggest listening to their first four albums if you haven't. Their latest material is more "Metallica" and their most famous material is perhaps more "commerical". Their earlier stuff is darker and more progressive. In my early 20's I could put my cassette of that album in and push play and never have to push fast forward. I've seen them twice in concert and the 2nd time I list as one of the funnest shows I've been to. It was a small outdoors venue. It was raining and miserable but everyone felt like they were at a party with The Crue. Nikki Sixx threw his bass down and jumped off the stage and got in a fight with some guy. Tommy Lee had just gotten out of jail and wanted to see some....let's say toplessness and most of the women complied. My personal list of my top 10 favorite all time: (as a 24 year old) 1. The Beatles 2. Radiohead (I feel like they should have been on the list right? Am I crazy)? 3. System of a Down (they have 5 albums and they all range from great to incredible). 4. My Chemical Romance 5. Pink Floyd 6. Nirvana 7. Led Zeppelin 8. Rush 9. The Rolling Stones 10. The Cure 11. Simon and Garfunkel 12. The Strokes 13. Black Sabbath 14. Tool 15. Deftones What do you think of my list as a younger listener/musician?
While I don't necessarily think that the Beatles deserve to be number one I admit that number six seems a bit low. These lists are all subjective though. The only definitive list is the one that we create.
My Top 5 List: 1-Metallica 2-Rush 3-Iron Maiden 4-Black Sabbath 5-Led Zeppelin just going by the amount of times i listened to a bands albums. Im in my mid 50s
This is the biggest channel on YT ! ....................................... because of its high quality entertainment! And throw that list in the garbage can: - G'n'R before The Who - Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam and Mötley Crue in the top 50, are they sure? - Missed Alice Cooper, BOC, ... - Led Zeppelin before the Beatles: Come on! ----> oh how i love and hate these lists!
Motley Crue fan here. I really enjoy their 80s albums and their 1994 self titled one. I don’t like anything they released after that. As to why I like them: They always had a rawness and an edge to their sound that a majority of the other hair bands didn’t. Plus I absolutely love Mick Mars’s guitar playing.
Roxy Music would be among my favorites. Country Life is a great and heavy Roxy Music album. Great album cover too. A Can-related album cover. Lizard is a great King Crimson album (and those two albums before too). Fun to have a bit of Yes at the end of the Lizard album. I don't have Rainbow but I do have Blackmore's Night. I used to have both Marillion and Fish albums but I never bought them again after I got rid of most of my early music collection. It's a bit funny, most of what I have now is music that I have bought again after having gotten rid of it earlier. I grew up with the Status Quo album Just Supposin where their unusual hit Rock And Roll was. And I remember buying In The Army now on tape. I like them but I would not call them a favorite. But I have a few CDs of them and am happy with that. I got most of Chicago and have always enjoyed them. I got lots of Fleetwood Mac and solo. Future Games is my favorite Fleetwood Mac album. I used to have at least two Nirvana CDs but not anymore and I don't miss them. I would say Genesis is my second favorite band. I think I used to have Bon Jovi but that's also something I don't miss. I got lots of David Bowie but don't listen much to him anymore except for a few songs. Ashes To Ashes is my favorite song by him. Yes it was a bit odd having solo artists in a list of bands. Yes is maybe my 5th favorite band. I might have had Def Leppard in my old collection. The only Who-related I have is a Roger Daltrey solo album. The Beatles is overall my favorite even though I'm really mainly a Wings-fan. I'm almost certain number one isn't one of my favorites. And it almost seem a bit silly to have all those bands higher than The Beatles. Overall that list does not really resonate with my taste but it's still a lot of fun. Lots of my favorites are missing. Judging by that list I could guess number one would be Zappa/Mothers or probably some metal band that I am not able to guess but would know of when I see it. So I'll press play on the video again and see. Yes Led Zeppelin makes sense. I certainly know of them but was not able to see that they were missing, and they do feel consistant among the other bands on the list. If I had had a day or two to think about it I would maybe have been able to guess that it was Led Zeppelin who was missing there on that list, they obviously would belong on that kind of list.
Zeppelin is my favorite. The Beatles were absolutely still # 1 but absolutely Led Zeppelin is 2nd. Queen is really good but Pink Floyd is 3rd Then the Stones from there let em fight it out
The magazine is called LOUDER so I guess The Beatles music isn't LOUD enough. I knew Zepplin would be number #1. The magazine is geared toward hard rock and metal fans , so it shouldn't be surprising there's no folk rock (like The Byrds , The Band , Crosby , Stills , Nash and Young). Or pop groups like The Beach Boys. I would NOT subscribe to LOUDER.(or Rolling Stone for that matter). 💨
Can't like them all! Beatles should have been #1 with Zeppelin being a second and Black Sabbath as third. They are the 3 most influential, in my opinion.
I just don't see how the Stones cannot be no. 2 next to the Beatles. They predate everyone except the latter, kick-started the British blues craze that shape rock and roll for the next three decades, created the genesis for the rock and roll frontman and modern-day touring (The 1969 North American Tour), and had a string of albums from 1966 to 1972 that cemented their place in rock and roll. perimental and innovative. Every garage band from the 1960s copied their look, sound, and snarl (Shadows of Knight, Chocolate Watchband, THEM, Standells, etc.). Also, they don't get enough credit for being experimental. Their forays into psychedelia, music hall, world music, and electronics resulted in some fascinating music. Frank Zappa and Brian Wilson listed Between the Buttons (1967) as one of their all-time favorite albums. Even guys like David Gilmour and Robert Plant talk about the Stones influencing them as young kids.
Journey was a great aor/ arena rock band. If that isn't your thing then at least check out their first three albums which were more in the jazz-rock and prog rock vein. Those are my personal favorites.
Led Zeppelin is my personal favorite band, and if you go by which band had the best line up of musicians in it individually in their own area put together, maybe you could argue Led Zeppelin is the best in that area alone, but they did played themmusic better than most, but they plagiarized alot of music without giving credit to the original writers which is a major no no in music. As rock bands go the Beatles are #1 in every other catigory, they wrote and preformed in amost every gene masterfully, and they were ussuually the first to do so or very close to the tip of the spear innovation production and writing. Their body of work and sales in just 8 years, not to mention the legacy they left to almost ever other band that came after them as a blue print of how to be a rock band is undeniable. Any list that does not have The Beatles #1, disqualifies itself immediately as a genuine list. Edited for typos, think I got them all.
Well, LZ has an unfair advantage in that regard. Page assembled them as a “supergroup.” JPJ was one of the topmost session players in the UK. Plant and Bonham were already making noise in Band of Joy. Page himself was an in-demand session player and member of the Yardbirds. LZ already had a record deal and money before ever recording a single track. They weren't like the previous earlier bands who formed more organically (Beatles, Stones, Who, Kinks, etc.) and had to develop grit.
The list is good but has its flaws. The Who at nr 13, The Rolling Stones at nr 8 and The Beatles at nr 6 is strange. AC/DC is better than those bands??!! What??!! Ok, ok it's just a list. Led Zeppelin is very good but not for first place. Jethro Tull is not on the list. I understand your comments!!
This list just isn't a valid list if the Beatles aren't at the #1 spot. Too many glaring omissions such as the Byrds, Big Star, the Kinks, of course, the Beach Boys. Where's Jethro Tull, Blue Oyster Cult, Sparks, Badfinger etc.? The people who compiled this list were mentally stunted heavy metal fans. By no means definitive!
Free should be on this list, one of the best blues/rock bands ever, maybe also the police instead of Journey, glad to see slade get a mention, super underrated, ignore all the silly outfits and merry Xmas Slade have some awesone tunes and are great song writers.
So where are The Kinks, Boston, Sex Pistols, Rage Against the Machine and the Chili Peppers? No folks, apparently Motley Crue, Journey, Kiss and Def Leppard are better rock bands. Agree with most of your immediate "no's" - those bands don't belong within about 100 miles of that list. My suspicion about those is they just happened to be in the right place at the right time, with the right record company backing. And willing audiences that hadn't enough experience listening to music to be able to tell the difference.
Was surprised to not see The Kinks or Boston but I would not say Sex Pistols, Rage Against the Machine, or Red Hot Chili Peppers deserve to be on there
So according to this list Motley Crue are better than King Crimson. Ok... Laughable as the majority of lists I see. By the way, there can never be a definitive list as music and art in general is subjective. These lists are always good for a good laugh though.
This is not a bad list. Offcourse my list would be different but they try to cover many bases here and still acknowledge many legacy acts. Do I feel that Mötley Crüe is more important than Alice Cooper? Frank Zappa? Emerson Lake and Palmer? Blue Öyster Cult? Dream Theater? Gentle Giant? Scorpions? UFO? Electric Light Orchestra? Dio? Wishbone Ash? Gary Moore? Neil Young? The Band? Dire Straits? Heart? Jethro Tull? Not really.. But they are still very successful and represent a certain style... Money Talks!
Hi Larry, loving the channel content. I am a number one Beatles fan and have been since the early days, but I wouldn't consider them a rock band, for me rock is Ac Dc, zeppelin, stones, purple, Sabbath, Hendrix, cream etc. Why David Bowie is on a rock list I will never understand, and I love Bowie. These lists always make me scratch my head in wonder. Anyway it makes for great viewing and I always enjoy your comments, if I don't always agree with you. 😂
This list is for bands not "rock bands" but I do disagree, as The Beatles were certainly a rock band. Just listen to Helter Skelter, Day Tripper, Ticket To Ride, She Loves You, Come Together, etc... They did a wide range of genres, including rock. Thanks.
I was pleasantly surprised to see Beatles at 6 just because this is like the first list I've ever seen they're not #1 on. But still, 6 is kinda ridiculous, especially below AC/DC. Honestly this was probably the strangest list I've seen. The order was kinda all over the place, which makes it stand out from most lists like it. Solo artists like Dylan, Bowie and Springsteen who arguably shouldn't be here if its just bands but should be way higher than they are if the word "bands" was changed to "artists" (in which case names like Elton John, Billy Joel, Neil Young and Van Morrison would be expected). There were quite a few bands that came out of nowhere that I'd have been shocked to see even if this list had 100. Did I miss the Beach Boys or were they on here? Velvet Underground? Radiohead? Stooges?
You said: OFFICIAL! 🤣🤣 Music, sports, politics, religion! NO ONE WINS THOSE ARGUMENTS! You , and everyone here, has your personal favorites. The Byrds, Beach Boys, those two factions were America's answer to the Beatles! I was born in July of 1991! I have my favorites, and I will not bore you or others here. Your buddy Joey in Cleveland
This list is a total joke!! At least a third of the bands shown here should not be in the top 50!! Those third would however make the top 150. And The Beatles not being No.1 ?? There is NO band that would outrank The Beatles. Only positive comment from me is i'm pleased to see Uriah Heep in the list. Along with Zep, Sabbath & Purple - they were the cornerstone of the hard rock movement in the early 1970s.
The list could have been many variations, except that! Beatles at the top, Stones a lot closer to one. And my personal pick in there somewhere, Kings X
I thought it was a good list. Black Sabbath, AC/DC and Iron Maiden made the top 10 so I’m happy. I like Motley Crue’s first two albums Too Fast for Love and Shout at the Devil.
Queen at #2 is way too generous, maybe #50. Nobody ever says The Pretty Things, BOC or ELO. Never want to hear Nirvana only 3 albums and 1 fairly good one. Foo Fighters might have maybe 3 good songs! Funny the bands from the 60’s are mostly forgotten.
Motley Crue had one good album, Shout at the Devil. This list leaned toward hard rock/heavy metal, kind of a joke list.Jimi Hendrix at 20 is as big of a joke as The Beatles at number 6. As much as I love early Queen they're way too high, their work after a979 was just mediocre.

1. The Beatles
2. Radiohead (I feel like they should have been on the list right? Am I crazy)?
3. System of a Down (they have 5 albums and they all range from great to incredible).
4. My Chemical Romance
5. Pink Floyd
6. Nirvana
7. Led Zeppelin
8. Rush
9. The Rolling Stones
10. The Cure
11. Simon and Garfunkel
12. The Strokes
13. Black Sabbath
14. Tool
15. Deftones
What do you think of my list as a younger listener/musician?
You like the 80's better.
I think you're wrong, but I respect it. I definitely wouldn't have The Strokes up there and no U2 though
I'd put my "favorite" band, Grateful Dead, at 2, The Beatles at 1, Led Zeppelin at 3, and Sparks at 9.
You had a couple of them that I liked.
Very entertaining video Ten Years After is the greatest omission for me.
Hey Larry, can you do a reaction to Top 100 Greatest Artists list by Rolling Stone.I think you would enjoy it!
Yes larry the who should be highter on the list and the kinks should be on the list for sure for me and the beatles way to low ! 👍✌️
While I don't necessarily think that the Beatles deserve to be number one I admit that number six seems a bit low. These lists are all subjective though. The only definitive list is the one that we create.
I guessed that Led Zeppelin would be number 1!. As amazing as they are, I agree that the Beatles should have been number 1 instead 👍xxx.
Black Sabbath #1 Led Zeppelin #2 Beatles #3 ,that would be my ranking. 😎👍🎸
No way Jose The Beatles 1 Zeppelin 2
To you yes but no to me, and my name is not Jose.😎
I agree with most, not all of these bands being on this list but definitely not the order
My top 3 bands didn't make the top 50 !🤓 Jethro Tull , E.L.P . Gentle Giant !😸✌>> Pink Floyd was 4th !🤍🤍🖤🖤
My Top 5 List:
1-Metallica
2-Rush
3-Iron Maiden
4-Black Sabbath
5-Led Zeppelin
just going by the amount of times i listened to a bands albums. Im in my mid 50s
Hi host of high quality entertainment...😻 @3:09 im cracking up!
Every greatest band of all time list should have by default The Beatles at #1. Any list that violates this simple and obvious rule should be invalid 😁
This is the biggest channel on YT ! ....................................... because of its high quality entertainment!
And throw that list in the garbage can:
- G'n'R before The Who
- Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam and Mötley Crue in the top 50, are they sure?
- Missed Alice Cooper, BOC, ...
- Led Zeppelin before the Beatles: Come on!
----> oh how i love and hate these lists!
Motley Crue fan here. I really enjoy their 80s albums and their 1994 self titled one. I don’t like anything they released after that. As to why I like them: They always had a rawness and an edge to their sound that a majority of the other hair bands didn’t. Plus I absolutely love Mick Mars’s guitar playing.
Rush better than The Beatles? I'm out.
The answer to that is Yes, yes they are.
Queen is really good but Pink Floyd is 3rd Then the Stones from there let em fight it out
Led Zeppelin sono i più grandi di tutti i tempi immortali e inarrivabili ❤❤❤
Rolling Stones would be fourth. After that is anybody's guess!
No Scorpions? One of the greatest bands to walk the earth!!! List is 💩
I just don't see how the Stones cannot be no.
1. Beatles 2. Led Zeppelin 3. Rolling Stones
Our lists are kind of somewhat similar, but you have to have Thin Lizzy on it.
#6 is criminal ranking!
A riddle without prizes: who is in sixth place?
The Doors at 34? ESAD.
I got it. Led Zeppelin. 👍
I'd like to know the people who voted for this?
I love Zeppelin, but I think their overrated lately.
Journey was a great aor/ arena rock band. If that isn't your thing then at least check out their first three albums which were more in the jazz-rock and prog rock vein. Those are my personal favorites.
Really??? No to Thin Lizzy??? Expand your horizons, man. I'm soory, they are LEGENDARY!!!
People have different tastes in music. Not everyone is gonna like everything.
Whacko, Ludicrous, Crazy, Inane, Insane, Loopy and eFn NUTZ
Sono un fan dei Mitici e inarrivabili led Zeppelin sono di un altro pianeta ❤❤❤😂
Thin Lizzy has a double live album from the 70's that is one of the best live albums from that era, I suggest that you should check it out.
@@raynaRobichaud absolutely correct. So does Nazareth 80 81.
I have no interest in Thin Lizzy. I have heard their music and they aren't for me.
I can't consider myself a fan of Thin Lizzy, the only album I have of theirs is the live one that I mentioned.😎👍
Was surprised to not see The Kinks or Boston but I would not say Sex Pistols, Rage Against the Machine, or Red Hot Chili Peppers deserve to be on there
I don’t know, Larry, I feel like lately these rankings try to be “cool” by not putting the Beatles at number one.💁🏻♀️
So according to this list Motley Crue are better than King Crimson. Ok... Laughable as the majority of lists I see. By the way, there can never be a definitive list as music and art in general is subjective. These lists are always good for a good laugh though.
Take no notice I say. Not sure who did this list, but awfully bad in my opinion. Beatles number 1, led zeppelin 2, Rolling Stones 3.
The Bay City Rollers😂
The only memorable thing about Bon Jovi is ….. i forgot.
This is not a bad list. Offcourse my list would be different but they try to cover many bases here and still acknowledge many legacy acts.
Do I feel that Mötley Crüe is more important than Alice Cooper? Frank Zappa? Emerson Lake and Palmer? Blue Öyster Cult? Dream Theater? Gentle Giant? Scorpions? UFO? Electric Light Orchestra? Dio? Wishbone Ash? Gary Moore? Neil Young? The Band? Dire Straits? Heart? Jethro Tull? Not really.. But they are still very successful and represent a certain style... Money Talks!
Nickelback came in at number 51...they wish.
Radiohead? Stooges?
I am at a loss here, The Beatles at No 6? They would've been my No 1 with Queen at 2 and Zeppelin at 3.....
The Beatles at number 6 is a joke Larry and Nirvana no thanks this list blows lol
Beatles should by far be number #1..Stupid ass list!!!!!
Also..Where the Hell is ELO. Beach Boys???
Yea ! Ofcoarse Led Zep, Hey, how original,I did guess that one . thanks for your stuff, and I got cats I miss, too
This list is a total joke!!
No Jethro Tull? No Samla Mammas Manna? This list is a joke!
I never take these lists serious.
I don't either... just fun to go through.
@LarryGravesCanadianStudmuffin The list always seem to be off for my taste, but the Beatles #5 or below, come on!!
@9:29 It was infact Curry ;)
Thank you for understanding how much Bon Jovi is not good
The list could have been many variations, except that! Beatles at the top, Stones a lot closer to one. And my personal pick in there somewhere, Kings X
This list is total b.s. . 25?of these bands don’t belong!
Zappa, Carlos, Tull, QSM, Beck ..., ...
I thought it was a good list. Black Sabbath, AC/DC and Iron Maiden made the top 10 so I’m happy. I like Motley Crue’s first two albums Too Fast for Love and Shout at the Devil.
Maybe one of the worst lists you've looked at, lmao
I forget if the Beach Boys were even on the list and I don't want to look again as it's too scary. :D
No Blue Oyster Cult, and Def Leppard up at #14??? Like someone here already said, "...a lot of this list is a joke."
And Foo Fighters at #26!
Foo Fighters have more than 3 good songs
I'm a Motley Crue fan and Pearl Jam sucks. 🤨
The Kinks? Beach Boys?
Where's The Stooges, Velvet Underground, Neil Young & Crazy Horse?
No Little Feat or Steppenwolf. 🙁
The. Beatles are?Top. Zeppelin 2
The Jimi Hendrix Experience or Jimi Hendrix would be in my top 5
Lol Motley Crue? As you said Larry. Nope! One of the most overrated bands of all time. Same with Bon Jovi.
