Hello Kirby, have you investigated Filipino influence in Mexico? I have read there was a lot of cultural exchange between Mexico and Philippines up until Mexico got its independence. The area of Acapulco has a centuries-old Filipino community, some of whom became important figures in Mexican history. Ricardo Pinzon made a list of historical Mexican governors and even one president (Juan Alvarez), who he found out they had Filipino ancestry. Drinking tuba is also common in some parts of Mexico. Small boats are called "pangas". A type of shirt called guayabera in Spanish is believed to come from what Filipinos call barong tagalog. Mango Manila and mango Ataulfo are Mexican-produced mangos but both originate in the Philippines. And one last thing, probably what surprised me the most, cockfighting also reached Mexico (and from there, many other countries) via Philippines.
The Manila-Acapulco Trade was the reason of my Family's existence, my fourth great grandfather was a Half Spanish Half Mexican, son of a Insular Lady and a Mexican Man. He then came in the Philippines as he was shipping loot and merchant products, Married a a Filipina Mestiza and moved from Manila to Samar.

Ikr? I didn't really learn much when they were trying to explain the philippine revolution when i was is 3rd grade. Like what? Y'all expect ME?!! A 7y-old to completely understand that?!! XD
True. In part, they're trying to teach things too early (a lot of topics taught to students from Grade 3-6 are a bit too advanced for their young minds, especially when they use old Spanish or native terms that the students don't know). But also there's a lack of teaching when it comes to Mainland Southeast Asia. At best we get taught about trade with Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, China, and Japan, but not much about Cambodia or Vietnam.

I often visited Cambodia before going to the neighboring countries whenever I am on a long week days break from the office in Bangkok anyway I remembered a Cambodian tour guide told me about the story of the King and Josefa when he'd learned that I am a filipino born. I couldn't forget the tourists priceless reactions who at that time heard our conversation. One of them said " maybe the reason why my eyes keep looking at her" and (laughters broke out) that I noticed from the airport lol😀. Those old couples said they'd thought that I am a European in w/c I didn't know how to react but said they had many filipino friends who looks naturally charismatic and quite beautiful. The gentle nature and a sophistication of a Filipina is regarded as one of the top most beautiful women in the world the Cambodian tour guide said. In Cambodia in the mid 1990's filipino was well accommodated and respected differed when the millennials entered.
Maria Simone: I agree wholeheartedly with your description of the generation of Filipinas before the millennials, although of course, there are a few exceptions. My estranged British husband said: “One day, the world will wake up and see that the Filipinos are running the world!” IF, by miracle that happens, the world will be a kinder, more God-loving, caring and happy world, so long as the corrupt politicians and the “manlokoko” do not join in.
Cambodian see Filipino as "Western High Class People" as their skin color and culture are almost the same. They kinda have a bias toward "white westerner" but a beautiful brown skin filipino act like westerner? Yeah, that a goddess for the Cambodian
Excellent documentary, Datu Kirby. If there was a possibility of chance, that the King of Cambodia and Ms Roxas do get married, it will still be a sad story. Interesting. It's definitely taught nowadays, especially in private schools, but most of it focuses on pre-history (caveman times, especially the remains found in Cagayan and Palawan) along with things like anito, the manunggul jar, the Laguna Copperplate inscription, a brief mention of Baybayin, a few dieties from various ethnic groups, and trade with China and Arabia, plus Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Japan. It's definitely lacking, but it's at least there now. Sadly, a lot of schoolbooks are outdated. Kahit na mas marami nang nasa curriculum, marami paring school na luma ang ginagamit na books. Yung high school nga namin bago lang nag-pandemic nakakuha ng bagong libro eh.

I Feel Bad for this Royal Love-Affair. One more thing that burdens me is this Colonizers that wiped out almost every Culture, Identity and Heritage of the Country they have been.

Watch someone make a YA contemporary retelling!!!
P.S. The fact that Pepita chose to stay Catholic instead of marrying a foreign king is one many female Catholic saints understood all too well. Sad that she died so young.
LMFAO! LOLZ! WE SUFFERED A LOT BECAUSE OF THIS DEMONIC CULT EMPIRE! AND TO THE COLONIAL MENTALITY THESE POWER HUNGRY DEMONS PROGRAMMED THE FILIPINOS.. WTF!
WHO NEEDS WELFARE AND HEALTHCARE IF YOU GOT THE BIBLE AND JESSUS RIGHT?
@@evildisaster8149 and no wonder that the Philippines cannot afford telemedicine because of the traditional beliefs that doesn't make sense anymore, like being a religious person who doesn't rely to doctors because they have a stereotype that they only want money to people like WTF?! Nobody's taking care of you when you grow old or die in an illness. Religion my a**! 🖕
@@aoikanzaki6578 yeah!yeah! yeah! And you can still not trust the doctors nowadays, instead of cure and getting well in hospitals in a very short period of time, you will get shocked by hearing the doctors diagnosis that your disease or illness developed into other form of problem, then will do anything to prolong your stay in hospitals to the point of sucking everything what's your wallet. Why not? Big pharmaceuticals are giving medical scholarships to those who wants to become doctors, and they owed it to these pharma, and pay their debt by administering their new meds that doesn't cure health problems... Everything is about business and money. Healthcare, welfare, religion my as...!🖕....
I have visited Angkor Wat and other temples in Siem Reap and found it quite amazing while imagining what it was like during those ancient times. The bas reliefs on their temples depict a very sensual nature in their culture. Of course Angelina Jolie's Lara Croft:Tomb Raider movie made it more exciting and I did visit Ta Phrom where the iconic root-bound temple was located where they shot some movie scenes. Too bad Norodrom's religion specifically allowing someone many wives became a deterrent to his romance with Pepita, our beautiful filipina. How romantic indeed!
Thank you for this Kirby! Interesting as always! Keep it up po!
Thank for fantastic story !
Thank again ! For making we know he visits we don't know the actual event happen !
kimusta pu, as a kampanpangan ( from Sn .Fdo) that gave me more interest to visit The Kingdom of Cambodia n near by countries

Half pinoy, half Cambodian here😁
Glad you enjoyed it!
My parents are both mix. My father is Cambodian, French, and African-American and in the other hand, my mother is Filipina and Spanish. 💖 But I'm glad to know more history about both countries.
Thanks for sharing! 😊
Another amazing video, thanks for sharing!
Wow. Daghang salamat po for this story. Saktong pang Valentines day po. Hehe
I never heard this story from schools. You research really well!!
Thank you 😊
what i wish you can dig out is one question that most filipinos take for granted, is how this spanish sounding names came about owning big parcel of lands here in the philippines
No, never heard in our philippine pre-colonial history in Philippines because of the issue of Philippine history books in DepEd. Did the OFW knows the first budget in the list na pinondo ng government?
Interesting. It's definitely taught nowadays, especially in private schools, but most of it focuses on pre-history (caveman times, especially the remains found in Cagayan and Palawan) along with things like anito, the manunggul jar, the Laguna Copperplate inscription, a brief mention of Baybayin, a few dieties from various ethnic groups, and trade with China and Arabia, plus Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Japan. It's definitely lacking, but it's at least there now.
Sadly, a lot of schoolbooks are outdated.
imagine a movie with this storyline ♥️
Right!?? 💖💖💖
Ganda sana gawin din to as a theater show parang The King and I (albeit with a sadder ending). Two things, mafi-feature ang role ng La Sulipena sa Philippine history and maipapakita din ang contrast ng rich and poor during the Spanish era kung mailalagay sa kwento ang Cavite mutiny.
IBA ka talaga ~ IDOL.
Maraming salamat Spidey! 😊😊😊

This just gave me a good material for my Filipino Gothic Drama I had been working on setting in 1871 before the Cavite Mutiny. Although it is a Gay Romance with Psychological Drama and Religious themes.
A beautiful love story...
Another great episode, master airbender Aang.
