ESPRIT began in 2012 as the sample-based side-project of electronic
pop artist “George Clanton.” ESPRIT’s first two EP’s “Girls Only” and “Summer Night” are still considered essential listening for any newcomers to the vaporwave genre. In 2014, when vaporwave was still defined by its use of found music and manipulated samples, ESPRIT released his ‘Virtua.zip’ LP composed entirely of original material. In the 3 years since its release, the vaporwave scene at large has followed this trend.
After ‘Virtua.zip,’ the ESPRIT series was put on hold while George Clanton’s eponymous project’s ‘100% Electronica’ LP released in late 2015. Now 3 years later, ESPRIT returns with both the successor to ‘Virtua.zip’ and the sister album to ‘100% Electronica’ together in one piece.
‘200% Electronica’ combines fully original compositions in ESPRIT’s classic vaporwave style with chopped & screwed samples pulled from George Clanton’s own songs, inspired by two years of touring with nothing but a Roland SP 404-SX.

The vaporwave album that transcended vaporwave
I feel like there's a lot of albums that want to do that, but personally this still struck all my favorite things about vaporwave while somehow expanding out with drum and bass and chill wave elements. Nothing else like it imo
cant stop listening to this makes me feel like im playing computer games in my childhood computer room. reminds me i should talk to my family more.
THIS is vaporwave at its zenith. The genre perfected. If you have been into vaporwave the past 5 or 6 years you absolutely understand where im coming from. It might not get better than this album....

Finally checked this album out in 2020 after having it sit in my Watch Later for three years and I have to say from that day on and to this day, this is still the absolute best example of Vaporwave ever produced. IDK what George was thinking, but he was clearly on a completely different level making this. I really wish I could listen to this for the first time again, it left me in tears on the first listen.

Good time to listen to it! I discovered it in the middle of the quarantine of that year. Today I decided to listen to it in its entirety again and I remembered those days of confinement at home.

it's so soothing. it's helped me decompress a lot.
saramations if you haven’t, I’d recommend listening to 100% electronica and the bonus tracks. It’s a lot less like typical vaporwave but it has a tone and aura that can hardly be described and I haven’t found it anywhere else. That album got me through so much stuff

I hope this isn't the last of ESPRIT. I really want to see what George can do with his recent release and see what kind of samples and techniques he can use to make another ESPRIT project.
He has now confirmed that he will return as ESPRIT after he releases his next Clanton album :)

This album mixed with copious amounts of dissociatives and psychedelics has taken me to places beyond any possible existence. My senses float away to completely indescribably unimaginable landscapes. These songs have guided my perception to the profoundly infinite love of the universe. And even though nowhere even close, the album cover is the closest material representation we have of the places it’s taken me. Getting fucked to the point of becoming one with every sound wave of this album is something among millions of other feelings that I can only describe with words as true peace unbound by time. Truly the perfect soundtrack to my infinite dreamscape. Thank you George

Off all of the samey boring vapor wave music I've listened to, I'm pleased to say this one is actually a standout and has revived my love of the genre. Well done. I bet it would sound even better on a C90 cassette, I'm gunna do that.
