My son said he preferred Ninjabread Man to Ape Escape 1 when I was trying to get him into games years ago. Haven’t talked to him since but I hope he’s doing good.
Actually Resident Evil is a clone of the first Alone in the Dark. The Alone in the dark franchise is what greatly inspired the Resident Evil series, most notably on the camera angles and type of gameplay.
I’m so glad someone said something 😂 couldn’t of put it better myself! Alone in the Dark 1992 game strongly influenced the production of Capcom's Resident Evil.
The first Alone the Dark is from 1992, while the first Resident Evil is from 1996, furthermore, the first Alone the Dark was inspired by the Howard Phillips Lovecraft stories and the Cthulhu cycle
What surprises me the most is just how good some of these games could be, I mean if you have the tech an ability to do something like this why not just create something unique.

Basically the company Data Design Interactive were making a prototype for a 3D Zool game, and when it was shown it wasn’t approved, so DDI just used the demo to make a bunch of asset flips. One karting game that was a blatant clone of the original Super Mario Kart was 1994's Wacky Wheels for PC. It was published by Apogee and contained the first Dopefish easter egg, but the gameplay and presentation was a beat-for-beat riff on the 1992 OG Mario Kart. That said, for those of us who didn't own consoles back in the mid 90s, a PC clone of a Nintendo game was very welcome and I played it quite a bit.
