    • @Kisarez
      @Kisarez 4 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      I kinda loved that about them. It really fit their role of deities and made them unique, especially with the fairy typing as guardians. Plus it empowered their team mates, they weren't broken because of abilities like Huge Power or Battle Bond.

    • @x10creeper52
      @x10creeper52 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@Kisarez I agree, it is a pretty cool concept if u ask me!
      However, balance and competitiveness were not the primary goals of those designs and ideas.
      The game designers basically forced every competitive player to play with *at least one tapu* per team.
      I'm not saying that's bad, competitive players actually prefer small pkmn metas because the less variables there are, the more predictable a battle is and the more predictable a battle is, the easier it is to master and to have fun!
      Another important factor to keep in mind is the addition of Z-moves.
      Those moves introduced a *whole new level of impredictability* which made the overall meta *very hard to deal with* , even for the best players in the world.
      One day you could find a normal Tapu Lele, and the next match you could find a Z-Grass Tapu Lele!
      Some coverage moves were used as *surprise nukes* , that's why this tactics were considered toxic game design by many.
      In the end I'm not saying everything's bad.
      Just that things are complex and have many viewpoints.
      I loved the thrilling unpredictability of Sun & Moon's metagame so I'm not complaining. (ive used some crazy builds too yaknow)

      @@x10creeper52 I think things that can ONLY be countered by less than 12 Pokémon is a problem. Type advantage in Gen 1 was busted for Normal and Psychic as they had very, very little counterplay based on the actual typing but this improved as more mons were added and new types introduced (Steel being a new resistance against Normal and also Dark being a direct counter to Psychic in gen 2). The Tapu's have far less counters for terrrains compared to something simple like typings, had there been way more mons outside of the Tapu's able to neutralise or ignore the terrains they wouldn't have been as centralising.

      Tornadus-I(Prankster)
      Tapu Fini
      Metagross
      Marowak(Alolan)
      Raichu
      Riolu(Eviolite)

    Schorching Sands was my favorite new tutor move.
    like come on its awesome; a Ground Type move that can Burn i love moves like that, a move that gives a status effect not of its type.
    the 1st move like this was Scald and we all know how Scald completely changed the Meta and added a whole other aspect of strategy into the Meta.
    Scorching Sands may be 10 less base Power than Scald but it's still a great coverage move and one of the few Special Ground type moves. this move also changed the meta(not as much as Scald mind you but still quite significantly)now pretty much any charizard i see(including when i use charizard)has this move. its actually really great on charizard since its 4x weak to Rock and Scorching Sands is Ground Type allowing it to be 2x super effective and has a 30% chance to burn which can cripple an opposing Rock types Attack which can lead to you surviving more hits from that rock type pokemon's attacks. the only rock type move not effected by this is Power Gem which is impressive. you can pretty much cripple an entire type with a single move. i hope gamefreak creates more unique moves like this in the future. also Scorching Sands just sounds cool.

    • @ramblincapuchin9075
      @ramblincapuchin9075 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Interesting, I might have to look into who gets this move. In practice this move is good for an offensive ice or grass attacker who are the main threats to ground
      However this doesn't really mean much for say a garchomp, who on the one hand ignores grass and water but on the other hand is going to get railed by Ice beam, a special move.
      I suppose if you are trying to burn a water type and bypass its defenses, but to my earlier point, these threats to ground are special by trade and are probably running at least one of that move class

    the best partners for them are:
    koko: regieleki.
    lele: alakazam.
    bulu: whimsicott (only if it has nature power).
    fini: literally anything that you don't want to die to dragon energy, or maybe something with rest.
    yeah, i really don't know what to do with the last 2. rillaboom already has grassy surge and it's hard to find something that draws some sort of significant benefit from misty terrain, unless you want to use rest and then switch in lele on the next turn. just use rillaboom instead of bulu, it makes whimsicott a much easier sell.

    • @glumreaper8885
      @glumreaper8885 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Bulu is usually good with mons that are weak to EQ, especially rock types and steel types, not other grass pokemon
      Whimsicott with terrain pulse is usually better on Koko teams but I don't know why except for being hyper offensive

    • @Bladius_
      @Bladius_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Alakazam is trash. You'd be better with Indeedee or Hatterene.
      Koko is just good when you don't wanna sleep. The Leki/Koko lead is kinda a bait. As cool as it seems; it's too weak to certain leads (read:Lando-T). But don't run Koko, leki is better positioned rn.
      Bulu is good with Metagross to "stop" EQ weakness. Heatran/Ttar/Incineroar too. (but why aren't you just using Rilaboom?)
      Fini is a solo carry, it IS the pain. (But legit, pair it with Galar Moltres + Heal pulse, it's spicy)

    When you and coney were spectating smash bros players there was a match at the end where Mr Crocodile himself King K Rule won against Mr Bogart, Terry.
    It happened in a strange way and you both asked for an answer in the comment section but didn’t specify which comment section so I decided to come here.
    The item terry threw was the beetle. It’s main thing is that it flies forward and grabs the first person it hits, and then it flies up and tries to take them off the screen. If your percent is low enough you can mash out of it, but most players forget to.
    The secret property of the beetle is that if it’s hit by anything it turns around. Usually it’d be hit by another player’s attack so they could defend themselves, but in the Terry vs Croc match at the end there was a rolling barrel that was in the middle of bouncing. When rolling barrels or rolling crates are moving they have a hit box meaning they’ll do damage to anything that comes into contact with them.
    So the beetle hit the barre and turned around, then it grabbed Terry and carried him off the screen which is why King K rule won.

  • @jblen

    In my opinion it's only tapu Koko and Lele that would be broken. Grassy surge bulu would still probably about on par with rillaboom because rilla still gets things like knock off and drum beating, and somehow has similar stats, just a little more speed instead of attack, and a little more hp instead of bulk. Fini also wouldn't be that great because misty explosion kinda sucks. If it didn't hurt your ally maybe it would be useful, but Fini is meant to be tanky, and if you wait until low hp to use it then misty terrain may have ended and you'll also end up doing significant damage to your ally, probably sacrificing them too.

    • @rusty8311
      @rusty8311 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still think Rillaboom would be more useful as well. Especially with fake out. Does tapu bulu at least get play rough this generation? And I agree, people would be happy if tapu fini misty exploded most of the time lol.
      I think the biggest deal would be tapu lele and expanding force at first. Alakazam got usage purely because of expanding force. And you can’t fake out under psychic terrain. However, Assault Vest and dark types would rise to counter this.

    The Tapus, particularly Tapu Lele, will probably still see tons of play. Now, I'm not a competitive battler, nor will I claim I know that much. What I do know, however, is that Lele + SR Calyrex are going to probably crush just about everything in their path.
    Forgive me if any of this is inaccurate, but I ran some calculations on Showdown's damage calculator. Max speed max Sp. Atk Calyrex with Modest nature vs Max speed Max HP Regieleki with a Timid nature. Calyrex was equipped with a Choice Scarf in this simulation, Regieleki has not been equipped with any items. Field condition was Psychic Terrain in doubles, and battle scene was set to doubles.
    Not only did Calyrex outspeed with scarf, but it had a 56.3% chance to OHKO. This is without any benefits from Grim Neigh. Regieleki is not going to be running defensive in most circumstances. Even with its best defensive efforts (Assault Vest + Max Sp. Def + Max HP), it's still a guaranteed 2 hit KO. Now, Regieleki isn't the best test, as it is quite frail. However, I wanted to test Regieleki in particular because of its speed.
    What this means is that there is nothing that can outspeed a Choice Scarf Shadow Calyrex, unless it possesses a Choice Scarf of its own. Psychic Surge, especially when paired with Tapu Lele specifically, is a nightmarish combination, as Sucker Punch - probably the most reliable way to take out S Calyrex, is completely out of the question, and Dark types in general are ill-advised due to Lele's Fairy coverage.
    This all culminates in a combination that will likely be the meta everywhere the two can be used in unison. I won't say that counterplay is nonexistent - as long as the foe can change the terrain for even just a single turn, Calyrex can be hit by Sucker Punch, and if Trick Room can be set, Calyrex then becomes hilariously exploitable. However, as long as Calyrex can get those first few KOs or set up a Nasty Plot, there's not much the enemy can do against Calyrex's rampage.

    Been having a lot of fun using them on my VGC team. They're NASTY in tailwind teams, and Electric Terrain Teams, decent coverage, and the highest Sp. Atk in the game. Regieleki Wishes they were on Xurkitree's Level.

    • @sephikong8323
      @sephikong8323 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, technically, with the way the ability works, Regieleki hits harder with it's electric moves the more multipliers you apply to it
      Let's take a Rising Voltage under Electric terrain with a Specs for both Xurkitree and Regieleki
      It's 70×2 ×1.3 × 1.5 × 1.5 for Xurkitree coming from a 173 SpA with Timid
      Compared to a 70×2 ×1.3 ×1.5 ×1.5×1.5 for Regieleki coming from a 100 SpA with Modest (because Regieleki can run modest whereas Xurkitree it's harder to justify it I think) which ends up with Regieleki beating Xurkitree by a few percent.
      Of course it still has no coverage and it would be incredibly weaker on any other type, but it's just to show how incredibly strong it's ability actually is, and even with Modest or Timid for both for fairness reason, even though it doesn't really happen in practice, Eleki is barely weaker than Xurkitree)
