A 16-year-old girl said, "Being an American is just caring about the good of America. It doesn't mean agreeing with everything the government does, but at the same time you have to agree with the most core values … freedom to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, speech, etc." . A small story About us.

Why isn’t there Mexicans and Canadians in this video? If you look at the world map we live in “North America” which includes Canada the United States and Mexico not just the United States

Colloquially, “American” is understood to mean a citizen of the USA.

Canadian here. After a recent visit to the states (a southern region mind you) and then returning home after, a couple things stuck out. 1. Americans are generally nicer and more respectful to each other than Canadians are - like they all respect the fact that they are Americans and stand behind their flag to view each other equally. 2. Our big cities are quite similar and one could easily think you're in the US when in fact you're not...save for 3. In Canada we have universal health coverage and less gun ownership and crime, leading me to feel a lot safer and more "spoiled" here in Canada. We're the same people, but I think Canadians have access to better social resources than US citizens, and I'm starting to think that we take it for granted and forget that we have to still be neighbourly to each other. Canadians can be snobbish if you don't serve their own interests. I pretty much view Canada like a huge US gated community, ha.

I believe it is the ability to respect yourself, your dreams, your values, and to be able to live amongst and interact with people that are different while still remaining true to who you are. We sacrifice the all sharing the same energy, but also being limited to that energy, for freedom to be what we want and tolerance of others being what they want. It's an experiment, and I can say as a whole its the most interesting country to live in and travel through.

The concert of the US citizenship is only 150 years old, the founding father, did not put it in the constitution, nor the bill of rights. For nearly 100 year if you said that you were an American citizen people would laugh at you.

No, America is not a country or a nation.
Therefore, 'American' is not a nationality or a citizenship.
Furthermore, an American is from the Continent of America.

An American is anyone from any land who has a good heart and no evil in them who wants to be productive and constructive for the betterment for america and all humanity .
Racism can only stem from evil hearts , when a person is good of heart and loves all people they will always see accepted by other good hearted people no matter the colour of there skin.

A American, what is it. If a person was born in Cuba, they are Cubans. In America, being born here, you are automatically the American. Others who immigrated here are really not a American until they become a legal American immigrant by testing and asking to become a American citizen. Pledging allegiance to accept the Constitution and all laws then you are a citizen of the United States. You are a American immigrant and your children that you bear are automatically Americans. Slaves were brought here from many countries , not just one nation or Continent. Some seem to classify another race as Americans and attach that to the children born here. Not the correct decision. You may have a different color , religion, or creed which is a personal difference and that is accepted. Any other attachment to a birth and creed of another nation is not and should not be attached to the word American. I was born here , served this nation due to my obligation to defend it for many reasons that the rest of the people that reside in this great nation so that freedoms shall be enjoyed by all within the laws of this nation. My ancestors are from here and other foreign nations. I do not attach any other nation to my nationality nor should you. Be happy to be here no matter what the reasons. Don't ask for things you are not equally expected to receive. Get in line with the rest of the Americans. Serve this nation with pride and respect.

What makes an American? That’s easy, anyone born in the American continent. Meaning everyone born from the southernmost point in Chile to the northernmost point in Canada. So to all my Brazilian, Costa Rican And Canadian sisters and hermanos we’re all Americans, don’t ever let anyone take that away from you. from a Peruvian, peace and love.

An American is anyone born on the American continent, be it North or South who cares for true freedom, and the rights of the individual. I care just as much for the Mexican child as I do for the Californian, or the one from Peru. However, it is also being able to see that sometimes the rights of the individual can have disastrous affects on the group as a whole, such as allowing a child to purchase a gun without common sense rules in place.
