  • STOCK TRUCK vs FAST 102-WHICH TB IS BETTER FOR BOOST? WHAT THROTTLE BODY SHOULD YOU RUN WHEN YOU ADD A LOW-BUCK, EBAY 4.4L STS CADILLAC BLOWER TO YOUR LS. USING ADAPTERS FROM MACKDADDYPARTS (314) 435-2222, WE INSTALLED THE INTERCOOLED SUPERCHARGER ASSEMBLY ON OUR CAMMED 4.8L LS. WE STARTED WITH THE STOCK 78MM TRUCK THROTTLE BODY, THEN ADDED THE LARGER 102-MM FAST. WE TESTED THESE DIFFERENT THROTTLE BODIES AT TWO POWER LEVELS. WHAT WERE THE GAINS?

Ha you did this test, i went to ebay and saw a brand new one for $419. While I was trying to find macdaddy it sold. Two days later see the same one different seller same exact pictures $1158 bucks.

As a positive displacement blower fanatic, these videos are awesome!
Howeverrrrr. Pulleys! Let's go! It would be a crying shame to do such a comprehensive test on the cadillac M122 bolted to a lowly 4.8 without doing a pulley swap!
A lot of people run the gt500 M122 with a 7.8" lower and a 2.5" blower pulley and make pretty impressive power for such a small blower, however they do have the advantage of DOHC efficiency and the motors love to rev into the 7000+rpm range.

Would love to see some 1 & 3/4" long tube (24") intake individual runners made on the cadillac adapters manifold configuration going up to a 90 mm turbo manifold cap. Long tubes would make up some loss for the turbo's lag coming in at 2800 to 4000. By that time the boost should be rising beyond engine need. For drivability, you know.

I did this test five or 6 years ago on a 3L 6cylinder with a 1.6L positive displacement super charger: removed 2.6inch TB from the 2.6inch mounting point to the twinscrew and fitted a 3.5inch TB to the 2.6inch opening.
I initially lost 15whp as the AFR was effected, got the AFR back to where it was and got back my 15whp plus an extra 17.6whp with no timing change but a slight boost increase of about 0.5psi... just to prove a point that the TB was too small for the application even with the 2.6inch restriction.
I now run a 4inch TB on the same engine with a 2.3L Whipple but modified to 4inch all the way to the twinscrew.

But sure if your goals are to make over 650hp this probably isn't the right blower.

Were you surprised that the shape of the curve changed when you went from naturally aspirated to boost? On the naturally aspirated curve, you have more horsepower than torque, but the boosted curve has more torque than horsepower. Typically, on your other tests, when you add boost to a given combination, the shape of the curves don’t change… Correct? Does that have something to do with the fact that you backed off the timing when you added boost?
